So. I don't really have a PLAN, per se. Technically this is a celebration of Ahura, the Unconquered Sun, as he defeats the forces of darkness and returns light to the land. A bit more ACCURATELY, it's the point in the synodic period where the planet's axis is maximally tilted away from our star. I mean, I've met some of those forces of darkness and none of them are able to stop a planet in its tracks, or extinguish a star. Now, SYMBOLICALLY, there's this whole, "tied to the land, season of earth's sleep approaches" thing and a ritual with some fire and blood and a sickle and evergreen. Geomancy and the whole Fisher King thing is kind of a pain in the ass. On the other hand, the other solstice is worth the wait.

Nevermind. Fireflies are cheap, and you can change some leaves to red to get the holiday theme going.

Make Captain Preparation less grumpy by festooning him with sparkles and tinsel.

Definitely decorate Captain Preparation. That guy looks grouchy and needs some festive cheer!

IT'S TIME TO MAKE SOME GIANT-ASS FIREFLIES, MY STRIPEY CHUM.

Give Diyil some fingers or bonus arms or tentacles or a harness made of vines so she can hang decorations all willy nilly.

And build a big bonfire somewhere. Those are always festive.

Yes, Sinan is my would-be assassin. He's not proven much more competent at anything else, except complaining. He's not even very decorative.

So just how giant of spiders are you talking about?

I mean, this place is big. Really big.

Party guests? Well, I hadn't exactly planned on a party but what the hell. Who exactly are you hoping to invite? There's a bunch of angry gnolls to the south, angry lions to the east, cowed mongeese scattered here and there, and a bustling city about 30 leagues downriver to the west. I mean, we're a little short on time here. I could probably get one invite out with Diyil. Unless you a have a better plan?


So now I have a blue bug. It's not really a proper firefly but, you know. Blue flame is about twice the temperature of the nice red glow I had on the other one. Give this an actual flame and it's likely to set things on fire. Or explode. Probably both.

Apparently you had me confused for someone that thinks it's okay to make a new form of life created only to explode. All life is sacred, spirit. Especially when I make it.

That "beacon to attract guests" thing might not work out so great. I've spent a lot of time and effort teaching the locals that trespassing is harshly punished. I'll just attach some invitations to these bugs, then head up and start the bonfire.
