You know how in dreams everything feels so real, and then you have these little moments you can remind yourself it is only a dream? I keep having the reverse problem. I'll be going about my day and it all feels so much like I'm dreaming, I keep having to remind myself it is all real. It's so odd. It doesn't help that the strangest things have been happening.

>Have you tried pinching yourself

Ow! Yeah, still here. Still real.

>Like what?

Well… I mean, it seemed like just coincidence at first, just odd happenstance. I really wanted to go to my favorite Chinese place, and suddenly a friend is paying me money I didn’t know he owed me and I found a $20 on the ground. I was running late for the bus, like really late, and it showed up just a few minutes after I got there. I wanted it to cool down so I could go to the park and the weather the next day was perfect. I know it sounds silly, but I just can’t shake the thought. There’s also been these… dreams. Nightmares, really. I know I’m asleep, but it feels so real, and sometimes I’ll be absolutely sure I recognize someone in my dream, but I know that I don’t know them, or it will be someone I know, but they don’t look like themselves. It’s so hard to wake up from them.
The worst ones are these ones where something will happen, like I’ll see someone get hit while crossing the road, and a few days later this… it’s like a glitch. I’ll be seeing the same person crossing the road and a car will be coming, they get hit, but then… nothing. No car, no accident. It’s all exactly like in the dream, every detail, but then it doesn’t happen at all.

>Well, how do you know it is real, then?

Well, umm... I mean, I hope it's real? It... It has to be real. I can hurt, I don't wake up, it's real. Don't be silly.

You could be trapped in a simulation.

Your best bet is to try to find other people like yourself who seem to be graced by constant good fortune and/or seem to be having the same existential crisis.
Another option is to find a location or series of actions that reliably glitches your surroundings, and research the phenomenon.

You're the one who raised the point you can't trust your perceptions. Questioning the world around you isn't silly, it's the logical next step.

Simulation? Oh man, this is… Look, these are interesting ideas, but this whole thing about stuff not being real it’s really creeping me out. I don’t know if I can deal with that kind of possibility. I-

The phone on the desk beeps an alert, interrupting her train of thought.

“Hey, I need you to come in. NOW”

Oh great. Just what I need, a last minute call into work. Should I go? I don’t think I can deal with hunting these… glitches right now.

Make an excuse. If you're dreaming, it's not like this will matter.
