after walking a small distance you are come upon a great black monolith that cuts through the forest, this is where you've tracked the beast.
There seems to be no other entrances to the tower and this likely be your final battle with the Hound.

Actually that likely isn't as much of an issue as it seems at first glance. In normal design philosophy (which to be fair Rez might not follow), mass-fight bosses tend to go more for AoE or minion spamming than high single target damage, since in the intended boss-vs-hunderds format you generally want to provide a survivable challenge to lots of players rather than an impossible challenge to a few members of the hundreds at a time.

But whether or not that is the case, its time to apply any relevant buffs and head in.

you wander through a series of twisting corridors until you come to a balcony.

from the balcony you can see the Black Hound, laying in a pool of its own blood covered in dozens of weapons.

You know from experience this beast is very much alive, despite its injury.
