I wouldn't count on the gang to dispose of the photos. I mean, they seem the type who would be willing to try and cash in the reward, or shake you down with the embarrassing ones. I'd much rather deal with the girl- she's halfway reasonable, and has a sense of humor.

And robbery is a worse crime than peeping!

Besides, if you help her, she's less likely to hang you out to dry. (Besides, longer term, a snoop with a camera on a powered indavidual's side is a good thing).

The question is, how do we help? Your power (if you have one) doesn't apply here (not that you've figured out how to use it yet).

>kept the foto of you in your undershirt? I could add a lifesized copy to the others on my wall.
File that away for future teasing and banter. Go ahead- hang me up on your wall. (Or if we never recover the camera- want me to pose for a replacement? :V)

Or they could find out what's on them, and turn them in themselves. Besides, are you really gonna let a cute girl like that see you walk calmly away while she gets assaulted?

Reach out, see if you can find any powers to steal. If you can, you might be able to go for a direct confrontation. If not, just uh... interrupt them. We just gotta distract them long enough for her to get away. Maybe you can start bringing up new gang names since they can't seem to decide on one. Tunnel Snakes? Black Widows? Centipedes can be pretty poisonous if they're going with that. Oh or how about something like Toxic Shock?

I don't think we are going to steal any powers here and even if we are we wont have time to learn to use them.

I see 3 options here.
1. Grab a pair of rocks (in per hand), run and kick the big guy in the nuts as hard as you can from behind, as he falls smash the two little thugs with a rock in the face each. (girl has some combat skill too, remember how easily she took you down). If it goes bad you might die.
2. Use cell phone to call police saying a 3 gang thungs are assaulting a teen girl at so and so street. (don't let them hear you make the call, might need to get further away).
3. Try to snatch the camera and run. Chasing you will help her get away.
4. Try to bribe them with something. Distracting them from hurting her and getting the photos, potentially you could paint her as your adversary saying she has stalked you and taken nude photos of you that you would like destroyed, offer to buy camera. Can backfire horribly if she speaks up out of spite or if they decide to actually check the photos.

I don't think we can do that. Author warned us that manipulating mundane powers in addition to supernatural would be one of the things that would make us take too long.

Now, if there was a power around, temporary transference of who was controlling it might be feasible (it's only a step past stealing- lending. Creating a new power is probably beyond what we can do, or if we can do it, probably one of the hardest and longest to master facets of our power).

It would probably be safest to just call the police, but I'm not sure that'd really work. Just ignoring this will probably be ok. Just let the situation defuse itself. The girl seemed like she could handle those guys a lot better that me. So if leave I'll probably even help her by not being a burden and holding her back. Yeah, just turn around and walk away...

"HEY! LET HER GO!"

Damnit.

I tackle the big guy with enough force to at least startle him, though without doing any damage whatsoever. At least I irritated him enough, for the girl to struggle free somehow. Now all I have to do is to snatch the camera and then manage to at least outrun them long enough to delete the pictures on there.

"RUN! I'LL.... urgrhhrh"

Again my plan doesn't make it past step one. Something slams into my stomch, squeezing the air out of my lungs and sending me flying backwards.

Is this... one of those powers? Is this real or did I just hit my head a little to hard just now? I try doing the only thing I can think of at the moment: I try using my power to somehow cause confusion - maybe I could just enhance his power beyond control or just switch it to his friend who'd be unable to control it, although I don't know what exactly I'm messing with and can only guess what kind of power a guy like him might have chosen.

I concentrate on... well... I actually don't know how to do any of this. I just discovered that this power even works. Maybe if i just think about what I want it to do really hard...

Bang - Another kick breaks my concentration.

Those were some good ideas how you could have used your power to get out of this situation - but sadly all you can do at the moment is detecting powers at touch range and learning anything new or improving what you have already learned will take time.

So let's take this tastefull fade to clarify how improvement would work, taking your new ability to detect powers as an example. You learned it by running around the city all day trying to find other people with powers, and since it's a pretty basic and simple aspect of your power you learned it pretty fast.

Of course just being able to notice, that somebody has a power when you touch him and not even knowing what that power might be, isn't that great. Luckily you can just spend some days improving this ability (well - of course you might need a lot longer than just some days, depending on how far you want to improve it).
If you work on your range, you'll be able to detect powers from further away until you're able to detect a power user on sight, or to know their locations in the whole city or even all over the world (Those last two being examples of improvements, that take much longer). If you want to know more about a detected, you can work on that trait, just learning what the power is at first, up to a detailed analysis of all it could do and what part of this potential the power user has already unlocked as well as how long all of it it would take to learn the rest.
Those are just some examples of how detection could be improved, maybe you can think of something else (like the ability to detect locations where a power has been used or a power user has been). That's all up to your imagination.

Of course you might want to learn some other abilities first. Something that isn't just about seeing stuff, but using that stuff to fry your opponents head by cranking it up to eleven. If so, you can just concentrate on learning that instead, but it might be good to know, that some aspects of your potential are dependant on others. If you want to learn how to boost other powers, you can start directly, but since you have to perceive a power to manipulate it, you could only use it on somebody you touch. In order to improve the range of this ability you'd have to improve the range your detection ability first.
Similarly - to just momentarily boost the power, you'd just need to know it's there, but to make this boost permanent or to unlock completely different yet unlearned aspects of that power (like helping somebody who has chosen absolute control over his body to learn at least some of his skills), you'd have to be able to analyse the power in detail first.

So just choose what you want to be able to do and what you think is important to learn first. I don't think that I know all possible options you have now myself. Remember though that you can only manipulate powers to doing what they could do on their own - you can't create new powers and you cannot change a power to a completely different power.

Ow - I should have just gone home... I should have just ignored this all and turned my back on the whole thing, but I somehow could'nt do it.
Luckily the two get bored with me pretty quickly - well one of them does, the other doesn't even begin to really notice me - and so I end up in a dumpster.
That stupid power didn't help me one bit. I'm still entirely sure it really worked. But the more I think about it, the more I'm sure something happened. The moment I touched the stoned looking guy, I noticed more and more that there was something around him - some strange aura. So either that dream last night was real or I am losing my mind.

Dig self from trash, go home and take a shower, you will feel better. Can't check on the girl but she knows where you live so hopefully she doesn't publish photos and instead comes to visit you.

Focus on detecting powers at range. Without that you would have to touch people to manipulate/locate powers and will come off as a creep.

(focus on detedtion for now, at least to the point where we can detect people without having to touch them or be breathing down there neck for us to sense them, then we can learn how to manipulate other's powers)

Oh well, at least no one can acuse you of not trying. I think the best thing we can do right now is head home and take a shower then regroup and go from there.
>>
No. 510981 ID: d6ef5d

C'mon, get out of there. At least the girl got away with her camera. And she's less likely to try and ruin your life for money than those jerks would have been.

>what practice?
I would start with detection range. Touch range is useless, we need some degree of line of sight in order to do anything useful. (Although I'm assuming power sense range is based on distance, not sight. Possibly modified by stronger powers being easier to pick up, or 'visible' from further away, or by rare or special materials that have properties to block our scanning).

Once we have some range, the next thing to work on would be 'volume'. The ability to crank a power up or down- enhance or suppress it. (Probably not good enough to completely shut down a power, initially).

Then, in order to allow more precise control over how we alter powers (selectively choosing what to effect, changing or enhancing only one aspect of a time, allowing some logical extension of the power, messing with costs and consequences, etc), we need to be able to understand what we're working with. That means refining detection so it gives us information about what we're working with. That way we're messing with circuits or a control board we can 'see' instead of just trying increase or decrease the flow of energy into the system.

I didn't even consider this option... someone who has chosen an awesome power would take too long to actually gain the powers... except we can make them unlock it in a reasonable time-frame.

I crawl out of the heap of garbage and stumble home. I hear my mom in the living room and quickly try to sneak past her. It's better if I don't have to explain how I look right now. I'm not sure if I want to involve her in any of this.

At least not until I'm sure what exactly happened. Maybe I should try to train my power - maybe trying to use it from further away. That stoned guy might make a good test subject as long as I could avoid the other two. Those three can't be together all the time.

But before I do any of this I need a bath. As I reach the top of the stairs I hear my mother downstairs.

>"Hey! What's this! Don't I even get a 'Hi, I'm home anymore."

"Euhm - Sorry mom, I didn't notice you." - I try to turn my face, so she doesn't see the bruises from down there.

>"Well I let your friend in earlier - he's probably still waiting in your room for you."
I guess Chris has found a safe hiding place for all his important documents and is now using my internet, so that the government can't trace his visits to various conspiracy forums directly back to him or something.

"Oh - Ok, I have to take a bath first."

>"... everything OK?"

"Yes... - euhm yes... just... the meteor hunt got a bit messy today..."

I slip out of her line of sight and into the bathroom before she can ask any more questions. Throwing my dirty clothes into a corner, I start letting in hot water and examine my swollen eye in the mirror. I don't think Chris'll mind waiting a bit longer and this little pause also gives me some time to think of what has happened since yesterday or whether i want to let some parts out for now.
Knowing him he'd probably be the only one who'd believe me and I could be pretty sure that he'd not run to the police or even to a news station, if I'd ask him. On the other hand he would probably post it anonymously on one of his forums and that might attract some unwanted attention.

I mean, he can even brag anonymously about the space rock online, so long as there's nothing tying it back to us. (I mean, it's hardly as if you're the only one who found one. Everyone with a power will have).

"HEY! What happened? Did you find something? There's somebody in your room. What's with your eye? "

I try ignoring my sister jumping around me as I leave the bathroom. But as she tries to squeeze into my room I have to acknowledge her existence.

"Nothing happened! Get out!"

As for what to do, as calmly as you can ask why she is in your room? If an awkward silence happens just say "well I'm glad to see you got away"

How to cover up and be totally smooth. Without turning around, drape the towel over your shoulders and say this:
'I suppose you're here to see the thing I mentioned earlier? Or is it to repay me for my earlier attempt at heroism?'
>>

Okay. So after covering up, and the awkwardness, we should probably get introductions out of the way (neither of you knows the others name) and uh, see why she came back, I guess.

>>511397
Uh. Could we try and avoid saying anything skeezy at this point? Dunno if that's how you meant it, but it can sure be read that way, and we're in poor circumstances for it. She came back after we helped her out, I'd rather not scare her off again by pushing too hard.

Don't turn around, don't get embarrassed, don't flip out and scream like an idiot.

Just sigh in defeat, put your towel back on, and calmly ask her to get out of your room. You can talk to your mother about her eyesight later.

Supporting the don't-be-a-jerk initiative. Teasing her was appropriate before, now it's tasteless, inappropriate, insensitive, and counterproductive.

"I was just at home reading, and then...." - Something isn't right, although I can't quite put my finger on it. Chris hasn't said anything yet, so I turn around to check whether everything is alright.

"AHHH." - "AhHH."

"GAH." I nearly drop my towel, but am able to yank it up at the last moment - "I just... SORRY! I... WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

"AH I saw... uh.... I DID'NT SEE ANYTHING... I mean... I just came by to say thanks and... and your sister let me in and... I... uhm.... just...."

"Ok... Could you... just... leave the room for a minute or so..."

"... Sure..."

Great - Thanks mom.
Don't even know whether she made a mistake or just wanted to play a joke on me, but that was just what my day needed. Well it can hardly get any worse now.

>>
No. 511646 ID: e3aff6

Now that I think about it I am in favor of telling him about the powers, but if so you should really stress the importance of not telling others and especially not posting about it online. Things posted online tend to stay online, and even a site that is adequately secure (or obscure) right now likely won't be that way forever, especially if someone gives them real information. Seriously, posting supposedly non-incriminating information online screws people over in normal life; the addition of amateur security probably won't help those odds when weighed against the addition of the major and long-term attention that is likely to be tracking this sooner or later.

Better question- How do we PROVE the powers part?
We can't do anything unless one of the other two have/ get a power.

Which is why we should only tell Chris.
Considering her reaction to the black vans thing earlier she will think us a nut.

>>511690
Don't
She is just outside the room, she will hear you yelling this and it is rather shallow to reduce her to just "hot chick".
