(am lurker, first quest, might go badly)

Wisdom stones. This priest must have graduated. Though, not yet prepared for battle, it would seem.

Three is a lot. Good fortune.

Is there a way you three can converse without involving me? A headache will impede my ability to fight.

Hello world. Hello warrior.

>discard
CAN you discard us? Then we must not be cursed to haunt you.

We must be "Yellow". Were we cracked, as was implied? Result may be: more voices, more insights, differing perspectives, coming and going, fading and appearing. Facets in a cracked and bent mirror, reflections true and twisted, some more, some less.

What strange occurrence.

>Converse without noise
Unknown. The other two stones seem singular. The other two remember. We do not. All is fresh and new.

Good fortune, in a way. Grudges cannot be kept, if never remembered. Keep us. Do not abandon us in some ditch, to lie an unknown age in mud that thickens to sediment and stone around us to ruminate the passing of ages. If the alternative is to be sold, then yes, this too is fine.

I am approached by a large male gethem. He appears to be fit, and is wielding a lumber axe of good quality. It would seem he attempts to defend the village.

The axe looks heavy. He will likely die if he swings poorly.

He is not wearing any protective gear. This is suicide for him. I fail to understand.

ah, we're in the middle of a war then. Everyone says they're horrible but yet nobody can stop starting the damn things. Funny how that be.

As for your opponent and why he's fighting, either he realizes he's dead and has chosen to go down fighting, he's trying to buy time for others to escape by slowing down the enemy, or he's just so full of himself he thinks he can win. Take your pick.

But regardless he's in your way and you have a job to do so follow your training and finish your job, as questioning your career path in the middle of an active war zone just seems like a good why to die. Best save that kind of thinking when you're in the middle of the endless hours of boring down time you have to suffer through between battles that no one ever likes to talk about when they sit around the fire telling war stories.

Hmm, based on what we're playing off of, was "Yellow" supposed to provide curiosity and logic? That, I can do - I feel as though I would have had no issue switching to a new master, even if it made me glum - but I don't speak for the other fragments.

Meanwhile, this village is done for, but even if it's hopeless, it would be fatalistic to not at least try to defend it to the very last. These people have something to live for, after all.

All the same, asking this guy to switch sides is useless at the moment; stay back and wait for an opening as he comes toward you. You have a reach advantage, so thrust as he pulls back to swing, and use the momentum to step inside his "too close to hit" range before he completes the attack. Maybe push him to the ground.

We can question circumstances and assess a long-term plan when we're not in the midst of a battle to the death.

He's fighting for his loved ones, GRANITE. What do you expect him to do? Just die without taking up arms? These villagers don't have protective gear or proper weapons.

You should switch sides. Betray your squad. Rebel against the murderous fascist instead of blindly following orders.
>>

Well, you'll probably kill him, sure, but he has no reason to make it easy for you.

-"yellow is struggling with their memory, red. be respectful."
-"TCH."
-"trel is the name of our...previous bearer, yellow. we should discuss stuff of this nature later, when the situation is less...dire."

Yes. We should.

>"No use in questioning our career path in the middle of a warzone. Stay back and wait for an opening as he comes toward you. You have a reach advantage, so thrust as he pulls back to swing, and use the momentum to step inside his "too close to hit" range before he completes the attack."

Wisdom, from the wisdom stones. Took long enough.

I extend my weapon to force him into distance. He readies his weapon to his left, and begins slowly pacing in that direction. It appears he's looking for the same opening I am.

I test him with a swift jab into his center. He prevents it from hitting his chest, taking a superficial cut to his arm in its stead.

Stupid. He has no practical form of protection against my weapon. No chance of victory.

I jab once again, with more force. He is prepared this time and steps back a short distance. He seems to want me to commit to an aggressive option. I will not.

If he had fought me two-on-one, there may have been-

>"Oh no, look out behind you!"

I take a wide step to my left and readjust my head to cover the sightline behind me.

-"HAHHAHH!"

There are no threats. This distraction was pointless and dangerous for both of us. What do you gain from this? If I die, your own survival chances decrease. Why?

-"BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT! FOR BEING A MURDERER!"

I see. You let your emotions control your actions. You act before thinking.

-"he is correct in this, both of you. now is not the time."

Like him.

He takes a step forward, then backwards again, as if to scare me into making a move.

He would throw his life away, for some pointless sense of justice.

He moves towards me further. Impatient. I impale his chest. He does not collapse. He pulls off of my weapon, oblivious to the fact that he has already died, and attempts to move towards my blind half. In this position, I am somewhat at a disadvantage. Better it than me. The swing threw him off balance and I tackle him to the ground.

Ridiculous.

Before he has any chance to move, I press my foot to his shoulder before stomping on his wrist. He releases his weapon, and I retrieve it.
Failure. He has achieved nothing. But lost everything.

I swing for his head. His skull splits open.
He is dead.

For some sense of pride? Glory? He must have known his actions would not protect anyone.

He had freedom. A purpose. A future. He could have fled, and made some effort to keep them.
I swing again.
Yet he has tossed them away in a battle he knew he could not win. For reasons I can't understand.

There's a decent chance he fought hoping it would delay you enough to let those he cared about flee. Or he may have judged his chances of fleeing successfully to be extremely low and wanted to spend his energy on trying to hurt/kill an attacker and thus make it slightly safer for others in the path of your army.

are you planning on conquering this land or is this just a simple raid? Because if you are conquering this land some people rather die fighting for what they believe in rather than continue to live on their knees. Free will and the ability to have a choice make people do funny things like that from time to time.

We don't seem to be the only one with some "cognitive damage" here, are we?
What a mary party we have here: three wisdom stones with different personalities, one with memory loss, one with anger issues and one that seems to be calm and colected. And then we have a grunt/soldier/raider, also calm and collected, rational, but with some brain damage that makes him have sudden bursts of violence.

This is fun already. Ok, so, new bearer, how should we call you? I'm fully committed to aid you to the best of my abilities.

We just woke up and as far as we know that's how people say hello. We have no idea why people are fighting, we have no idea what is going on in the world right now, nor do we have any idea what of what is odd and what is normal. So far the only thing we really know is keep quite unless asked a question, observe what's going on around us, and once a more complete picture has been built THEN start judging people based on their actions. Can't be snooty if you don't know what to be snooty about after all.

Nobody lives forever, my dude. We're just doing our level best to be impartial. You view him as a murderer that felled our previous master. That is technically true. However, the reality is that we were once worn by a shaman of presumably good character, and now are currently worn by a troubled soldier that has had to do unspeakable things just to survive - we shouldn't assume that the unwellness preceded the slaughters.

In other words, it is what it is, and the sooner we accept that, the better. That's not to say we can't have goals of change to strive for in the future, but throwing a tantrum about the present and antagonizing our current bearer serves nobody.

> Suggestions
Well, if you believe yourself a survivor above all else, and this empire has done its best to try and erase your own identity, then it is Saxma we shall call you.

For that matter, we apologize for distracting you earlier, Saxma. Our mind, in particular, is a bit fragmented at the moment, and that's after one considers the divide between us and the other two stones, so conflicting advice on occasion is to be expected.

This is a strangely specific question. You are trying to find information connected to this, rather than the answer you claim to be seeking.

The answer to this is the same as the last one. The metal have command over the stone, who have command over the wood, who have command over the dirt. My identification distinguishes me as a stone. I am given privileges over others for this reason, due to my success in battle.

Odd. These are not doors, but more like curtains. The village may have lacked access to the materials necessary for hinges or other door mechanisms.

Start by looking up. You know, just in case.
Be careful, there might be someone in here who was unable (or unwilling) to flee. The man you killed might have been defending them.
It's also possible the fire was not started by one of you, because raiders tend to torch the roof of houses, not get inside to burn specific pieces of furniture. If that's the case, they probably wanted to get rid of something before you could get it.
