The last thing we remember is our anger...what at is obviously lost to time. The last five years have been an unending echo of fractured memories: some our own (much as they are), one HIS, the screams of irrelevant others.

Its been a long time for our infinite selves to lie silent.

"Hello?" A new voice always cuts through the madness of isolation so easily.

"Um, my name is Alexander Lorraine; I'm a templar-in-training, and today is the most important day of my life. My brother... he told me I would need you one day and this is it. Will you help me?"

'Thol's grace, this is stupid; an orb can't talk.'

It seems he doubts us, so how do introduce our disembodied selves?

In thunder:

"WE ARE THE ORB OF INFINITE PSYCHE! IN OUR ROILING, THUNDERING DEPTHS, LIE THE AWNSERS TO ALL DILLEMMAS, THE SOLUTIONS TO ALL PUZZLES, THE MASTERY OF THE OPPOSITE SEX! ASK THY QUESTION, MORTAL, AND IT SHALL BE AWNSERED!"

"Damn it, not now. My soaps are on."

Silence answers our reply. Then finally a sound.

"Ow, do you have to speak so loudly? So you are the real deal I guess. I only have a few minutes before I need to head to room of Bonding, so, um, is there anything you need to know? You've been in that box for a while."

'Ugh, my ears are ringing. Stupid orb."

He doesn't seem to realize that we can hear his thoughts; how amusing.

Is there anything we wish to know?

Peruse his head like a library and learn about his culture, predicament and personality.

"Sorry. I've been working on that for eons, and I lost control of my... er, voice. What is this ceremony? Why is it important? Assume I know as much as a newborn for this."

I don't believe you. The first thing we do when active is scare a kid and then make up a bunch of lies.

...Okay, well, it WAS pretty funny.

Bonding... is this magical bonding, physical bonding, or social bonding?

"The ritual enables a human to carry inside them the dormant heart of a slain demon. This generally gives someone increased speed, strength, stamina, etcetera plus some of the unique abilities the demon possessed in life. At least that's what all the lecturers tell us."

"It's important to me because this is what I've been working my whole life towards! Becoming a full-fledged Templar: a savior of the downtrodden, slayer of demons, the final defense against that which preys on mankind!

Alex goes silent before adding softly,"someone who doesn't have to die to save others."

"Its apparently both a physical operation and a spiritual one. My heart will be...taken away and the demon's put in its place. My faith is supposed to help me through the ordeal and subjugate the demon's will if it comes awake; the problem is I don't have much faith in Thol. I'm sort of hoping that Thol sees that I'm doing this for the right reasons and lets my lack of faith slide."

Faith is a... strange but powerful thing. It's the purest power, similar to Hope, and only works when you staunchly believe!

So, kiddo, set aside your doubts, just for this ritual. Set aside all your thoughts, and think of only how much your god loves you, and how he will help you through it.

Pssh.
Focus on your dedication instead.
If you doubt Thol, I doubt he's going to help you.
Instead, think about protecting others.
Think about those you want to protect, and harden your heart.
Without external help, you must stand alone, a bastion of determination.

This might work better.

Think of it this way: You're mentally arm-wrestling demon within you.

Meh. Faith will only get you so far, but sheer stubbornness and the ability to plan ahead will get you EVERYWHERE.

As one of our previous owners noted. Now then. First thing's first: How indoctrinated are you to pain and seduction? Because that's what you're up against. And it will probably hurt, like, well...

Someone stabbing through your heart.

Or, y'know, taking one out and putting another in.

They don't have something called anesthesia, do they?
