As long as you keep those glasses on, you can't die. Seriously, the only time people who wear them die is when they aren't wearing them.

So clearly, the render the wearer immortal.

That aside, try pushing the boxes over to scatter the fire so you can get in.

As Joshua turned to leave, a loud bang followed by a *fwoosh* and a sudden wave of heat made him cringe. When he looked back, the door had been ripped from its hinges and laid smoking on the ground. As he watched in horror, a man shambled out of the doorway, his clothes smoldering but his body untouched by the fire.

>That is some uncanny valley shit! What should I do? Should I help him?

>Yeah, fuck this shit, I'm fucking out of- hergerk!

Joshua's retreat was interrupted by an immense pressure around his chest, knocking the wind out of him and stopping him in his tracks. Slowly his body lifted off the ground and he rotated to face the man in the doorway. The man's unearthly gaze cut right through him, and a shiver of terror went through Josh's spine.

"Come" the man stated simply, turning to re-enter the flames. The tug on Joshua's chest began compelling him forward.

"Wait," Joshua managed to croak. "Just wait!"

The man stopped and looked at Joshua, as though expecting something.

>V-voices, you've gotta help me! What can I ask or say to get out of this?!

"What the hell are you talking about?! I came here to try and save you from the fire and this is how you repay me?!"

The man stood undeterred, unflinching. He stepped backwards into the raging inferno even as his otherworldly voice continued assaulting Josh's ears. "Greed and morbid curiosity guided your feet, but your presence here was ordained from the beginning of time. Your questions have been noted, but in the end they matter very little, for you will receive the ultimate answer."

"It is time you learned the name of our master."

Joshua floated closer to the building's doorway, the heat quickly becoming unbearable. The crackling of the fire taunted him and tongues of flame leapt out as though eager to taste him. He struggled in his invisible hold, clawing at his chest in a futile effort to remove the unseen force.

Alright, relax.

We have seen plenty of people/entities/collectives with a pre-ordained destiny.

You've played video games before, right? Think of it as a cut-scene. You can't do anything, but odds are good that the fire will not kill you. Just relax, and try to pay attention. These destiny reveal moments seem to always have a small detail or two that get missed that somehow end up being incredibly important later.

If it helps, we have worked with several others without a destiny, and trust me, they seem to end up getting hurt A LOT more than the ones with destinies and such.

This.. probably wasn't our fault? I mean the it hurts was..

It's not supposed to hurt after the skin fails, what is this... that bodes worse than anything else, the gratuitous pain.

We, uh... we need to be extra careful with Squirrel.
>>

So... Why did you decide to do this? To turn an epic, out of no where JUST AS PLANNED thing like Squirrel Quest, and completely invalidate it with weird magic and all this bullshit? Squirrel Quest's ending was a great twist, ending with the guy who broke us dying by our hands. Why did you bring him back as some sort of Chzo-esque Terminator?

You broke something beautiful.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. There was so much occult shit in that house it seemed like a natural development. You don't have to read it if you find it that offensive.

Anyway, for the rest of you, Josh's story isn't over. I guess this sorta ruins the cliffhanger, but oh well. He'll be back on Monday.

That's fine. I was going to have it split off anyway, and definitely intend to continue on a new thread.

I certainly didn't mean to tarnish a cherished quest for ya'll. I was thinking each fragment found could be a different genre quest, but I can see that idea wasn't as easily accepted as I had imagined.

I wouldn't worry about it. SquirrelQuest is a spinoffquest after all. I agree that anyone should be able to do what they will from here on. I enjoyed your prologue

I believe part of the problem is that the first several updates of the quest essentially invalidate the entirity of the quest that came before it. I think that's part of why the reaction has been the way it has been.

I do think the reaction's been a bit... strong, though. I don't want to discourage potential questers. The more the merrier, really.

I'd advocate moving this to its own thread if you'd like to continue it. Otherwise, it might be nice to have some more things in the horror genre.

Oh, I thought you were joking.

Okay look, here's the way I pictured it. The guy died in the same place as a bunch of magical objects were destroyed. The destruction released the Ancient Evil in a Can which temporarily possessed the guy's body. The guy's not alive, he's not the BBEG, he's certainly not a Chzo-Terminator, and he won't even be back in this quest. I dunno if that helps clear up anything or not.
>>
No. 541919 ID: 2cbe3e

As I said before, SquirrelQuest was a spinoff of a joke quest. I don't think people should be worried about its' continuity being sullied.
