Liberty Island, New York
UNATCO HQ

INCOMING TRANSMISSION... Alex Jacobson -------------------- Heads up, JC. Your brother Paul is on his way to meet you at the dock. The NSF is raiding the island, and shots have been fired. I repeat: find Paul. I will monitor your situation from HQ.

J.C. Jass: Paul! I thought you were in Hong Kong.

Paul Jass: Welcome to the Coalition, JC... I might as well start using your codename. Think I'd miss my brother's first day?

J.C. Jass: Didn't think you'd have a choice. What's going on?

Paul Jass: The NSF -- they hit one of our shipments. A few of them got away, but we trapped the rest in the Statue.

J.C. Jass: What are we waiting for? Looks like a textbook assault.

Paul Jass: The NSF took one of our agents hostage. The bots are holding the perimeter, but my orders are to hold back and send you in alone. I think someone high up wants to see how you handle the situation.

J.C. Jass: All I've got with me is a pistol and an electric prod. I don't mind a test, but UNATCO better issue some hardware.

Paul Jass: Remember that we're police. Stick with the prod. It will stun your opponents or knock them unconscious. A nonlethal takedown is always the most silent way to eliminate resistance. Just in case, though, Manderly wants you to pick an additional weapon: a sniper rifle, a GEP gun, or a minicrossbow.

Never know when I might come up against heavy armor. Give me the GEP gun.

Paul Jass
The GEP gun might be useful. They have a security bot on patrol near the Statue entrance.

J.C. Jass
Great. What's the first move?

Paul Jass
I'm going to give you a map of the island. If you can get to the north dock, a UNATCO informant will give you a key to the Statue doors. He responds to the code-phrase "iron and copper." You could avoid a lot of fighting, though, if you found a back way into the Statue.

J.C. Jass
I'll see how it looks onshore.

Paul Jass
Your primary objective is the makeshift command center the terrorists installed at the top of the Statue, but don't forget about Agent Hermann. We think he's being held on the ground floor.

J.C. Jass
What are my orders when I reach the command center?

Paul Jass
Interrogate the leader. We don't yet know why the terrorists would risk an open assault.

---------------

Primary Goals
• The NSF seem to be directing the attack from the Statue. Get inside and locate the threat.

Secondary Goals
• Meet UNATCO informant Harley Filben at the North Docks. He has a key to the Statue doors.
• One of UNATCO's top agents is being held inside the Statue. Break him out, and he'll back you up against the NSF.

---------------

Corporal Collins
Well, I can certainly see the family resemblance.

J.C. Jass
What's your take on the situation, Corporal?

Corporal Collins
The bots have them bottled up, sir. We'd go right in, if it weren't for the hold-back order.

J.C. Jass
How'd they get one of our agents?

Corporal Collins
Gunther went rogue on us. When the order came, he wouldn't pull back. Now you get to bail him out.

Ghost around and knock out the patrollers with a riot baton. Go around the back of the statue taking them out till you find a set of them together, use tranq rounds from cover until they are unconscious.

It's not like they gave me a choice between the two types. UNATCO issued me four HEDP rockets as well as a GEP gun.

LOW-TECH ROLL = 11 (TARGET 15) SUCCESS

One down...

STEALTH ROLL = 13 (TARGET 14) SUCCESS

LOW-TECH ROLL = 12 (TARGET 15) SUCCESS

ZAP!

Two down... I'm about halfway to the other docks, and the informant's location.

Voices up ahead, from around a corner.

NSF TERRORIST 1
That's the difference right there. Just take a look at him.

NSF TERRORIST 2
Bad?

1
They cut off his arm, replaced half of his face.

2
Hermann, right? He's a good soldier. Killed three of our men.

1
They'd've replaced his whole body if it would've improved performance. If that's how you judge a man -- by performance -- then eventually it's not about people but upgrades, versions, functionality...

2
All I know is we could use a few mechs for ops like this.

1
Soon as we buy into the cult of the machine we're just like them.

2
Rhetoric, always more rhetoric.

Did you forget to loot those guys for theirs stuff? Bet one of them had one of those peachy keen wrist crossbows. And a pistol, Hermann is going to want a weapon when you free him so a spare is required.

These two... I think you can give them a big berth to get by, yeah? The island isn't exactly tight quarters, right?
>>
No. 1013936 ID: 16d082

yeah, pat down the unconscious guards as was said and see if they have anything. you’re probably near a maintenance room to the right of the tower as well, without much guard presence; should be some useful stuff in there.
by the way, did you know that the “cut off his arm, replaced half his face” line is a vestige of Gunther’s original appearance before it was changed? his original design wasn’t modeled to my knowledge, but one can find the 90’s comic book-esque concept art of it on the doodsex wiki.

>Did you forget to loot those guys for their stuff?

Good thinking. UNATCO's approach to outfitting me was sounding a lot like "on-site procurement" anyways.

...

Two milspec pistols, a couple of crypto-radios, five full magazines of 10mm caseless between them. I won't bother taking their armor, or their masks.

Back to the dilemma at hand. The landmarks indicate the maintenance area is right around the corner. The GEP gun is a little in close for this kind of engagement, but sneaking around the sides will be difficult at best and at worst, will compromise me and leave me at a tactical disadvantage.

I'm having second thoughts about firing off a rocket... What else can I do, take them on in a gunfight?

HEAVY WEAPON ROLL = AUTO SUCCESS (TARGET 18+ OUT OF COMBAT)

The terrorist struck by the rocket takes 126 damage from the shaped charge's jet piercing his center of mass, as well as 27 damage from the explosive filler, after 5 is prevented by his body armor. Two incidents of shrapnel damage: 8 (3 prevented) to the groin, 6 (3 prevented, 7 lost due to overdamage) to the left leg and it is mangled.
Terrorist 1's body is destroyed.

The terrorist standing 6 feet away from him takes no blast damage (30 lost due to distance, 5 prevented). Two incidents of shrapnel damage: 11 to the left arm (3 prevented), mangling it; 18 to the neck (9x2 due to hit location), he fails his death check by 2. He collapses, mortally wounded.

I dive for cover and make ready with my sidearm, while the nearest opens fire. He's the priority.

He's able to get off three shots while I brace and take careful aim.

The hostile misses me with his shots. I'm fairly certain I'm hitting on target but he doesn't appear to be stopping... body armor.

As the terrorist starts carefully aiming at my position, I move my aim up a bit and go for the head.

JC shoots, having aimed for 3 seconds with a braced weapon for a +5 to hit. Range penalty is -5, and penalty for the face is -5.

JC hits, doing 28 damage (hit face, bullet went into skull, 7 multiplied by 4). The terrorist drops onto his knees and then forward face down into the grass.

The two in the distance are maybe 80 meters out, and shots are still coming. One's taken cover and is firing, the other one has ducked down behind it.

80m is sensible for a GEP shot, but only if you can get both. We still need that robot down.
