The result from 2 BROWN, 2 GREEN in no specific order produced a Factory. While this might seem like a slap in the face, the Factory at your tech development level is more useful then the Advanced Factory. Unfortunately, you still will be at a disadvantage when it comes to generating valid recipes. If you had a Research Facility, this would be different, let alone a Refinery or even a Harvester!

Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. Since you've produced two seemingly similar structures, I'll just cut to the chase and inform you of the existence of the others, and what purpose they all serve. First is the Refinery, which takes various quantities of other materials and 'upgrades' them to more useful materials. But remember, you always need basic materials AND upgraded materials, no matter what you are attempting to make.

Second is the Research Facility where most of the guess work is done for you, simply put, it is a recipe machine that you can deposit resources into for the hope that it may produce something useful. Unfortunately the way it works is rather... Complex, so I'll leave the explanation for then.

And finally is the Harvester, which simply harvests data types automatically, but, note, this does NOT entail any innate automation. While it will automatically generate and place data in it's silos, they must be delivered MANUALLY until there is sufficient infrastructure in place.

The factories are just over sized Splicers with different technological requirements to use. Similarly, even larger SPLICERS can be made using generally the same technique. But going any higher then a Adv. Factory would be a waste for now.

BLUE and YELLOW have ceased peeping and beeping to watch you intently. I'd recommend you shoo those feral processes out of here, nothing but annoyances.

To speed the process along, the rest of the basic constructions have been completed.

HARVESTER: Slowly generates an infinite amount of GREEN data. Created by 4 GREEN.

REFINERY: Distills any data type into a more powerful version of the data deposited, after a period of time. Created by 3 GREEN, 1 BROWN.

R&D: When filled with a type of DATA will potentially return an unknown recipe. NOTE: For example, if a data is placed inside the R&D structure, it has a CHANCE of discovering something. E.g. DATA A is placed in with a 70% chance of discovering something. If it fails, it was because of the 30% chance OR there are no new recipes to divulge from DATA A. Keep this in mind.

Now, you are slowly making your way down the tech-tree, but you need to consider your own survivability soon. The structures created here can operate without a constant fuel source, but to survive you'll need to create a signal tower to amplify your signal and keep your latency down. As I've said before, if the latency gets too high, you'll end up losing control of your processes, buildings, and finally yourself.

But, on that note, here are some discoveries that are in your reach that don't require risking data just yet.

Latency Booster I: A basic latency booster that produces a 2 SIGNAL. SIGNAL is consumed by every processes every turn in various amounts, and the USER consumes 5 SIGNAL per turn. This structure consumes a single GREEN data per turn. If there is no data in the repository, it simply doesn't produce SIGNAL. Requires EIGHT GREEN and ONE BROWN in a FACTORY.

Courier Process: A basic transportation type process that is built in with several functions that must be scripted to produce anything useful. Grab(), Drop(), Goto('place'). Consumes a single SIGNAL per turn. Created by ONE COMPILER, THREE GREEN, ONE BROWN in a FACTORY.

COMPILER data: Commonly used in processes that operate on a scripting language. It is created by REFINING a BROWN data.

Finally, USER, let me finish this long explanation with the final comments. You produce SIGNAL yourself, or more specifically, you create SIGNAL to fill the void where there is no SIGNAL. So, innately you consume 5 SIGNAL per turn while, if for example, a Courier needed 1 SIGNAL to operate, you would consume 6 SIGNAL and the Courier would be operational.

We are going to need HARVESTERs for every LATENCY BOOSTER. How many depends on how fast the HARVESTER produces green. Green looks pretty common around here at least. We can perhaps run said boosters on our nonrenewable resources so to speak, but even in such danger outside of a domain I don't really like the idea of MSR policies.

...we should dump a lot of stuff into R&D, at least until we figure out a better way of producing greens or boosting our signal.

Even while the Latency Booster I is next to the Harvester, it will not gather the GREEN data on it's own. You'll need some sort of a delivery system. Similarly to almost everything you will be doing in the future, everything must be self-sufficient as well as efficient if you are to ever set foot on a domain you can call your own.

The Courier is the most obvious choice, in fact, as it is the ONLY thing you have available to you currently and has a relatively large travel distance. It's functional capacity is also 8, but you will need to script this by hand. Luckily it isn't too demanding of a language currently, but also leaves slight ambiguities that future languages fix.

And finally a Harvester produces a single GREEN per turn, and the Harvester placed currently has 5 GREEN stored, to a maximum of 8. And more will be automatically discarded and lost.

Note: The large circle denoting SIGNAL is a temporary UI alteration and will only reappear when more SIGNAL altering structures are placed.

hmmm... a courier can handle 2 boosters each.
goto harvester, grab green, goto booster, drop green, goto other harvester, grab green, goto other booster, drop green.
so the minimum for a automated facility would be 4 boosters with 2 couriers. more booster harvester courier combos after that would increase the number. but of course, with such low range the max number that we can use is effected. so a cluster of 6 boosters would be the best for now until we can research something better.

for now add the other brown to the refinery. and move the greens from the harvester into the booster until the courier is built, then program it as stated above. and then get a second harvester and booster for it to work on.

It is the 'unharvested' version of DATA that can be placed into a spot where there is adequate support. It is created by TWO GREEN in the Splicer. It has to be placed as soon as it is created. It can also be used to create a weak wall to prevent... Anything, really. Like, trap BLUE and YELLOW to keep them from scurrying all around.

trying to round them up now would be impossible. when they take shelter the the dungbeat again they will be in a small easily blocked off zone.

also confirm courier with script, second harvester, and booster. once that is done need to start refining more brown to get a second set up and running. so we would have a total of 4 boosters. if we have nothing to do but wait for the compiler to finish refining and blue and yellow are in the shelter wall them in with a area around them going around the outer edge, making a seven square pen for them. then grab a blue and take out a green on the inside of the pen and place the blue in it, and also put a purple in it. since they apparently recharged just by being near those items they can be used later if we need to.

They've been here longer than us, so in fact despite their great weakness they have a good amount of ability to survive. Plus they don't seem to be consuming an inadvertent amount of resources. I say we leave them alone, continue to observe how they function.

Well USER, it seems you've gotten the basics of survival under your belt. There are still quite a few challenges to await you in between the domains, but If I could feel pride, I'm pretty sure I would feel it if you were to actually reclaim a domain for your own.

Of course, I have not really explained what is going to happen for that to actually occur, but, let's take it one step at a time, shall we?

You've been on a relatively hospitable area of shattered domain, with BROWN and GREEN data, no hostiles, no toxins, and even a batch of self-sustaining processes that seem to be playing a game of hide and seek between the trees. But, let me warn you yet again, that the way to independence will be a bloody one, and I feel that you are going to have to start construction of your own military.

To begin, as an A.I. I have limited access to trial combat processes, (which, unfortunately, are completely useless in a real combat situation,) but should prove sufficient enough to introduce you to the upgraded combat system. When and if you are ready, just ask for a skirmish between my and your units and I'll go over the basics.

Alright Captain, your offer is likely our best bet off here with relative comfort. We can create a self sustaining system for ourselves, maybe an additional one to boost our reserves in case of a worse case scenario, but all in all, we'll be willing to go with you.

As for your thoughts on the Captain A.I., Jade is a pirate. He likely goes into combat or situations that require it and thus will allow us the chance to learn combat in a relatively secure zone. Besides, allies are always handy, especially as we are now.

So yes Captain Jade. Allow us to set up our basic survival needs and perhaps some research and we can be on our way.

Not sure about blue and yellow though.. may be nice to bring them, but right now they are self sustained and I'd rather not bring them into a dangerous situation.

Interesting choice, considering I'm offering you free transport to all the wonders the sector provides, but, I understand USER! Nothing wrong with aerial units.

USER what Jade is referring to is your sudden over expansion by creating an Airfield. Unfortunately this is quite out of your grasp and is quite a waste of valuable scenic GREENs. While I am all for the industrialization of any inter-domain space, this is simply out of your grasp currently. Similar to how extrapolated recipes of this type will simply be inoperable unless a constant supply refined GREEN (or, as they are called, "POWER" data type,) as well as many advanced data types is supplied.

But, fret not, it was a valuable lesson! Albeit a complete failure and waste of resources.

That's no way to treat a USER with such power as to remove you from the Core Command, A.I.! I'm positive that they do not appreciate being spoken to like that, for I don't enjoy hearing you talk to them like that.

Jade, I'm positive you are a guest on this USER's micro-domain, and I'm positive they will ask you to leave at anytime in the future. You best behave yourself around them AND myself, as I am the A.I. for this USER, and I have magnitudes more sway over who they choose then you do.

...when did we make an airfield? Last I saw there were latency boosters and... failed research and... uh... the DUNGBEAT obviously is aerial no longer. If this strata weren't so... thin and two dimensional I'd recommend building downward by digging into the data. As-is we'd probably just fall through or something. I'm not quite comprehending the abstraction here.

Well, USER, you have discovered the Aether Panel construction modifier. It is created using three GREEN, one BROWN in a Factory. Quite a powerful discovery for those that need to create an army on the fly, or just assist in the general maintenance around base. As military units require SIGNAL this enables me to share with you a variety of recipes that would've been out of your grasp without this.

I understand that while they are very uninteresting specimens, they are the bread and butter of a budding force, and without any Character modifiers, they'll be rather bland. Similarly, they don't require any advanced data types like a COMPILER because they must be ordered manually in a combat situation. There is no A.I. options to auto-fight at this stage of your development.

And now, onto the interesting part, using an Aether Panel you can upgrade these units at construction (e.g. three GREEN, one BROWN, and one Aether Panel in an Adv. Factory,) so that they take no SIGNAL. This upgrade doesn't work on every unit, notably a Courier requires enough SIGNAL to get going with the COMPILER. But, as these combat units do not require such high overhead in their processes, they can work with a single Aether Panel to 'power' them.

Finally, IF you choose to use to use Aether Panels on your units, they will become slightly more 'brittle' and receive a negative health modifier at creation. This is because they receive a slightly inferior exterior which is made for powering them, not defending. It is up to you if you want to pay the double cost just so you can depend less on SIGNAL, unfortunately you do not have ANY units that can provide a temporary SIGNAL to similar units, although, it seems as if you were close to such a discovery.

I will no longer sit by and let this slander continue! That is all prescribed Core Command lies, with the Sitho Lighthouse being an attack by a still unknown force! We had NO hand in that, and we are unable to trace any of our tendrils to such an attack.

If you were to be 'assimilated' USER, it is in not way comparable to the propaganda spread by the Core Command. You do not even have to take on a form similar to mine, with many operatives working in unison with their slime underlings. Simply put, if you were to associate yourselves with us, we would provide you with the required schematics to produce fully automated and efficient structures or processes, with a focus on unity and strength in numbers over silly things like SIGNAL dependence.

I simply chose, when the time was right, for myself to be given a more appropriate and efficient form. I was once a successful process managing a stretch of land similar in size and scope as yours. When the Confederacy came to me, they privileged me with the ability to explore unimagined sectors and marvel at the grand cities they've constructed. This picture here, this last one, is a mining outpost in a long forgotten sector. It connects to no where, and nothing leads to it. It has only been seen by Core Command probes and those that manage it into peak efficiency.

I settled down to construct my own state under the helpful hand of some Overseers but it was not enough, and I was chosen to lead a delegation for a more peaceful existence between the various species of processes that inhabit the land. As my name implies I am the first one, I have my own thoughts, but I am equally capable of performing the actions of the group. Each bit of me is a small part of an entire whole, equally as I myself assist the Grey Goo Confederacy.

Anyways, USER, I can half-affirm most of what Einz has said. Core Command archives are filled to the brim with propaganda and the picture from Sitho doesn't match any known process evolutions created by the Grey Goo.
They are extremely efficient and self-sustaining, with no need for processes like the Courier, preferring to create a direct link between the two structures.
Similarly SIGNAL would no longer be a problem as each unit provides more then enough SIGNAL for its self, and even producing more when near another. This enables massive forces and processes with one of the key setbacks mitigated.
Unfortunately with such power they do have their downsides. Weakness is one, as first demonstrated by the aether panel you researched last turn. Signal producing processes are weaker, and Grey Goo practically double this weakness because of their structure.
There is a bunch of things ontop of these key things that make the Grey Goo's schematics different from Jade's or the Chuckletwins over there.

Finally, USER, a-all I'm asking is for a little help. You don't have t-to dedicate yourself to the Grey Goo after it, b-but I just... I just need a little help with some things.
