It's always there. Everyone is always aware of its presence. It lurks at the edge of one's conscious mind, tugging at the thoughts every now and again.

What is The Wall? Nobody seems to know. It's been there for as long as anyone remembers. No one is quite sure what it does, either.

But anyone who's been to it and looked over gives the consistent description of green grass and colorful flowers on the other side, a stark contrast to the constant ice and know trapped within. Some have escaped its boundary, but they are never heard from again.

Some really do want to go and see the edge. Syd Barrett is no exception. In fact, that's what he's standing in the middle of the room and thinking about. The nagging of a calling voice finally breaks in, though.

"Syd! Syd, open up! Come on!"

The voice is familiar. But, you hear a lot of familiar voices, sometimes ones that aren't there. If Syd wanted, he could probably check the window on the door or something. Then again, paranoia is a bit of a problem for him.

Maybe they're never heard from again because they don't come back, if the ice you live in kinda sucks.
Go ahead and check the door.

Syd hasn't really done much today anyway. He feels like he could be "brave". He starts toward the door and suddenly the knocking stops. What?
The deer is silent, and gets startled when it begins again, much louder than before.

It's starting to feel a little bit threatening. What if there was someone he didn't want to meet there?

Syd goes over to the door, and just as he's about to open it-

"Syd, mate! If you hear knocking, open the door! I think I almost froze to death out there!"

This somewhat irked fox is Roger Waters, Syd's closest friend (and that guy in the picture). It seems he got bored with waiting outside, and decided to enter the deer's house of his own accord. After finishing his rant and huffing, Roger stomps past Syd toward the couch, plopping down and grumbling.

Rude. Syd would say something to him about his actions, but he just doesn't talk much, and Roger does this all the time anyway. The deer wonders if Roger might be hungry. It's a polite thing to offer him something, but sitting down might help our protagonist calm down after that surprise.

Syd doesn't have time to say or do anything. It's a bit annoying, as Barrett has just seen his companions soaking wet pawprints on the floor. Before the deer can open his mouth, Roger has already started talking about someone who climbed over The Wall and escaped

It's something that's been happening more and more frequently. A lot of the inhabitants of the area seem to believe it's a negative thing, like what lies beyond The Wall will drive the one who sees it mad.

Roger asks Syd if he would escape given the opportunity. His eyes widen as the deer nods.

"What the bloody 'ell would you want to do that for?"

"...It's different out there. I believe it's better." After finishing the tiny answer, the deer goes silent again.

Syd starts to tell Roger why he is wrong, as he tightens his scarf around his neck, as Roger begins to argue and try and counter his friend's points.

"Why has no one come back??? If it's so perfect, why has no one come back to tell us about it?"

"Maybe they can't, Roger! Maybe there's some.. some magic barrier outside.. or.. they just.. don't want to! Why would anyone want to come back here?!"

"Where are you going? Syd! Tell me!"

"To The Wall!" The deer responds loudly, before storming out the door. Roger immediately hurries behind him. No way he's going there alone.

"We could go either way... The Wall surrounds the town completely.."

The road Syd and Roger are standing on goes East and West. The paths vary greatly.

The East road goes through the part of town that nobody really likes. It's got all the bars and clubs and questionable stores.

The West road leads through the neighborhood and to the generally populated part of town. There are people out, and the stores are all open.
>>
No. 646711 ID: 587000

The logical thing to do would be to go West. But if nobody likes the East side of town, that probably means there would be less people to frolic around you asking where ever you were going...then again, you might meet people who may offer to join your expedition! maybe the West?

West it is.

Before Syd and Roger can get very far, they hear and old voice call their name. Turning around, they see it's an old Billy Goat named Eugene. He's lived in Syd's neighborhood for 80 years.
He's simply standing there, using his axe as a cane.

Yes?
>>
No. 646728 ID: 587000

Here's the plan: steal the axe, cut his head off so he can't react, then run. You now have a liable reason to go beyond the wall. It's the perfect plan.
>>
No. 646865 ID: b19c9a

I say we formulate a plan to not just escape...but DESTROY a portion of the wall. That way we can SEE what's on the other side BEFORE we leave.

Eugene asks the duo where they're going. This is a very spur of the moment thing and the two have no idea how to answer!

Eugene is very old, so giving him some vague reply might work, but some old people are sharp as a tack. Syd and Roger could just tell him that they're going to The Wall, but who knows how he would react?

Getting his axe is a goal. It might be helpful when they arrive at the wall, maybe in destroying part of it. Perhaps they could give an answer that might include a reason to have him give it to the two, or they could just ask to borrow it.

Syd and Roger stand there a little awkwardly, both trying to think of an answer. What do they tell Eugene?
>>

Roger ignores Eugene's question and asks how he's doing, and if there's any possible way he and Syd can borrow the axe.

Eugene snaps back that he asked a question and repeats himself, once more inquiring about where the deer and fox are headed. It doesn't seem like the goat is going to talk to the two until he gets an answer.

Why are old people always so persistent? Well, you could be honest. If you lied and he found out about it, I don't think he'd be particularly jolly.

Roger politely explains that they're headed to the shops to buy some tools. He leaves out what their purpose will be, instead asking if Eugene is feeling alright today.

The goat says he's feeling fine, thank you for asking. He then questions why they need to borrow his axe when they could simply buy one.

Roger stammers out that the two figured Eugine's axe would be stronger than one from the shops. Everything is made in foreign places now, and that substantially lowers the quality of products. Isn't that right, Syd? Syd?

The deer is staring in the other direction, a look of shock on his face. Roger and Eugene turn to see what he's looking at. In a moment, their faces resemble his.

Syd immediately rushes forward, ignoring Roger and Eugene's stillness. He runs over to the girl and crouches next to her, asking if she can talk or see. She clearly isn't alright. Syd looks over his shoulder, yelling at Roger to call 911.

Maybe she can be saved. In the meantime, Syd tries to find a way to help.
