The Frisbee wobbled across the Quad to float down into a loafing student's waiting hands. It was a bright clear day, warm with a soft breeze that brought students out into the grassy area between buildings in droves. Roosevelt University, formerly Northeast State, was a small yet distinguished liberal arts college with 6,000 students in a sleepy rural town of 15,000. It was a wholly unremarkable location and certainly undeserving of being the site where the events of another world would violently intrude upon this one.

It started when a pale lightning bolt bereft of thunder exploded into existence, crossing the Quad in a bare instant before extinguishing as if it never had been. The people in the area had only a moment to wonder at what had happened before a low keening otherworldly wail began to assault their ears.

A red mist seeped in from nothingness all along the bolt's path like smoke slipping under the crack of a door. It quickly billowed out into a bulky cloud mass that rapidly spread in all directions. Crackling little forks of black energy danced back and forth across the wavefront. One lashed out to strike the statue of Teddy Roosevelt overlooking the fountain at the center of the Quad. Immediately, the stone figure melted and twisted like bubbling liquid before going still, its form completely changed: a massive armored Gothic warlord stood astride the fountain an oddly simple ax held aloft.

The sheer speed of the totally unexpected event meant most of the people in the area were caught completely flat footed as they stared in shock and awe, their minds struggling to quantify what they were seeing. A few instinctively fled only to find that similar blood red clouds surging from around other buildings, the expanding mist quickly cutting off their escape. The first person to come in to contact with the stuff simply fell to the ground immediately without a sound, his unconscious body shook and quivered unnaturally.

A girl let out a horrifying shriek of pain as the wavefront washed over her. Her two friends cringed as they were engulfed but both found the mist to be completely harmless, it slipping into their lungs like simple clean air. Looking outward once more, they were horrified to see that their screaming friend's hair was on fire. They moved to frantically help, one pushing her down against the grass as the other threw her jacket over her head. It did nothing, vanishing in a gout of smoke as the fire on her head engulfed it. Her hair was totally gone now and another fire had started around her hips. Her friend tried to roll her over as the other sat back in shock as she saw her face, now changed. She'd long since stopped screaming. Her eyebrows were twin licks of flame and her features were smooth, and coldly beautiful in a way they'd never been. But it was her eyes that truly shocked, for they were utterly black orbs with tiny flickering flames for pupils.

There was no recognition in the fire elemental's alien eyes, her lips curved in a sneer as she raised one slender finger into the air. A tremendous furious cone of flame erupted from that comparatively tiny digit and showered both girls, ashing them both near instantly. An expression of sinful pleasure graced her face as she floated upward on a twisting column of smoke that caressed her form clothed only in a shifting flame. From the twin piles of ash that had only moments before been her friends, two wispy figures of flame rose to join her in her assent.

What fantasy race does each of them become?

What are there genders?

The male student pushed his chair back and got to his feet in alarm as the red mist passed over him.

The female student's reaction was somewhat more extreme...

Her body writhed and curled against the table as her nervous system was wracked with an all encompassing pain. Skin stretched and tore. Bones ground against each other and pressed outward. The transformation was not smooth, at points during the process it looked as if some hideous plague were causing her body to tear itself brutally apart. The open wounds caused by the rapid changes were quickly healed as her form grew larger and more muscular, her clothes tearing.

A few minutes passed and the girl was entirely unrecognizable, standing on cloven hooves and seven foot tall. She had an elongated muzzle, her face not quite human anymore but not completely bovine either. The horns sprouting from her forehead were short, each less than five inches in length.

She seemed to be in shock, staring past her now larger furred hands held out in front of her down to her massive powerful double jointed legs ending in dinner plate sized hooves.

It did not appear as if she had noticed the way her well muscled torso had destroyed her t-shirt, her now decidedly -generous breasts on display, the twisted and torn wreck of her bra stretched beneath them.

By this time the strange phenomenon had hit the guy as well and he writhed upon the floor, his fifteen foot lower half squirming and coiling around the table unconsciously.

Holy

Demonic

Psionic

Elsewhere

Trooper Kyle Davis kicked a rock into the wall of roiling blood colored fog.

He heard footsteps coming up from behind and a concerned feminine voice, “What is it? Do you think it's dangerous?”

He turned and gestured the woman back, “Please return to your car, Ma'm.”

She did so, slowly. He heard one of the other people standing around beside their cars say something about a terrorist attack. Kyle cursed under his breath. That was the last thing he needed. He'd already sent up a report but he got the feeling dispatch had taken him seriously. They wouldn't be doubting him if they were here seeing a damned wall of red mist bisecting the highway and the entire landscape that he could see to the east and west. It was...unnatural. There was a breeze coming from the north but the red stuff wasn't moving at all except for the way it pulsed outward and inward an inch or so every few seconds.

Shit...

Part of him just wanted to step into the mist and prove it was absolutely harmless. Some funky weather thing-low hanging swamp gas or an out of place aurora borealis or something. But he couldn’t quite make himself do it. He really didn't like to think about the fact that the town of Kirkington was only about a mile and a half beyond. The words 'nerve toxin' kept flitting into his brain thanks to that yahoo back there...

Back at the library...

Aloysius rubbed his head. It ached abominably. He grabbed the edge of a table to right himself, pulling his serpentine length in underneath himself. Where was he? His thoughts were foggy and sluggish, confused and mixed.

He focused on the minotaur lass whose wardrobe was in a state of extreme disrepair. She looked to be in some distress, muttering to herself. The words were unintelligible for a few moments but when Alle-Aloysius focused on them he realized he knew the language, “This isn't happening. This isn't happening. I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming. Just wake up. Wake up, Kathy. WAKE UP!”

“It's not a dream, I'm afraid.” he said waving his hands in to show his lack of weapons. Definitely didn't want to upset a minotaur.

Her head jerked in his direction and her torso twisted. The jiggling reaction that caused to her abundant chest alerted her to its exposure. A wordless cry of shock and dismay exploded out her muzzle as she covered her breasts with her arms. At the same time Aloysius was blasted back by a tremendous gust of wind, only the way his tail had instinctively curled around the table kept him from flying back against the railing of the balcony looking out over the ground floor. As it was he was simply stretched out across the carpet.

He pushed himself up with his hands to see the intricate green tattoo on the back of her right hand glowing. The light faded away after a few seconds, leaving him staring at a thoroughly gobsmacked minotaur.

The naming was fairly important. It decided which personality dominated: the original form's or the new body's.

Like post 1 each, and we get amalgamations of af three? Or everyone post three for each character, and you'll combine them into the final personality?

“Easy. Easy.” soothed Aloysius as he rose up on his mid section slowly. “I'm not looking. I think we both have bigger problems to deal with at the moment.”

Kathy stared at him for a few seconds, an angry retort on her lips but the fact that he was a stranger and also apparently part snake killed it instantly. She focused on her immediate problem: Clothing issues. Looking down around her hoo-not hooves!- feet-around her feet... The remains of her t-shirt were mere shreds. Turning away from him, she tried to pull up her bra but the battered garment snapped apart instantly.

“Here. Try this.” Aloysius held out the ripped blue material that had been tangled around his tail. The -jeans (weird, where had that word come from? And why had the two legged clothing been on him?) were whole enough that she should be able to cover herself up enough.

Kathy snatched them out of his hands and quickly wrapped them about her breasts. Her eyes lingered on his shirt and her expression changed, “Allen? ALLEN! Is that you?! Holy- What the hell is going on?”

Aloysius felt a twinge of familiarity. Allen. Allen. His eyes went back to the pair of pants now serving as the minotaur's top. His memories were fuzzy. Some of them didn't fit. Didn't belong. He looked at the shattered remains of the minotaur's clothing. “I don't know what has happened.” He pulled out the garment covering his torso, a goblin like creature was very finely stitched on to it. The runes on it soon resolved themselves into language: Trust Me I'm A Jedi. “My memories are gone. It appears that our forms have been changed by some magic or another. May I have your name?”

“It's Kathy. Wow. You really don't remember me? Uh...guess that makes sense. You don't look like Allen anymore...like at all...” An awkward silence settled in.

Aloysius didn't want to give up this connection. A minotaur made for a powerful ally, especially one with magical abilities. In a situation where he had nothing and his environment was one of unknown threats, he could little afford to give up any bit off leverage. “I think I remember...” he glanced down at the open books spread out around the table, “we were studying, right?”

A distant scream pierced the building, a chorus soon accompanied it.

Aloysius's hands ached for his weapon of choice at the sound of those screams. Now would probably be a good time to look around, at least with his minotaur companion he stood a good chance of finding out about what' was going on here without suffering the same fate as whoever that was, whether it be because she successfully killed it or simply distracted it long enough for him to find safety. Preferably, the latter as providing timely aid to another could only strengthen his position here.

Kathy turned her large head in the direction of the screams, “That's not a good sound. You think...”
She headed towards the balcony's edge, one of her hands digging at her pocket for her cell. The incredible tightness of her now shredded jeans (more shorts than pants now) along with her larger fingers made the action a difficult one to say the least.

“That this is happening to others around us? That seems likely.” replied Aloysius as he slid along the carpet next to her, “Kathy, I think we need to stick together here. Whatever THIS is. We'll get through it together. Not to mention its our best chance for getting our memories straightened out.” The naga wasn't all that sure he wanted this Allen's memories back. He didn't think his own personality could be subsumed by the other but he couldn't be sure of that either.

Kathy succeeded in retrieving her cell as she snapped, “Our memories? There's nothing wrong with my head, buddy. Well...other than the fact I can see my mouth.” She rotated her jaw and went cross eyed for a moment before shaking off her distraction.

Aloysius felt a burst of irritation at her tone but quickly quashed it. This was not the time to let his emotions get the best of him. Besides he'd gotten the info he'd wanted: that she apparently wasn't having the same issues he was. That made sense in a way. Minotaur were not known for their supple minds, clearly Kathy had overpowered it just as he had this Allen person.

“Holy Bejeezus Batman.” muttered Kathy as she reached the much shorter rail than she remembered. From this vantage point on the third floor she could see most of the library, the top two floors were arranged as large balconies overlooking the ground floor, the atrium.

The library was chaos.

People were running in every direction, a veritable riot of motion. Interspersed throughout were individuals who seemed to be off in their own worlds, either just standing there in shock or curled up in the fetal position. Invariably, those ones had bodies that had been changed, the variety of transformations just short of unbelievable if she weren't seeing it with her own eyes.

Overlaid upon this scene of bedlam was a....crack (it was the only word her struggling mind could come up with) a crack in the air a good six feet across. It was like the world around her were somehow a 2 dimensional window pane and there was just this crack...this crack in her reality. It wasn't quite in sync with everything around it. Just looking at it made her head hurt. Swirling around it was a maelstrom of the red mist that filled the library, much thicker and angrier a storm cloud of the stuff. It even had bolts of black lightning that stabbed out from within its roiling folds every so often.

As she watched, a much larger branch of the black energy struck somewhere to her left around the second floor. The ground beneath her feet shook as what looked like a massive tree trunk exploded through the floor about 50 feet away, sending bookcases tumbling as the plant stretched up towards the ceiling. Up where it met the glass of the sky light, it actually seemed to merge with the clear panes, forming a twisted organic ceiling of sorts though it only extended a few meters in each direction before normal glass resumed.

“There.” Aloysius pointed directly across to the balcony on the other side of the atrium from them. There was an open area there filled with tables and people. Frightened, frantic people. Humans the majority. But the source of the screams were there. Some sort of undead, its form twisted and mishapen, wielded a jagged bone looking weapon as it pursued four individuals. Three youths. A human male and female. Some type of elf lass with those ears.

Choose the weapon Aloysius's hands ached for.
(Deciding his weapon proficiency)

What actions should they take?
Investigate the 'crack'?
Intervene across the way?
Call someone?
Something else entirely?

Bow or crossbow. (Because Aloysius doesn't seem like a close combat type.)

I second the vote for a gun; it would take them far too long to actually get down to the floor where they're needed.

Unless...

Kathy: can you do some sort of windy thing and get yourself and Allen off the balcony quickly, without having to find the stairs? That would probably be the best way down. Once there, get rid of the undead thing, then try to evacuate the library. People are going to get killed if this chaos continues.

You probably don't have the EXPERTISE needed to safely make it all the way across the courtyard, but using air to slow your descent while you move down from one balcony to the one below seems doable.

If nothing else, I like the idea of it being a gun because that could imply that Allen's personality is leaking a little into Loius.
