311071 No. 311071 ID: fae44d

Fifty years ago the Terrans joined the few civilizations capable of inter-system travel. During that time was a time of relative calm and prosperity. A period that lasted until this day...

[Assuming control of captain]

I am Commander Graves of the Terran ship Flargnar. I am captaining a Light Destroyer in the system NZC742 a frontier system of the Terran government to fight off recent pirate attacks.
This ship has the most advanced weapon system in this area...

and so far we are out here repairing navigation beacons.

But if we're LAWFUL we get the chance to be promoted to HEAVY Terran Destroyer Captain. Maybe even Terran BATTLESHIP Captain. Isn't that worth the short term loot acquisition? Those things' main gun yields are measured in GIGAGENOCIDES.

Well this ship isn't the most armed as most other ships that are active but can still reliably destroy targets of the same size. Hmm where should I start...

There is about 137 personal on this ship. about half of those are actual crew. The other half are a mix of scientists, marines, and service personal.

As a light battleship it has the speed to out run larger slower ships and keep pace with freighters. Its not the fastest thing out there but it can keep up with most things.

Its main gun fires a high energy beam at a target capable of penetrating through a ship of the same class but it takes about thirty seconds to fire again.
There are also various turrets of various sizes scattered throughout the hull which can act as point defense or be used against fighters and other ships but usually fall short against shielded targets.

We also have sensors capable of scanning in a variety of settings. Encryptable short range and long range hyperspace communications. Modest shields and a sizable fuel supply.

Thats just the thing, the pirates steal easily liquidable things like precious raw ores or raw manufacturing materials and sell them back into a legitimate market through illicitly trading them with merchants. The other things they steal are either ships, ship components and weapons, or fuel which they use for themselves.

I'm starting to get a-little hungry I can stay on the bridge and continue to wait or I can go below deck to get something to eat.

We finish the repairs to the beacon and position the ship to the side and facing the jump-gate.

"Is there any way we can somehow reverse the energy buildup in the jump-gate?"
>"There is, but not if you want to explain why you destroyed a 500 million credit jump-gate."
"What do you mean by that?"
>"If we reverse the polarity with this much energy built up, the gate the gate will literally collapse upon itself endangering ships in the immediate area and those coming in transit from the other gate."
"So, is there no way to stop this?"
>"The rate of energy buildup is starting to slow down and-... well this is interesting the sensors shows that the energy is similar to the energy that is discharged when a normal ship comes through except this is much larger."
>"In fact the field of energy is larger then the gate itself, this is interesting."
"Are you telling me that there is a ship trying to get through the gate?"
> "Impossible, There is no gate large enough to accommodate a ship of the size the field suggests it is."
"Then what is it?"
>"I, um have to get back to you on that captain."

!WARNING PIRATE IFFs DETECTED!
What the hell the entire screen just lit up with enemy tags, including my own ship!
>"Captain! someone has somehow changed the IFF's of every ship in the area, we think it might be the pirates, but because of that we have no way to track possible incoming ships!"
"Well fix it crewman!"
>"It will take about 10 minutes to do so captain."
"Just get it done the pirates are probably going to be attacking soon."

dammit if its not one thing its another.
>>
No. 311514 ID: 0d095c

Keep an eye on that gate. Track whatever comes out with VISUALS if you need to. Whatever this is, you cannot let it escape! It's the only interesting thing to happen this entire voyage! Also, this is probably an inside job. Some bugger in the IT department probably fucked with the IFF systems. So yeah, be on the lookout for any traitors attempting to leave.

Well get working on fixing that shit. Might not be ready in time to stop anything going down right now, but hopefully you will get a bearing on where the pirates run after they have done their looting. Then you can start putting the squeze on the merchants trading with them to get better leads.

Oh, and keep an eye on that gate. Just because your tech dude says that whatever is coming through is impossible doesn't mean that it's not possible. It just means that he thinks it's impossible, someone else might have found a way to do the impossible.

I decide to keep the ship pointed towards the jump-gate.

"72213, Are you sure its impossible that it could be a ship?"
>"Yes captain, The ship would had have to enter a gate large enough to accommodate it to come out this end and the possibility that pirates have built a gate of that size for the purpose of using it ounce as a method for a surprise attack is laughable at best."

Go to general quarters. Communicate what's happening to nearby friendlies, or even as a wide broadcast, because obviously the enemy already knows what's going on. Track where the missile came from so you can shoot it.

No. 312256 ID: 35e1a0

report on general broadcast to everyone nearby that nothing is to come NEAR your ship, including the civs. otherwise they will be instant assumed hostile.

also this wouldn't of happened if my idea was implemented. the missile despite it's friendly id would of been designated hostile.
also have your techs be ready to make the gate self destruct if something big DOES start coming through.

Yep, don't turn the ship. Use off-axis weaponry to return fire if it's possible to identify the launcher, otherwise play dead.
>>
No. 312329 ID: 0d095c

The pirates are now the only things using a friendly IFF? This makes things easier. However, we must keep an eye on the gate with the Main Gun. Also, can you send a distress signal? You're probably gonna need back up on this one.

And whose idea was it to make the shields drop if a friendly IFF comes near in combat?! That could easily turn a minor collision into a horrific disaster. If you live, rip Terran high command a new one for hiring such incompetent engineers. And send that distress signal! If you can get 4Chan, you can phone home!
>>
No. 312330 ID: 35e1a0

>>312329
nono, the shield on the missile matched the harmonics of the ships so they passed through without a hitch. think about why a shuttle-craft can go through a shield easy without them dropping and an enemy fighter can't. so even if a friendly comes near the shields stay up.
>>
No. 312331 ID: 0d095c

>>312330
Makes sense. Okay new plan: If we live, invent frequency randomized shields. Also, keep focused on the gate. That missile was supposed to divert us. Tell engineering to keep working on the IFF problem and to fix those engines!
