The phone rings and you jump out of bed. Because this is not a familiar bed you end up hitting your head on the metal head-bars, and lie looking up at the ceiling fan as it spins.

So starts your first day as a crook. You didn't start off in life as a crook, of course. In fact your early life had not been too bad at all. But somewhere along the line, through no fault of your own, life caved in on you like a Chinese coal mine. There's too much of that to talk about in detail, and anyway you don't want to think about it.

Still, things could be worse. At least you've got a bed to wake up in now, for starters, and that's what you just did. The whole room smells of kebab spices and grease, but that's better than the smell of urine out on the streets too. Most importantly is what woke you up. Your handphone. This one's a gift to you from Stony Stan - 'a symbol of progress and further cooperation', in his words - and now it's ringing.

Come on, do something now.

But first, what is your name?

Anyone who seconds any of these options? We'll go by votes on this one.

Also, actions? Phone's still ringing, and the ringtone is 'Making Love out of Nothing at all'. Bloody annoying, it is.

You look. It's Stony Stan. Well, that makes sense; he's really the only one with your phone number. It's still ringing. He's persistent, he is.

If you are not angry at him for something he did at the moment, answer it.

Meanwhile you look around your room. It's as threadbare as a room gets to be. Light is streaming in through the windows.

>>106147

You take the phone and press the button. 'Hello? Stony Stan?'

'Hello, is this Mr. Abercrombie? Where the hell were you? Rise and shine mate. How're you doing in your new den?'

There is a pause, then a deep chuckle. 'That would be nice, wouldn't it? Australia or Norway. Well no you're not. You're here talking to me.'

'Well son, I was just wondering what you're up to and whether you're in the, uh, mood for an assignment.' His tone of voice is friendly enough, but it is also rather clear he would not take no for an answer.

'Clever. Now, it's going to be an easy job. I want you however to come downstairs. If you'd look out your window, you'll see a very nice car parked along this street.'

You look out the window downstairs, and indeed there is a black Lexus downstairs, looking very out of place in this shitty neighbourhood.

'See the car? Come on down and be quick about it. I don't like waiting, and I haven't that much free time.'

He then hangs up.

You rummage through the small pile of clothes you have under your bed for anything presentable.

White T-shirt
Red T-shirt
Tattered Cardigan

Yellow trousers
Tattered jeans

Choices, choices...

Also, you haven't got a fridge, and you haven't got a breakfast bar. There is, however, a loaf of bread you got from the convenience store yesterday with that 50 bucks that Stony Stan gave you.

You put on your white t-shirt and yellow pants. They're comfortable, though you don't really know how good you look since you haven't a mirror.

You think about having breakfast, but then drop the idea and head downstairs quickly. Sure enough, Stony Stan's in the back of the car, accompanied by another shabbily dressed man.

'One minute sixteen seconds, to come down two flights of stairs, Mr. Abercrombie,' he says after the window comes down. 'You need to improve on that timing.'

'Who, this guy? His name's Charles.' Stan gets out of the car on one side, and Charles the other. 'The two of you should get to know each other better, really. Your lives might depend on it later on, who knows?'

'But Abercrombie... do you want me to call you Abercrombie? Shall I just use Abby? What I've got here is a bit of a small-scale job for you.' Charles opens the boot, and you see something long wrapped inside a rug. 'There's a pusher who frequents this part of town, who owes me some money. Monthly payments, to ward off bad luck and poor business. He hasn't paid for three months straight, though, so I'm going to need you to help me... convince him.'

'You'll have to find him first, of course, but I trust you can do that. Once you do...' Charles unwraps the rugs. 'Use these on him. Be creative.'

You look into the boot and take what's inside.

You get a Baseball Bat, a pair of Kitchen Knives, and a Hacksaw.

'Any questions? Or shall I go now?'

Stan goes off, leaving you standing in the street with your weapons. Then you realise there's also an envelope inside the rug.

You tear the envelope open. A small photo of someone falls out. The man looks very much the worse for wear, eyes and face like a junkie. Behind the photo: 'Terry McCall, Objective.'

You think this over. You could probably find someone you know who knows this Terry, given the number of junkie friends you have. But it won't be easy to persuade those thick-headed people...
