Chapter One: Of Truths and Secrets

Our tale begins in a dark and eerie forest. The moon glitters in betwixt the silhouetted leaves. There is the sound of a bell ringing in the distance to the east, and the gurgling of a stream to the west, all around you are fireflies and the calls of nocturnal birds. The breeze flows gently over the long grass. But what is that odd chattering? Could it be... snickering? You are faced with a choice, either go:

Faceless? You say >you'd like information beyond the obvious "an entity without a discernable observation nerve center".
???:"Certainly. A faceless is an entity existing outside the typical definition of a living thing. They are translucent, they have an enormous gaping void in the front of their face, and they bond with the first mask they put on."
>Touch fluffy ears
Yep. Those are some definite rabbit ears on your head.
>Is this our face and body now, or can we take the mask off and return to being faceless if we wish?
Those definitely look like big furry rabbit legs you're sitting on.
You decide to ask >does this mean if I get ahold of other mask I can switch faces?
The thing in the brush seems to be taken aback. ???:"No, technically. Unless you decide to go through the rigorous, deadly and incredibly time consuming process of becoming a thing known as a Shifter. But I don't think you'd want to take up the means."
>>777461
???:"Both are true. But the only reason I brought you here, as opposed to a city so that you may enjoy a new life, is that the latter is especially important. We need to take back this world from the anarchy that grips it."
One more question for this thing.
">Weird, Xander didn't turn into some kind of clock-creature from his mask." you say.
The thing stops.
???:[i]"This is worse than I thought. We'll need to get moving. The only reason his mask doesn't transform him, the only possible way, is that he's wearing another one underneath it."

Well, it's not our fault a certain author can't make up his/her mind on which quest to work on! It's making my head hurt from all the bouncing around he/she puts us through!

"You were gone for such a long time, I feared for your safety. A good thing too, a raider gang attacked the village, I managed to get you out before they did too much damage."

Cheshire chuckles. "You might have been doing splendidly for all I know."

The cat looks confused, his ears flick from one side to another. "Author?

He/She probably needs to pick one quest and see it through, but with so many ideas, it becomes difficult. He/She would like to thank you all for your exemplary patience.

A savage grin plays at the corner of Cheshire's lips. He closes his eyes for a moment, regaining his composure. "I suppose..." he's obviously wrestling with and idea, and finally he kicks it to you, "we could try to take back the town..."

That old sadistic grin is back on the Cat's face, he turns and his ears flip back and forth repeatedly. "We annihilate each and every raider we can find! That should grant you the town's favor AND get you some decent equipment! What say you Thief? Ready to live up to your title?"

Cheshire is visibly appalled, then regains his trademarked expression. "The bell is for you to get my attention, the clothes are for you, as you are currently not wearing any and the sword... Well, you'll find out later. In truth, any blade weapon will do, but I know not your preference. So, shall we begin?"
