2 nations are at war: The kingdom of vakio and the Tuana empire. Are you a knight, a legionary or a mercenary? If you're a mercenary, for wich side do you work for?

What is your background?
1. you used to work for a traveling circus. During your time there, an old warrior taught you how to use a sword. After the circus disbanded, you sought to hone your skills and took up mercenary work. You are a fast and charismatic performer.

2. Your father used to work as a mercenary and you inherited his equipment after his murder. He taught you how to shoot and military tactics. You fight from afar and have a keen mind and good tactical knowledge

3.Your family were farmers. After bandits burned your home down and killed your parents, you were forced to seek other ways of living. You took everything salvageable, an axe, a knife and some tools. You are good at crafting, smithing, woodworking and cooking, you have a fait bit of muscle but your fighting skill is lacking.

You are Rickert Legremont, a mercenary looking to live off of the oncoming war. You stand in front of the temple, looking at the bazaar unfolding before it. People are selling and buying almost like there wont be war beyond the lake soon. But you guess thats what trade cities are like.

How poor are we, should we be looking for unattended loot to filch?

You walk through the stalls selling all kinds of objects bland and exotic, from near and afar. Your money is running low and will only be enough food for 1 more day. Merchants travel trough the nearby nations and will propably have information on the oncoming war. Will you:
[Ask about the Vakio kingdom]
[Ask about the Tuana empire]
[Ask about the trade city]
[Something else?]

Ask about all three: We need to know how close the war is and merchants travel. We also need a job and signing up for either side in a war where people will be organized for the purpose of killing each other is a last resort.

The trade city sits on top of a dam. The warring nations have settled camps on the shore of the dried river. They don't wander close to the trad city because many larger nations are allied with the city. The merchants wont trade directly with the war camps, Some travel around the mountains directly to the kingdoms capital while some take the river to the empire. The forest and the mountains are filled with bandits. It seems like the war will start any day now. There is no work in the trade city, everyone is either too poor to afford your services or rich enough to afford expert bodyguards.

It looks like someone heard you asking questions and is following you now. Hes avoiding you and stays just outside of your vision.
Will you confront him, surprise him or seek for help?

Double-check if they're alone first. Surprise them if you're sure they're alone. If they had honest intentions they would openly speak to you instead of following you.

You try checking if there are any other people and move your hand back so you can grab the crossbow better, but the figure notices and absconds. You didn't see anyone else with them.

Well, go sit somewhere public then, maybe they are someone with a dubiously-legitimate business proposal, maybe they're a pickpocket, and maybe they're a spy or recruiter out to do nasty things to us.
