Dear Diary,

I’m fed up with the stupid village so I’m running away. I’m gonna be an overlord, see if they’ll laugh then. But um diary, when I told you about me wanting to be an overlord a long time ago. Didja remember what I was thinking of learning and what not to pay attention to so much?

HITTING PEOPLE WITH SHARP POINTY THINGS?
BLOWING THINGS UP?
OTHER STUFF?
>>
No. 566226 ID: 88960e

"Other stuff?", definitely.
>>
No. 566228 ID: 9ddf68

other stuff sounds fun and versatile but blowing things up is always fun. I'd be happy with either.
>>
No. 566229 ID: d0864b

"Other stuff" seems good to focus on, yes. I suppose you can put "hitting people with sharp pointy things" on the backburner. It's often fairly easy to get other people to do that for you, later on.

Dear Author,

I recall you talking about working with your buddies, to form an Overlord Counsel. You had planned on making explosions in peoples faces, while your "bestest bud" had expressed his want to work with chemicals to torture the villagers. You hadn't mentioned what the others planned, though.

I shall go with other stuff, potions and other such things are always so much fun.

Yeah diary, I do want to make explosions in peoples faces, but learning that other stuff seems a lot more interesting, ever since my “bestest bud” told me a lot of interesting ways chemical can torture stupid villagers. Pity we haven’t been able speak to each other in so long. It would have been nice to talk to others...

But anyway what did I learn again? It was so much I need a few pointers...

OTHER STUFF HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS THE MAIN ABILITY TO FOCUS STUDY ON, HITTING STUFF WITH POINTY THINGS HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO BE THE DEFICIENT ABILITY TO BE STUDIED BLASTING THINGS HAS BEEN RENDERED NEUTRAL YOU HAVE 128 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE ACROSS COMBAT, MAGIC AND SKILL ABILITIES. Nice. I got to render specific influence
Fields of study included Grade Three Poisons and Grade Four Chemical Chain Reactions/Chemistry. (7/128)
Magic was trained to the tenth degree, while Combat only to the third. (+13; 20/128)
Politics and Black Market Expertise were trained to Grade Five, Languages to Grade Three, and Conversation to Grade Four. (+17; 37/128) You trained only slightly (1) in the use of scapegoats, though you spent decent time studying stealth (3) and bluffing (4). (+8; 45/128)
Aside from the Black Market, you seemed indifferent to mercantile (3) though you did spend a bit of effort in learning to intimidate and seduce (4+4). (+11; 56/128)
To help you out in a variety of situations, you spent a good deal of time learning to craft things (5), and had even become a decent apprentice at a forge (4). (+9; 65/128) As a bit of additional cover, you know a small bit of Medicines (2) and Architecture (3), as well as some decent understanding of Distillation (4) and Brewing (3). (+12; 77/128)
In the event that an escape is required, you have minimal training in Riding (1), Sailing (1), and even taming (2), though you acquired a grand knowledge of lockpicking (5) and even locksmithing itself (4). (+13; 90/128) Your knowledge of Mathmatics is broad (5), as is your understanding of Logistics (4). (+9; 99/128)
As offensive backup to your chemical training, you have studied Archery (5) and Ballistics (5), with an almost as extensive training in Artillery (4). (+14; 113/128)

I regret to note that I have lost track of the other fifteen grades of training were spent on.

I forgot to mention this because you got ahead of me but Magic skills cost 3 points per level of training and Combat costs five.

(5) in medical practices, you know advance first aid and could probably be considered a amateur surgeon if someone needed. Because of your interest in all things medical you found another passion of your, poison (5). The idea of something as small as a single drop could drop even the biggest of creatures was just something you couldn't help but amazed by. And through your study of poisons you branched off into other branches of alchemy and chemistry (5)(5). Because of your interest in these topics you mathematics (4) was a must you picked upped on the way when measuring all your chemical and medical equipment. while your parents were happy to see there child be so good at all his academical pursuits your grandpa felt you where to soft and always took you trips into the woods to toughen you up. He tough you trapping ([4] works both in setting traps and disarming), Tracking (4), fishing (3), forging/herbology (5) and tough you how to fight. You never did like the fighting lessons because of how much effort you had to put into when so many other things came so much easier but your grandpa was a stubborn old bastard and powered through your complaints and tough you knife fighting (skill 4 [20 points]) which you did best at since you had a steady hand from your medical studies. He also taught you to a lesser extent how to use a bow (3 [15 points]) and what he called improvising by teaching you who to make a simple spear by sharpening a stick for if you ever needed to get some kind of weapon to protect yourself (polearms 1 [5 points])

Later your parents sent you to a special school to help you in your academical pursuits. while the school mostly specialize in magic you found more interests in engineering (5) and crafting (5) and you were notorious around campus for always building odd little things around the school. Since you actually hang around others here you picked up a few social skills like bluffing(4), conversation(3), and seduction (3). Since it was primarily a magic school you did pick up a few tricks mostly for convinces sake like scrying (2 [6 points]) to find the things you misplace, fire (1 [3 points]) to help with your chemical and academical research, and invisibility (3 [9 points]) for when you had to sneak out to get more supplies since the school only gave each student so much supplies for research each week. this also help your sneak (5) and lockpicking (3) since they did have some locks to prevent students from doing what you did. If I recall correctly though you said you where growing tired fast of being in such a boring environment every day, probably thanks to your grandpa, but you did say you where getting one of your friends to teach you how to ride (2) for when you finally felt you wanted to leave this place.

Dear Diary, I can remember a lot of what I’ve learned ever since you’ve given me reminders, thanks to my parents, (and my no good grandfather) I’ve learned things like so

“Other Things”- I guess I should at least thank my parents for sending me to school, I learned a lot more than what they actually taught in the classrooms, especially if I wanted to learn something useful. Knowing where to buy stuff for the most... frowned upon things helps as well as how to talk to those sort of people. I learned most of what I know of medicine at home, and funny how it’s useful knowing how people are put together helps so much in finding out how to take them apart, not that I know anything about that... Making things is more of my hobby anyway. So I know how to make medicine both from planets and mineral compounds, and how badly it goes when you put a little too much or too little... In any case at least grandfather taught me something as relaxing as fishing.
Herbology- Master

Crafting- Master
Advanced First Aid- Master
Mathematics- Expert
Alchemy- Master
Stealth- Master

Foraging- Master

“Blowing Stuff”- Plus the magic training was useful especially for sneaking out and finding the stuff I needed, pity I can only look for or at things I’ve actually seen before. Fire magic was interesting, only can make a few sparks though useful for when I need a fire for brewing and stuff.
Fire Magic- Noob
Scrying Magic- Trained
Invisibility- Average

I’m not any good with hitting people, grandfather always hated that, saying I’m quite weak. Well at least I’m good with stabbing, very painfully.
“Hitting People”-
Knives- Mastery
Polearms- Noob
Archery- Noob
Ballistics- Noob

Also I’ve learned some magic spells as well but I’ve got no actual formal training in them, sadly.

Spells
Create Sparks- Very tiny, can set stuff aflame but that’s about it
Scrying Mirror- Can only look at stuff I’ve seen before, no sound sadly
Invisibility- Have to focus on this or it’ll fade

So here I am outside this cave that the local villages have said that they’ve been having monster problems. So the thing is, get in, knock off as many monsters as possible, profit, start getting supplies to be the Overlord. There’s the front entrance and it looks unguarded. People weren’t helpful in saying what kind of monsters are in there. So diary how should I go about getting in? Or should I do something different first?

What I have? Well the things I’ve managed to carry away when I left were these things Diary.

In terms of money I’ve got 72 Silver Coins and whole 5 Gold Coins!
In the Satchel I carry there’s
A first aid kit
Plus 6 doses of willow tea for headaches
3 doses of yarrow extract for bleeding
A Hand mirror
An Abacus
4 lock picks
Some Soap
Two days worth of food three meals each
A nice blanket and pillow and
15 feet of rope

I’m also carrying
One Dose of Black Lotus Poison (Basically diary one touch of this and I can be sure they’re dead need gloves to use it though better safe than sorry)
2 Doses of Essence of Ivory Snakeroot (Will make them lose their stomachs, for a long time...)
2 Doses of Oil of Vitriol (Keep AWAY from the knives and stand way back when you use it)
4 Doses of Lovable Rogue’s Helpmate (I don’t know why my Uncles Rodrick and Samuel ask for this every two weeks, I mean what could they do with something that paralyzes the body and makes it suggestible?)
3 Doses of Lavender’s Kiss (Nighty night but takes a while to work, remind me diary to NOT breathe it in)
And 4 knives, 3 are good enough for regular fighting... though the last one, it seems to have some trace of poison all the time no matter how many times I clean it. Maybe leaving all those poisons on it for days at a time wasn’t a good idea.

>>566736
Well diary, part of coming here was to find out what monsters are here in the first place. Local village people look but don’t observe... If I want to talk and maybe get some minions, well there’s stupid and then there’s stupid

Oh dear. It would seem your chemicals, poisons, magic, and knife expertise have all combined. Maybe some herbalogy too. I did not know this was possible.

Dear Author, I'm afraid I don't recognize what just happened. Did the knife extend into the ogre's head, and melt him through the chemical composition upon the blade's tip? Did it fire a bolt of poisonous essence?

Either way, as stupid and violent as an ogre may typically be, Kobolds are often said to be intelligent. I know you said trying to make it a minion was a stupid idea, but perhaps he would be willing to offer you some assistance for killing the ogre... Though that may involve having to sheath or holster the dagger, depending on where upon your body you store it.

Dear Author,

The Kobold does not seem fully certain what to do just yet. I would suggest moving away from the ogre, it is up to you whether you go deeper in or head back to the entrance. Gesture for the Kobold to come with you, but keep an eye on him.

Once you're away from the stench of melted ogre, take a seat and get some fresh air. You'll be able to think a bit better then, and can more fluently talk with the Kobold. It would be a good chance to ask if he is alright, or if he has any friends who need help as well. Just because he's your slave doesn't mean you don't care about his well-being, at least for the time being. Until you get more minions, slaves, or assistants, you'll need what you can get.

ask if his village is down river or up river from this spot? if it's up river (the opposite way the water is flowing) it won't effect him or his village in the slightest, if it's down river then this won't even reach the ogre camp anyways since the bold's camp and the ogre's camp are in opposite directions and we'd simply wast poison.

Dear Author, keep in mind, we do want the Kobolds help. If we must poison the water supply, we must also ready enough antidote for the whole Kobold population. That wouldn't be very cost effective, unless a little antidote goes a long way.

See if there's anything you can do about the ogre corpse. If there are any portions that look untainted, you can study it to see if there's anything you could do that would harm ogres, but not Kobolds; this may also require knowledge of Kobold blood, you could always check with the village for both a sample of their blood and the ogre's, if necessary.

If their biologies are too similar to do so, at least you'll be able to learn more options in the progress.

Kobold: "Ah no, we're upstream to the ogres but please don't put things in the water"

>>567698
Also Diary it might take a while, it all depends on what poison I'm using" I take a stick and poke at the dead ogre, the green stuff smells weird, almost sweet or was it sour? It looks like the ogre is minerel life. There are several poisons that only affect them since kobolds are fleshy tissue. But I took some ogre flesh, used some poison handling clothes to do it, sad that I have to leave it here. I've got a bottle for it. So I could do more research on kobolds and ogres to see if poisoning the river would work or I could try something like directly offing the ogres but that's scary or we could help the kobolds in fighting their war. The kobold doesn't seem to want my things in the water, and ogres are big. What to, diary?

well they seem really against this poison the river thing so lets see what our other options are first, I mean this was simply the first thing that came up and we really haven't look at anything else yet so lets go exploring a bit, if we run into trouble we can always just go invisible and then poison backstab the hell out of any threats. Plus if you're thinking of moving in then you're also getting the lay of the land down.

Dear Author, this line's suggestion to pay a visit to the Kobold's village still stands. More than just gathering information on the Kobolds, you can potentially find a way to work the critters themselves into the plan, perhaps some method of forming them into an army or something.

“Kay then, take me to your camp!”

Kobold:“Wha but, but”

“Don’t you want the ogres out? If you don’t want me to drug the water I need to find out what else you don’t want me to do.”

Kobold: “I just can’t do that!”

“Why not?”

Kobold: “Because, because....”

“So you don’t have a reason to not take me there and I can help you with your ogre problem.”

Kobold: “Okay...”

Kobold: "So here it is our camp."

"Very big for a camp. How many kobolds are there here?"

Kobold: "I can't tell you that..."

It's a very big cave diary but now the kobold after taking me here doesn't want to talk much now

"So how do you want me to help you with your ogre problem. Who should I talk to?"

Kobold: "Um the camp guards..."

So what about it diary? Should I go look for these camp guards? Press this kobold for more info? Maybe get this kobold to do more than he has already?

bring the bold with you to the guards. say you don't know where they are so you need a guide.

Yes, although this Kobold seems hesitant about showing his trust in you to his comrades, you do certainly want to appear to be at least somewhat trusted. His presence will help alleviate the reactions of the guards, most likely.

well we're mostly just trying to see what we have to work with truth be told but we still have the backup plan of poisoning the river should we run out of options. Besides if things get bad we can always just go invisible and scram so if we can get some resources/allies from these guys I say we should at least try it out.

"Well take me to the kobold who leads the guards then."

Kobold: "Wah but.."

"I have to talk to somebody who knows what they are doing. Then again I could go with the water plan."

Kobold: "Noo! Okay I'll take you."

So diary the kobold took me through the camp. There were some kobolds looking at us but I think since this kobold was a guard, there wasn't anybody asking questions. Then we saw a bigger kobold.

Bigger Kobold:"Reepus what in Chee are you doing? You're supposed to be the border fork! Who are you bringing in here!?"

Reepus: "Commander Blanck! Ummm this here saved me from an ogre attack. He wants to help take care of the ogres for us but he wants to talk to somebody important or else he's going to mess up the water!"

The kobold called Blanck looks serious and glares at me diary, but I just make sure my knives are in reach. It takes a while but he nods.

Commander Blanck:"Alright you, I'll take you to the camp chief. You can talk there, but one wrong step from you will get one sharp thrust from me!"

So I follow Blanck diary, through the camp caverns, the kobold makes sure to keep an eye on me. Still I don't have Master Stealth for nothing so it's hard for him to hear me walk. He has to keep looking back at me every few seconds. Finally we go in a cave that looks cleaner and well lit. More nice things in it too.

Commander Blanck: "Chief Erelee, Reepus brought back someone. Saved him from one of those rockheads." He looked at me sideways. "Said he wants to help us with our boulder problem."

This chief doesn't look too trusting.

Chief Erelee: "Okay... Who are you? First of all and why are you here? I don't think that somebody would come all the way here to get in the middle of a war between what 'people' call monsters."

What should I say Diary? Oh diary, I know I'm not that all good with keeping things straight especially my name since I don't use it all that much recently. What was I named again?

simple, you need help with something. the war is just an opportunity. you can pay for their help by getting rid of the ogres, simple as that.

Eh, no need to tell them we're planning on setting up shop here. Just say we were planning to explore the cave to see what we could see but stumbled onto this whole war thing, and having giants swinging clubs at you while trying to explore does make exploring more difficult so if we can deal with this sooner rather then later that means we get to explore sooner rather then later. That and if the giants came this far who's to say they won't leave the cave and attack our home next. The way I see it we're probably never going to be in a better position to deal with this problem so we might as well deal with it now instead of waiting for it to come around and bit me in the ass later.(they don't trust you so might as well make this sound a little selfish so they'll be more likely to believe us)

Oh and your name is Justin. Seriously author you need to remember these things, remember the last time you lost us and forgot where you lived. It's what finally lead to your parents letting your grandpa take you out on his many camping trips.

Dear Author, something along the following lines should work. "You may be referred to as monsters by some people, but it is obvious you are civilized. I am trying to set it up so that races like you Kobolds can be recognized as people, too, but I will need your help." Understand, that if they agree to help you, it will mean they are one of your armies--An army who deserves to be treated with fear and respect. This is close enough to being people. "I was hoping that if I helped you with the ogre problem, you'd join me, or at least offer me some help. But... Even if you cannot help me, I'm sure I'll be able to get something useful from the ogre camp once they're defeated."
Yes, you definitely do want the Kobold's help, especially for them to join with you, but you need them to feel they can trust you more for that. Now that you're at their leader, you can put the idea that you don't need them to repay you so they'll trust you more.

Actually, this may be a good idea. Still, compliment them on how they seem to be civilized enough that they should be considered people, too.

“I’m Justin! Here because I wanted to see what was in this cave but got caught up in this war of yours. And well ogres going around smashing things ends up with people coming in to kill everyone anyway. And well I’d like to put a stop to that because people are wondering outside who is destroying their buildings. ”

The chief looks at me warily diary but seems to approve. "Alright, we'll have you helping us because we've been in a stalemate for several days now." The chief points to a table with some sort of leather and some stones on it. "This is our current situation."

Diary what sort of questions should I ask or should I just move onto the ogres, ask for some sort of assistance or what?
>>
No. 569853 ID: 53ba34

do you have any poisons you KNOW will kill ogres really fast? offer to add it to some of their spears, this will allow the ones using those spears to simply hit anywhere on the ogre's body and still kill it, no need to get any weak spot hits. drawing blood on it's ankle would be enough.
>>
No. 569860 ID: e9e331

well if I'm reading this right the kobolds (the ones in the top left right?) have numbers on there side and since they've been here longer are better entrenched then the ogres who only just set up shop so aren't as well entrenched and since they've set up camp in a small cavern then the kobolds then I'm guessing they have less numbers on there side as well. But they're ogres so what they lack in numbers they make up in pure brute strength. this map doesn't really give much information so ask what they know about ogre troop movement, where they'd keep the food supplies (still hoping to poison something at some point), hell if we have some acids on us and this cave has the right type of rocks we could maybe cause a cave in and trap the ogres.

Knowing Ogres, they could probably just eat the rocks or something. A cavein would not help much.
Figuring out a venom that would work on the ogres but be (mostly) harmless to the Kobolds would certainly be a good idea. You don't want to do all the work, after all.

Well after much research, a lot of the poisons that would kill an ogre stone dead, well they target organics as well. There is one idea you gave me diary. Coating the kobolds' weapons with poison and one that can give a quick kill with a small dose. Ogres have a brain with lots of this metalish thing called silicon. I've read that if this brain gets exposed to air then the ogre's brain doesn't work and it dies. Do you think this would be the best poison to use?

Anyway diary I asked them more about the map and the lines and circles, they say are the paths and caves in this place. The kobolds are one the upper left and the ogres on the bottom right, the big stones equal ten people and the little ones a single person. Mostly it has been a small group of ogres that come in and try to kill the kobolds. The kobolds have been keeping them away with traps and hiding, but they say it won't be long before the ogres as dumb as they are would find the kobolds.

So should I give poisons to the kobolds? Attack the ogres with something else or try to find out more?

(Well I'm back, had to take a break due to school and searching for work but now I have the time to get back to this quest. Sorry for the wait)

hold back on the poison for now. I'd like us to get to a point were we can be sure that the kobolds simply won't stab us in the back as soon as we deal with there ogre problem. see if you can't get a small group or hell even just a guide to help you make your way to the ogre base camp just so we can get a better idea on what we're up against. we can turn invisible so I'm not to worried about being spotted.
