Hum… What is this? I’m being freed from my prison… Or have the Guardians finally come to finish me off? No… no it’s just some humans…
A man in a white cloak, wearing a demonic black and red mask, is standing right in front of you, arms spread out as if in embrace. In front of him on the floor, a man is tied up and blindfolded, unmoving. In the background, behind a circle of protection, several more people are cloaked in black, kneeling in meditation. On the floor are red runes, and dim candles. The whole room is very dark, and the figures cloaked in black melt into the background.
“Oh great Prometheus, lord of fire, we free you from these bonds! Accept this sacrifice and destroy our enemies, and we will serve you as you please!”
Prometheus! Ha, the luck! It seems they freed the wrong spirit, Prometheus isn’t imprisoned on earth. I wonder what made them think he was here. Still, they knew enough to free me, so they have some idea of what they’re doing. I could kill them all, but if they’re capable of releasing me like this, they may be capable of putting me back in or even enslaving me. Now, I definitely need to possess someone, even if I had the power from 5 souls, I wouldn’t be able to break the circle of protection without the help of something physical. And without something physical to latch onto or a soul to feed off of, I can’t even remain in this realm for more than a few minutes.
There are three different ways I can go about doing this: I could rip his soul from his body, which is the easiest thing, but the body will decay into uselessness in a week or so: I could temporarily possess him, escape, and then leave his body when I find something else to hold on to, but he would be extremely difficult to control with devouring a soul first: Or ideally I could convince him to let me have his soul, by granting a wish (or something) and then holding onto his soul until the wish is successful or when he would normally have died. This would preserve the body, give me full control over it, and I would gain a portion of the power from his soul, until he dies, or I grant his wish, then I get the whole thing.

The man in white removes his mask, inhales deeply and shuts his eyes, then waits.
Although… who says it has to be that sacrifice, this old man seems to be standing inside the circle of protection as well.

I’m new to this so give me some slack. Also don’t expect a lot of pictures, i’m a pretty horrible artist.

if your not prometheus then who are you?

I say leave the old man alone for now, if he can bring you into this world he might have some kind of defense on him that would make possessing him a pain no matter what way you try and do it. also can you change how you possess someone if so take the sacrifice with the temporary form and see if you can't convince him to let you have his soul, I mean he's despite right now (or a really devote follower) so it shouldn't be to hard. if you can't convince him then just hold onto him until you can find a better body for yourself and only rip his soul away if he is to much of a bother ( I don't think we should do that right away because I'm not totally sure if we could find a better body in a week, for all we know we are in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing as our closest detestation.)

Anyway once we have that figured out then we can find out what these old guys want. And it might be a good idea to pretend we're Promethus for now.

I'd say followers are more useful than victims. And you've been sealed for far too long to chance being thrown back if these people aren't the hapless incompetent kind of summoner and are prepared if you attack. You can afford to quell your bloodlust for freedom.

Play along, pretend you're him, find out for what reason you've been freed. Then use the wish thing to bind him.

And yeah, fill us in on yourself. Who or what are you?

These lifeforms are foolish and insignificant. It is pointless to soulstrip them when they will so easily grant you their souls for mere trinkets.

Avoid revealing that you're not Prometheus, at least for now; you should wait until you have more information.

If you temporarily possess someone, can you communicate with them mentally, and/or hitch a ride without fully taking control?

If so, I'd suggest hopping in the sacrifice without immediately attempting to wrestle his soul for control. Tell him silently that whatever the old man might think you don't *have* to consume his soul as a sacrifice, and then have a quick chat with him to figure out what's up. He'll probably be willing to play along, and then you'll have more information before committing to who you want to support and who you want to snack on. The cult's plan of "destroy our enemies" might or might not fit in with your own agenda.

Assuming the outcome of that quick discussion makes you disinclined to like the old man offering a human sacrifice, use the sacrifice's mouth to ask him: "You offer a sacrifice, that I might consume it and return to this plane? Do you desire power over others, that you might impose your will upon them or destroy them if they refuse? I can enhance your form and make it powerful enough to destroy all those who oppose you! I care not what principles my believers hold to, as long as they spread those principles to all those on this plane. Do you accept my terms?"

If he does, then he's clearly a willing human sacrifice himself, even if he doesn't know it yet. Grant his wish. :)

Why ask just the old man what he wants? Lets find out if the sacrifice has any wishes, he might be more pliable than the old man if he got dragged here unwillingly.

Tell the sacrifice: "They meant to sacrifice you, but they made a mistake; I am not the human devouring spirit they meant to conjure...
Tell me human, do you wish to live"
Or if that is laying it too thick "do you wish my aid in escaping this place?".
Either way once you fulfill the wish you claim both body and soul.

>if your not prometheus then who are you?
My name is Multis, I’m a Nether spirit, (which are now called demons). I escaped the lower realms long ago and came to earth when humans were still young. In a few years I managed to make a small name for myself within the religions of a few human tribes bargaining for souls as trickster or warrior spirit. But after those few years the Guardians came, had their followers imprison me in a statue, and then bury me is some deep hole.
I may still be mentioned in some old books, or stories. But I sense that those have long since been lost and forgotten.

I enter the body of the sacrifice, and gain a glimpse into his memories.l: His name is Rache Klein. He has a wife, a daughter, and a brother in another city. He was a mechanic who helped fix the machines in a factory owned by a the mafia. He is well educated, and his job paid him enough to feed his family and stay mediocrely comfortable. On a seemly normal day he came home to find it was being robbed and his family was missing. He tried to attack the robbers but was easily overpowered. The robbers then beat him unconscious, and he woke up here, bound and blindfolded.
You hear his thoughts, “If they’re going to sacrifice me, they might try and cut out my heart or something. I can grab the knife, use it to fight my way out. I hope this isn’t happening to my family too. Gods I hope they’re alive. Why has nothing happening...”
”No knife, just me.” Rache jolts, at the comment and sits up straight.
“Who is that?” He speaks out loud, quietly, but out loud, and it gives away the fact that I’ve possessed him. The cloaked figures become silent and their eyes watch the sacrifice.
”I’m in your head Rache. Do you wish to see your family again?”
“Who the fuck are you, and why are you in my head?” He speaks with his thoughts this time.
”Think of me as a ghost. These people had the intention for me to kill you Rache. To steal your soul, and use it to ‘destroy their enemies’. Do you wish to see your family again?”
Rache pauses a long time, thinking in the back of his head trying to guess what I will say next, and wonders why I didn’t answer his questions, the whole time memories of his family distracting him. He doesn’t seem realize I can read those thoughts too. “What do you want from me?”
[i]”I don’t ask for you soul or your life, I’m simply apprehensive of their ambitions and merciful towards you. I only wish to use your body to speak to them.”
He quickly catches on to my request, wondering why I would be cautious of them.
[i]”They may have released me from my original prison, but I cannot leave this room without a body. I escaped prison once, I don’t want to be stuck in another one just yet. Would you like to escape as well, Rache?”

He likes the deal more, but finds it too good to be true “So that’s it; you just take my body, walk out of here, and I go home to my family? If you really wanted my body, why didn’t you just take it then. Aren’t you some evil demon.”
”I was showing mercy Rache. If you wish me to walk out of here in your corpse I will, but I figured you valued your life enough to accept my offer.”[/i}
“Ok, fine then. Use my body. But how do I know if these gangsters aren’t going to just kill me as soon as you leave”
[i]”You don’t.”

I move into take control. The sensation scares him for a moment and he resists, but after more memories of his family pop up he stops and I take over.
I turn to the cloaked figures and speak with Raches body, I make his voice sound as loud as possible and echo through the stone room. “You offer a sacrifice, so that I might consume it and return to this plane? What enemy do you fear so greatly that you would call upon an ancient god to destroy them? Or do you desire power, so that you might impose your will upon them or destroy them if they refuse?“
The man in whites face brightens like a child who found an ocean of candy. “My lord Prometheus! We honor what you have done for our kind, and find it disgusting that these so called gods would imprison you in this way. As if you were some lesser demon from the nether. Please we wish for your respect and your protection. The so called guardians have abandoned humanity. And there is a witch who opposes us. At every turn she has thwarted our business, by killing my men and destroying my work. All of our attempts to stop her have failed. Please dispose of her so we may serve you however you wish!”
He must be one of Prometheus’ followers. I was under the impression that they were all slaughtered as heretics. I guess at least one of them survived. How should I proceed.

Compliment the wizard for choosing an appropriate sacrifice, a user of technology who can appreciate the usage of fire. Try to get a feel for the cult and see what resources they have available. Find out if these guys are holding onto Rache's family, lie to the old man and say that you need additional bodies to serve as acoylytes. If we're lucky Rache's family is intact and we can secure the his continued cooperation by keeping them that way.

PFFTHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What an idiot. Prometheus has been gone for years? And he didn't contact his followers? What a dick! Become a better Prometheus than he ever was.

Also, realize that you may BE Prometheus with his memories altered to control you better.

Get some info on the witch. See how she has been messing with this guy and where she can be found (or at least where we should start looking). Maybe ask who this guy is as well so we can at least have a name to call him by.
After we get some more info we can decide wither or not we want to help him or ditch him for greener pastures

Also what can you do really, so far all we really know of you is that you can possess people.

That sounds like a story with a lot of spin on it. Definitely get the whole story here before picking a side.

At some point in the last post Rache/Multis broke free from the blindfold and stuff, you must’ve missed it.
>possibility that you are Prometheus
I met Prometheus once. The guardians imprisoned him in the nether, and it would take much more to release him than a dozen humans. He was still there when I left.[i]
>Also what can you do really
[i]When I possess a body I can make it a lot stronger and faster. I can absorb energy I’m in contact with it (so make a room cold/make it dark/muffle noises), and I can create it at a distance (start fires/blind people/make sounds far away). I’m also not corporeal in this realm. If I’m not possessing something I have complete freedom of movement, unless of course I trapped in a circle of protection like this. This is advantageous in that sense however I lose a significant amount of power keeping myself from being pulled back into the nether.

>Compliment the wizard for choosing an appropriate sacrifice
> ask who this guy is
“You’ve done well choosing this sacrifice, his memories tell me much of what has become of humanity. Tell me, what is your name old man?”
“My name is Walter Heinrich my lord, I am glad you approve.” He bows as he speaks.
From Raches memories I see that Walter Heinrich is his boss. There is a level of fear to that name. He remembers many stories of people being killed or beaten when they opposed Mr.Heinrich.
>Try to get a feel for the cult and see what resources they have available
> get the whole story here before picking a side
“Well then Walter Heinrich, how has a single woman opposed a man as powerful as you.” I sound as condescending as possible.
“Black magic my lord. I have trained for many years in the dark arts, however she has done things beyond my comprehension. The spirits she has bound to her will, and the curses she has made are more powerful than I could have imagined.
She has forced us to condemn entire factories, and cursed many of my more valuable employees. Please forgive my incompetence. But a shadow spirit I control told me of your existence and said that you’d would help us willingly.”
“Are cursed henchmen and a shadow spirit the only resources you possess? Summoning an ancient God is a rather drastic measure. Exactly how many of your assets Has she destroyed?” I ask, trying to get more detail.
“I do not wish for this summoning to seem out of desperation my lord. I summoned you because I believe you have done more for humanity in your short time, than the guardians have in all of eternity. And my assets, I have many.
“I have taken one of her trickster spirits, and I also control a fire sprite. As for worldly resources; my organization controls nearly the whole city. Only the factories connected to larger organizations are out of my control, however I still have men who work within all of them to give me intel. I even have the incompetent local guardsmen in my pocket. But none of these things are enough to capture a foe such as this.”
Several things are wrong with all of this, especially the fact that a shadow spirit told him how to free ‘Prometheus’. First of all, any spirit that knows of Prometheus, knows that he is stuck in the nether. Second, unless this witch is a servant of the guardians, Prometheus wouldn’t help them. Even if she was, Prometheus would still be quite apathetic. And third, no bound spirit would have enough of a mind to tell its master where prometheus is, or me.
Also when Walter mentioned his factories being condemned, and the city under his control, he became worried. He knew that the mafia owned the factory where he worked, but he heard of a weapons factory and a refinery being condemned a little while ago. The refinery Rache believed to be owned by some curmudgeonly old man that everyone hates. It had never even crossed his mind that all of these factories and even the Guards are apart of the gang as well.

ok so this guy is has some bite to him, lets try not to piss him off just yet as he does sound like he could be very useful to have on our side. But maybe we should see this guy's shadow spirit and find out just what exactly is going on here, because I believe we have just been thrown into the deep end of the pool and told to sink or swim.
