You're floating. Your eyes are closed and you're floating. All around you is warm fluid, and you are comfortable. You can occasionally hear noises, a mechanical whir or the muffled tapping of clawed feet on tile, but you ignore it. Somewhere, deep in your head, there are vague memories. Tortures beyond anything you could imagine. Worse things than even the most depraved things people would be willing to do to one another. But they're far away, so far that you don't think you could remember them fully if you wanted to...

And you really don't want to.

There's some muttering, muffled by the fluid, that you can't quite understand. Something about "unexpected" and "signs of resistance". Your eyes open a crack, your vision unhampered by the fluid surrounding you. It is thin and red, like watered-down blood, and black walls surround you on all sides. Above you lies a mostly-opaque glass lid, and through it you can see a shadowy figure approach. It holds a syringe, and it seems to be preparing to inject something into you.

Dimly, you realize the needle is a sign of danger, but you're too drowsy and content to do anything about it. But just as the figure reaches for the handle, you hear a new noise. An alarm. It's dulled by the walls surrounding you and the fluid, but you can tell.

There is a loud bang, and the figure approaching you turns around before another bang sounds off and the glass lid is covered in a splatter of liquid. You hear the thud of the figure above you hitting the ground, and a few more bangs and thuds as more unseen people fall.

Eventually, the alarm stops, and you can hear very muffled typing. The fluid surrounding you begins draining, and after a short time your back is touching wet ceramics as you lie in the now-empty chamber.

There are more footsteps, and you hear someone stop right next to the chamber you're in.

"Uh, hello?" A voice calls. "I'm like 99% sure you're the person I'm looking for! Name's Magdalena Weiss, official Assassin and Stealth Operative of the MAHDA! I have a few questions for you before I unlock this chamber!"

You hear the sound of what seems like someone flipping a few pages. "Uh, right! First off, please inform me of your species!"

You inform her you are a bear-kin, after a brief examination of your own body. You are incredibly muscular, your body covered in a layer of dense black fur. Several scars are visibly across your body, including a wicked-looking bite on your shoulder and a perfectly circular, stunningly white scar just over your heart.

"Neat! Perfect!" Magdalena says. "Next on the agenda! Are you a dude or a chick? Just... I dunno, feel around or something!"

You inform her you're male and that you certainly don't need to go "feeling around". You see her nod through the glass. "Alright, sweet! Now then, I'm gonna let you out of there! Normally I'd ask you your name, but I have a way better way of telling if you're who I'm looking for!

You hear the click of the door above you unlocking, and the door slides open, revealing a rather young looking bird folk girl staring down at you. Like, she looks roughly 15. She's covered in bright blue feathers, and seems to be missing an eye. She also has a pair of curly, ram-like horns and the biggest shotgun you've ever seen clutched in her hands.

"Oh, huh, they got you naked... Alright, get up! Uh, mind the needle in your arm..." She says, sliding out the IV in question and looking around. "Don't tell me those dense motherfuckers don't pack gauze here..."

You inform her, with some shock, that your arm isn't bleeding. She looks down at the spot where the needle was, and confirms your suspicions. "Oh, right, duh. Look, get up, I'll explain everything once we complete the final test, okay?"

She helps you stand, showing surprising strength for her size. You can see the room now, apparently some sort of research lab. Several blood bags rest on a rack, though one or two of them seem to have bursted. Several scientists lie dead on the ground, thin, scaly, behooved individuals with two pairs of eyes and razor-sharp teeth. They show signs of large chunks of their bodies being blasted away, presumably by Magdalena's gun. The entire room is pristine white streaked with blood, and the air reeks of disinfectant and gore. You stifle a sneeze at the odd, tingly scent.

The chamber you just left is revealed to be some sort of pod, set into the ground. Sitting by it is a large computer terminal, currently reading "SUBJECT DISCONNECTED".

She smiles at you. "Now, I'd offer you a labcoat or something to cover up, but I'm pretty sure these guys aren't your size. You could use a spare, non-gore-soaked one to dry off, if you want..."

She gestures to a rack of pristine white lab coats, and you begin towelling the strange red fluid from your fur.

You hear her load something into her shotgun and chamber the shell. "So, remember that test I was talking about? When you get the chance, just punch the wall as hard as you can, okay? Or if you want, you can ask me a few questions first. We're pretty much the only ones in this facility right now, we've got time to chat!"

You craft a makeshift loincloth from two of the labcoats. It covers you up, but that's pretty much all you can say for it.

You pull a fist back, and swing at the wall. You don't put all your force behind it, but it's definitely a hard swing. When your fist makes contact, the drywall actually cracks slightly beneath your hand, and you feel nothing beyond a non-painful impact.

You are more than a little freaked out by this turn of events.

Magdalena claps her hands, grinning widely. "Alright, awesome!" She says. You never noticed until now, but she seems to have an English accent. "You're the real deal!"

She extends a hand to you, and you tentatively take it and shake her hand. "Thomas Rimesmith! Callsign Major Tom! Good to see you again, we thought you were a goner!" She says.

>>743119
When you ask her this, her face falls. "Holy hell, what'd they do to you? You honestly don't remember?"

You shake your head.

She sighs. "Alright, well, lemme explain this." She briefly looks outside of the lab and loads another shell into her gun before beginning."

"This is the Demonic Research Facility of Count Glasya-Labolos. You were brought here a long time ago, and have apparently been kept asleep, undergoing entirely mental tortures."

"I'm Magdalena Weiss, the Assassin and Stealth Expert of the MAHDA, as I previously explained. The MAHDA is an organized group of Mortals, Angels, and sympathetic Demons devoted to overthrowing the current monarchy of Hell and returning it to its former state, which, let me tell you, is a hell of a lot better than it is right now."

"You, my friend, are Thomas Rimesmith. You are one of the best fighters in the MAHDA, and are currently extremely strong and durable thanks to a fight with Duke Eligos in which you beat him to death with your bare hands, tore out his heart, and then ate it. You were recently captured by Demonic forces and brought here, and we've spent the past few years trying to find you."

She kicks one of the deceased Demons. "As you can see, we found you."

She pauses. "Also, you have pretty much every man back at home base wrapped around your finger. Or, well, had. I feel the amnesia might get in the way of that now."

She examines one of the blood-bags critically, then glances over at you. "Yo, apparently these're yours. You mind if I crack one of these open? I'm parched..." She pauses. "And if you've got any more questions, I'd be glad to answer 'em."

Don't we need our blood to live/ be at full power? Shouldn't we top off?

I guess if there's some reason she can't have the demonic blood (like it being demonic blood, I dunno)

Were any of the personnel armed? It might be wise to pick up a weapon and as much ammo as we can strap to our loincloth.

Not as concerned with exposition until we're outta here.

>>

Hmm, seems as though I have a lot of catching up to do. I'd appreciate being fully debriefed on the structure, goals, strengths, and weaknesses of our and the enemies' organizations as well as the basic world social, political, and technological landscape. I'd also like to know as much as you can tell me about my former self. I expect you to be thorough, if there's anything you can't tell me say so and point me to where i can find out myself. But for now I believe our priority should be evacuating, unless this building is already totally secure.

You inquire as to why exactly they have samples of your blood, and whether or not you should have some of that reinjected into you.

She shrugs. "They probably wanted to see if they could get back some of Eligor or something. You offing the dude left the Demons without a pretty effective fighter."

She examines the blood packages. "Besides, this stuff's old. Like, even the newest is roughly a month. Demonic Blood, even part Demonic Blood, keeps for a while."

You shrug, and tell her she can have some.

"Thanks." Suddenly, two oversized fangs sprout from her beak and she chomps down on one of the blood bags. It's... pretty gross to watch.

>>743135
You inquire as to what she means by having every man wrapped around your finger.

She finishes consuming the blood, then grins at you. Which is disturbing with a blood-stained face. "Basically? For those men who were so inclined, let's just say you were really popular and leave it at that."

>>743178
"Yeah, no, we'll give you the rundown once we get back home, promise." She says. "We gotta get out of here, though. There's a jeep parked out front, and I'm pretty sure most of the guards are looking for me in... well, exactly the wrong place. Outside of a-"

Another Demon enters the room, this one bigger and bulkier... though it's a bit ruined by the delicate pair of spectacles it wears.

It lets out one shout before you instinctively step forward and sock it in the jaw... and promptly break the creature's neck.

"...outside of a token presence." She finishes, staring down at the dead creature. Its jaw is shattered, and its head is twisted a full 180 degrees. "Glad to see you've still got it, even with the amnesia. Glad I didn't have to invoke Amdusias' Rejection there. That shit tires me out like nothing else."

She sighs, and checks out the door. "Nobody else. Let's get going. You can take that pistol if you want, but as you can see, I think your fists are a better option."

You nod, and take the pistol anyways, just in case. The weapon is dyed a dark red in the metal, and stamped into one side is "Halphas Industries".

The both of you travel through the facility, mostly encountering more labs like the one you escaped from. You inquire as to why you're not rescuing everyone trapped here, as you can see more figures in tanks like the one you were trapped in.

"To put it bluntly, the two of us aren't enough. I mostly did this through serious stealth, and getting out all of the prisoners would hamper that aforementioned stealth. The best thing to do is come back with more firepower later."

You figure that makes sense. But you don't really like it.

Eventually, the two of you make it to the entrance to the facility. A single Demon sits at a front desk. They're leaned back in their chair, a pair of headphones currently playing what you think is techno. You think they're asleep.

For some reason, you immediately think of how vulnerable they look, sitting there, asleep on the job... wouldn't it be easy to just reach out and...?

>For those men who were so inclined, let's just say you were really popular and leave it at that.
Oh I get it, bear bear, haha. How... Ironic? Poetic? Punderful.

>kill or not?
I'd say kill him because it'd suck if he saw us just as we were leaving, but leaving a corpse right at the exit of the building potentially gives the enemy information we don't want them to have. Is he snoring? If not he might not actually be sleeping. In which case kill him. If the door has a chime or something else that could wake him up then kill him. Otherwise I don't see any reason to. If you do kill him then do it quickly and quietly, don't let him cry out or hit a button or anything. In fact it might be better to leave it to Ms. Weiss, this is presumably her specialty.
>>
No. 743240 ID: 5b1709

Okay, thought it could be something like that but didn't want to assume. That seems to imply we either have no interest in the ladies or just aren't that popular with them, but we can sort that out when we're not behind enemy lines.

We're a big angry bear man, so our stomping around is too likely to wake him. Kill him and put some effort into hiding the body. If he's as much of a slacker as he appears they'll at least assume he might have left his post and look for him in the nearby break or bathrooms before figuring we got him.

He's snoring quietly. Seems he's genuinely asleep.

However, you also notice a red light over the door out. Seems like a chime of some sort. You frown. You really didn't want to do this, but...

You glance over at Magdalena, who's currently examining the Demon's computer. Apparently they were checking their email before falling asleep. You ask her if she can kill this one.

She seems a bit surprised. "Huh, so you remember that, huh?"

You ask her what you apparently remember.

She cocks her shotgun. "Demons can't permanently kill Demons. Now, excuse me a moment..."

AMDUSIAS' REJECTION

Nothing seems to be happening. Magdalena aims her shotgun at the sleeping Demon then fires...

The shotgun makes no noise. Nor does the Demon's chair falling over, or the dead Demon hitting the ground. In fact, you realize you can't here anything at all. Not even your own breathing.

And then, like that, sound returns. Magdelena ejects the spent shell. "Peace be with you." She says, before turning to the door. "Whew, that took a lot out of me. Cmon, let's get going."

The two of you head outside, the door chiming as you leave. "Yknow, you may have amnesia, but it doesn't seem like much has changed." She says, heading to a battered jeep sitting in front of the building.

You inquire what she means.

"The way you handled that Demon. You could've just torn his head off, but then he would've been dead dead. I know you probably only did it because you figured I'd be stealthy, but..." She slides into the driver's seat. "Maybe there's just a little bit of you that recognizes that not all Demons need to die. Even the ones that aren't on our side..."

She starts the jeep, and you get into the passenger seat. She drives off, and seems to relax. "Alright. We're probably good for now. We're far enough away from the torture zones that there probably won't be many patrols."

She spares a brief glance towards you before returning her attention to the landscape ahead, quickly turning off the gravel road and beginning to drive through the bumpy, dusty terrain. "So, we have time to talk. Got any big questions on your mind?"
>>

The facility we just left, you called those people scientists, what are they researching? What rank are you? What rank am I? What was that AMDUSIAS' REJECTION thing? I'd like to know more about demons in general, really.
>>

>>743266

She frowns. "Basically? They were researching new tortures to use on prisoners in Hell. I mean, that's the stereotype, isn't it? People getting jabbed with pitchforks in lava like the world's goriest fondue? But honestly, we'd be lucky if it were just pitchforks and lava."

"Basically, they were using your mind to test out the sick shit they haven't quite perfected. Making sure it won't kill the prisoner too quickly, or render them catatonic or otherwise unresponsive to stimuli. Thankfully, it was all mental, so you're not crippled or anything. Thank Solomon for small miracles..."

You inquire about ranks, and Magdalena smiles slightly. "Nah, no ranks. The MAHDA isn't like that. We're less a military and more a rag-tag bunch of specialized operatives. If you're good enough at something, you'll usually receive a title to that effect. But otherwise, there's not really anything official."

You inquire about AMDUSIAS' REJECTION. She sighs. "Well, see, as a Demon, I have access to something called Pacts. Basically, I can invoke The 72 Spirits and The Seven Princes in limited quantities. It requires a lot of willpower to not be entirely consumed by them, but it's definitely worth it. Amdusias is one of them, the Spirit Of Sound. I can invoke his Rejection to completely negate sound, either for an object or in an area."

You ask about Demons as a whole, and her smile returns. "My favorite subject. Anyways, Demons are pretty much the main residents of Hell. We're descended from the 72 Spirits and Seven Princes, who were originally Fallen Angels. I, for one, am a Succubus."

You lean away from her, and she laughs. "Woah, cool it, buddy. I've sworn myself to a life of chastity. S'why I made myself underage. If I find someone who won't immediately try to jump my bones, maybe I'll age it up. 'til then, I'm like this."

You nod. You guess it makes sense.

She sighs. "Anyways, most Demons aren't too concerned with the whole Torture thing. We just wanna live our lives more or less unbothered. Some of us get involved in the industry, sure, but that's because it's the main money-maker. Even Demons have bills to pay."

She gazes out at the road. "I joined the MAHDA because I figure Hell, at least the way it is, isn't really that sustainable anymore. Sooner or later everything's gonna come to a head, and I feel like ending things now is less messy than letting everything boil over."

After a moment of silence, she looks over at you again. "Any more questions?"

>>743264
You ask if you can get into the back of the jeep. The current situation has you feeling a bit cramped. She stops the jeep and lets you climb in before continuing.

"Okay. Any questions besides that?"

"We're close. You'll know when we're there, but we've got a Gate of Bathin protecting everything. And let me tell you something, it was not easy to arrange that."

>>743426
You ask her if it's possible for you to get some sleep before you show up. She nods, and you sit back and close your eyes.

When you sleep, you dream. A man stands in a garden, tending to the birds. Dozens and dozens of Ravens, perched in trees, on bushes, hopping on the ground and staring up at you.

The man tending to the birds looks up at you. He is young, a dog-folk with black fur and feathered wings, clad in a plain burlap robe. "They're beautiful, are they not? They say that each Raven is a memory. That by the end of a man's life the soul is like a flock of ravens, set free by their demise."

He smiles. "They say Heaven swarms with Ravens. Some days they blot out the sun. The memories of millions of dead, given new life in the lands above."

His smile disappears, and he seems saddened. "But you... the Ravens have gone. And they haven't returned. My so called allies have committed a sin I cannot forgive."

The man steps forward, and allows a raven to perch on his finger. "The MAHDA... for a time, I'd thought you fools. But now I see as you do."

He offers the Raven to you, and you allow it to perch on your finger like it did his. You look into its beady eyes, and suddenly, you remember, just a little. A birthday cake. Friends celebrating your continued survival. A lover's embrace in a secluded corner.

And then the raven takes flight, but you still remember. The young man smiles at you.

"Finding them again shall take time, my child." He says to you. "But I am Malphas. Keeper of Ravens. You will remember, in time."

He turns away from you, and with a whirl of shadows, Malphas is a raven. The entire congress takes flight with him. You watch the cloud of black fill the air, hundreds of beating wings and feathers swirling...

You awaken in the back seat. Your neck is stiff, and you stretch. You still remember the little fragment from Malphas.

Magdalena looks back at you. "Oh, good. You're up. We're almost at the Gate."

After a little bit more driving, you suddenly get a feeling like having your head forced into a bucket of ice-cold water. When it clears, you realize you're in front of what seems to be a large building. The landscape stretches out into what seems to be deep space. It seems like you're on a floating island.

Magdalena parks the jeep near a set of other jeeps, and you both step out. You stretch, and prepare to ask Magdalena where you should go next until you hear what sounds like rapidly approaching footsteps.

Suddenly, you are tackled by an excited looking catfolk. His fur is a bright orange, and he's currently dressed in a pair of cargo shorts and a t-shirt depicting a rather cartoony bull with a human head. He seems only a year or two younger than you, and despite your bulk you still stumble backwards from the force of impact.

"TOM!" The catfolk shouts. "You're alive! You're really alive! I'd missed you so much and now you're back!" He leans up and kisses you passionately.

You have never seen this man before in your life.

You kiss the catfolk back, though you glance at Magdalena and try to get across how thoroughly lost you are. She looks really sad.

When he pulls away, he nuzzles against your chest and purrs. "I know you probably need to get debriefed on all this, but I can't wait to catch up..." he says. "I've been awful lonely without you."

He lets go of you and starts walking away. "Well, come find me when you're free, Tom! You know where to go."

When he's gone, you turn to Magdalena and inquire who the hell that was.

"That? That was Phoenix. He's another Demon that defected, one of the 72 Spirits, in fact." She sighs. "And he kinda used to be one of your boyfriends before the amnesia. You two were really close."

She heads towards the building, gesturing for you to follow. "Cmon, let's go talk to Apollyon. He'll want to see what's happening."

>>743446
As you navigate the keep, getting the occasional glance from others but no more outright conversations, you mention to Magdalena that you dreamed of someone named "Malphas", who claimed he was attempting to recover your memories.

She immediately stops, turns to you, glances around to see if anyone's watching, then drags you into an empty room.

"You saw Malphas? What did he say? Was he surrounded by Ravens? Did he mention me at all? If you're lying I'll shoot your cock off, you hear me?!?"

You inform her of your dream, how Malphas claimed he was attempting to regain your memories. You tell her everything you can, mostly because getting shot in the dick sounds like the worst possible thing.

She sighs. "Right. Sounds like him." She leaves the room. "Okay, whatever, I doubt you're lying. That's good. If Malphas is working on getting your memories back, you're going to get your memories back."

You continue heading through the facility, and eventually reach an office. A plaque on the door reads "Apollyon". Magdalena knocks, and after a brief pause, you hear a voice.

"Come in, Magdalena. You too, Thomas." The voice is strange, like dozens of people speaking in perfect harmony.

Magdalena opens the door, and as the both of you head inside, you see Apollyon.

The angel is seated at a desk, apparently in the middle of writing something down before the both of you interrupted him. He resembles nothing more than a bipedal locust, clad in a suit. He watches you both with eyes that are just slightly too big, and smiles softly.

"Thomas. It's good to see you again." He says. "I've already been informed of your... condition. Magdalena contacted me while you were asleep. And I'd like you to know that we will do our best to recover your memories."

Magdalena clears her throat. "Actually, sir, according to Thomas, Malphas is working on the same thing."

Apollyon's beatific smile does not leave his face, and he nods. "Goodness. And here I was thinking he'd claimed himself to be a neutral party. Perhaps I did not know him as well as I thought... and neither did you, my child."

Magdalena tenses up, but she says nothing.

Apollyon stands. "Regardless, I'd rather not leave this up to chance. I'd still like you to see Timaeus. I've instructed him to inform you of the past few years' events, as well. He'll also make sure your Communions are still in one piece, and see if you can remember any Invocations."

You ask what an Invocation is. Apollyon blinks.

"Nevermind. That's one question answered for us. Please, just go see Marcus. You are both dismissed." Apollyon sits back down, and continues writing. Judging from the stationary, it's an official letter, but he seems to be writing down... sheet music?

The both of you navigate the facility again, and eventually reach a laboratory. Inside, a small, timid-looking Mousefolk is currently looking through a microscope at a razor-thin sample of muscle tissue. He's clad in a labcoat that's visibly a size too large for him, though the name "Timaeus" is visibly embroidered over his heart, suggesting that it is his coat. His fur is snowy white, and the look on his face can only be described as "Nerd Glee" as he examines the specimen through the microscope.

Magdalena opens the door with a bang, and then knocks on it. "Yo, Timaeus! Knock knock! Got a message from the Action Man, or some other musical reference in relation to Thomas!"

The mouse lets out a literal squeak of surprise and looks at the both of you. "Oh, y-yes, of course. Thomas, good to see you in one piece." He gestures to what looks like some repurposed dentist's chair. "Please be seated, and we can begin the examination. Unless, of course, you have any questions about the procedure?"
