*sweep* *sweep* *sweep*

Man, this sucks...

Everyday it’s the same wake up early for the stupid morning prayers, then run to the kitchens to get breakfast for the priests, while my own food is nothing it cold pouridge and stale bread. Then I start my chores, sweeping, cleaning, organizing the bishop’s chambers, and probably other things Father Baldwin can come up with...

And I have to clean the latrenes later today... whoop-de-do...

Oh yeah, GREAT idea! I bet that makes me and the other servants the most spiritual people here. Please, I’ve seen what some of these fat bastards around here eat, I’m the one who carry’s the bishops food to his chambers. He gets away with eating roasted chickens and the most freshly baked bread. While the rest of us are stuck most meager meals.

Look don’t tell anyone this or I could be flogged, but I’ve actually had to swipe food off the bishops plate just to make sure I haven’t gone hungry before.

I’m not exactly a slave, but I was raised by the priests here. I don’t know who my father was but I was told that my mother was a foreign woman who collapsed at the foot of the monestary. I’ve tried running away before, but I quickly found out that there was no where to go, the monestary is based on an island off the coast of Northumbria. So unless I have money to hire a boat, which I don’t, I’m pretty much stuck here. The whole island actually belongs to the church, including the harbor below.

>>854107
>>854110
All of our food is made here on the island, with all the pilgrims coming in, this place is actually quite rich from what I can tell. Not like I actually see any of it though, most of the money goes into continuously adding on to the church other parts of the island. All in all i’d say only most of the priests here are dicks, some of them are nice anyway. Brother Kells sometimes sneaks me and the other servants good bread.

As for my name, I was told that my mother had just enough breath to tell the priests it was-

Well, I imagine the issue is being an orphan, caring for you is a rather hefty financial drain, and you won’t have any skills not taught to you, and I think this time period is one where the average citizen doesn’t have spare resources for dealing with an extra mouth to feed.
Plus running away from the Church that ‘generously’ decided to take you in and care for you, as poorly as that job was done, probably makes you look ungrateful, as opposed to mistreated.

Go and tell the bishop you feel divinely inspired by the radiance of the church later today, and that you feel the urge to set out into the world and tell all of God's wonders as you travel to the Holy Land in sacred pilgrimage.

The Holy Land is effectively as far away as possible from this place and he can't, as a bishop, deny that going to the Holy Land is important, so you'll eventually be able to get the hell out of here.

You'd like the holy land, there are very few latrines there and everything is covered in sand.

Wait, there's a tidbit in your last sermon about eating too much too fast, even if you've been starving for weeks. Actually, ESPECIALLY if you've been starving for weeks. Something about your stomach learning humility and by suddenly stuffing it with 200% your daily recommended dose of gluttony it becomes completely sinful and a useless lump of coal and you die of starvation-induced rot... or whatever.

I’m hesitant as to what I should say, part of me wants to tell him to donate to the church, or I’m worried that what he has to give isn’t something I’d want. But another part of me wants to accept it, whatever it is. He reaches into his cloak and pulls out...

Holy... that’s a Seax, a long knife. Where was he keeping that? And he’s actually offered that to me? He smiles at me, at it reminds me of a wolf. Should I accept this? What should I even do?

Geirvaldr: “Believe me boy, you may need this. Better to have it and not want it, than need it and not have it.”

He's offering you a path of violence, you know.

There's an old legend about a knife that demands blood. It starts out small; a cut here, a dead rat there. Then it suggests you solve problems with minimal diplomacy. Then it points out tactical routes, combo moves, "acceptable" targets. And finally, it roars with its true face - to kill all that stand in the path of the user, never sated until rivers of blood pour from the defeated, never satisfied until oceans crash red waves across the horizon.

But if you don't take it, you will die here, alone, a servant of a higher power yet enslaved to its hypocrite servants and contradicting laws until you starve. Not to mention all the thousands of other workers slaving away, thinking they are doing holy work when they're just mindlessly industrializing for the sake of a few fatass priests' dinners. If you choose to do nothing, this is how the world will work every day for the next five hundred years.

Take the knife. And when the time comes, demand the "Servants of God" to administer justice and progress and prosperity, for you shall give none.

I'd straight up ask if it's cursed. This situation is starting to sound like old tales/deals with the devil. If he gives any answer that leans towards yes ('it will endow you with great power...') I'd say nah and run back to the church. (as for your chore say you were scared of the storm and didn't want to get caught in it. You'll get in some trouble, but hopefully not a ton)
Otherwise, accept his gift. If this is one of those tales where a beggar gives a boon to a kind man who helped him, I would take it; even if it's just a knife, a gift can be turned into part of the pay needed to get out.

Smile, take the knife, and tell him there's a warm place for him to seek shelter from the coming storm over yonder. Indicate the monestary - they take on pilgrims, right?

Better get that water quick. The Scriptorum will still need it, and if the storm's here, you'll get soaked right quick if you don't hurry.

The priests will not approve of you having something like that knife. Like as not, they'll make you give it up if they see you with it, so hide it.

Bar the fact that the knife represents violence, it also represents something else. Wealth. You can trade this thing for the resources you need to travel elsewhere.

Ok, i would asume that he is refering to and ouside danger that will probably come latter and that all of your fellow believers are unprotected of it, because they don't respond with violence, and that will be probaby their demise. Take the knife, it is not just a weapon, it's a tool. Even if it is designed to kill, you are not bound to kill everithing that stands in front of you. You have to do what you can to survive, and if that implies kill a few people, so be it. This is a time of grate violence, and if you don't adapt, you will be eaten by the stronger.
Ask him where does he come from, hell, ask him if you can go with him, i wouldn't want to be in that church if shit goes down there.

Alright so first to address the issue with the file names. I’m literally uploading these images straight from my iPad, so that might account for some of the wonky names. As for the file sizes and large images, I’ve done a temporary fix on those for now, and attempted to do something of a poor-man’s file resizing. I’ll get some photo editing software soon and hopefully I can get a more permanent solution to the names and sizes in place soon. Hope you are all enjoying the quest so far! ???: “... And what is your name?”

Sigurd: “My name is Sigurd.”

???: “Sigurd... it’s nice to meet you. My name is Erik. You realize that your name is not of this land. Your name comes from our land, Scandia.”

Sigurd: “It is?”

Erik: “It is, and you look like one of us. But I have one question to ask you. Do you have any markings, say around your ankle?”

You don't need to cleave the whole head off to neutralize the target. Chopping through the esophagus will usually sever all nerve cords to the rest of the body, leaving them unable to do anything more than make a few funny faces. You can chop the rest of their spine after the battle is over, save your strength for the real targets.

I am aware that we probably aren't the person that is cutting off the head, but it can't hurt to try and influence them to be more creative. Because as much as I can tell, this will be from the perspective of the vikings. So might as well act like them, killing, intimidating and burning all the way to Valhalla

As for all that killing brother thing, hey we are just thoughts in the head of that boy. What we write is what he is thinking. In that case I am more of a paranoia formed and distrust form from such a drastic change in his life. Yeah I might be constantly screaming about not trusting this guy and trying to kill him but that is just the thing, I am only one thought telling him that. There is more of you and I doubt that he will ever even listen to me

Okay so I figure I’d give you guys the rundown on this whole thing with attempting to be evil, backstab your brother, etc. Right now think of this as throwing you guys a bone however i’m getting kinda tired of seeing these kinds of jokey responses or weird attempts to be evil when it’s not strictly called for. When a character isn’t doing something that wouldn’t call for an action like that to be taken, they just seem really out of place and can get on people’s nerves. I’m not saying don’t do them because there will be times when they are much more called for given the circumstances.

I sort of understand why suggestors do this, especially in quests where you are the inner thoughts or voices of the protagonist but no one person should play as bloodlust or something, I’d rather just have you all be the collective conscious giving suggestions that you think are good ideas given the scenario. DiveQuest had this problem in the early parts of its quest until Weaver (honored be his name) shut it down. So for now just go with the flow, and just go with your guts on stuff.

I begin to search their bodies to see if they had anything of value. Their leader was wearing a ring mail shirt and had a sword, neither was in good condition. He also had a good deal of money on him, he was carrying a pouch of 20 gold and silver pennings on him. I suspect he might have had more but spent it on his cheap sword and mail. His men all had coins as well, though not as much, looks like he gave each of them one penning. Also each of them had these iron disks on them...

Interesting, this is king Erik’s Sigil, I recognize that serpent design...

But don't let your guard down, look around and see if there are still monsters around you. You are not sure if they all died after you killed the witch, speaking of her check her body this might be some sort of illusion and she is not actually dead. After that I wipe my sword and myself off and set to work recovering anything of possible value I can find.

All of the men had these metal discs and so did the witch, I’m still not sure what they are.

I found a good deal of silver pennings, so that brings my total up to about 100 in silver and roughly 15 in gold, not bad at all!

Some extra knives, can’t have too many of those I’ve found.

Their chiefs sword, it’s... okay. I can tell this was cheaply made, but a sword is a status symbol.

A couple of simple axes. I recovered my own by the way, so I have three of them now.

This mail shirt isn’t in the best condition. The rust on it needs to be cleaned up but it should fetch a good price if I can clean it.

And this cloak that belonged the witch. This fabric is very smooth, not like linen or wool. It also seems to shimmer slightly, not like any fabric I’ve seen. This could be worth a lot if given to the right person.

I’m with you on that one. I quickly make it back to my camp. I don’t have much time to decide what I need to take with me. Help me out here, here’s what I have:

Weapons
- Champions sword, this is rather sentimental to me, I’d rather not part with it. Condition: excellent
- Langseax. Condition: very good
- Longsword. Condition: Fair
- Hand Axes. Condition: Very good to good.
- Spear. Condition: Good
- Dane Axe. Condition: Good
- Seaxs: Condition. Condition: very good to poor
- Needle blade. Condition: Average
- Shield. Condition: Average

Armor:
Champions Byrnie. Condition: Excellent, aside from my sword this is the most expensive thing I own.
Mail byrnie. Condition: Fair
Helm. Condition: Good
Splint mail bracers. Condition: Good
Splint mail grieves. Condition: Good
Leather hand guards. Condition: Average
Kidney belt: Conditon: Average

Clothing:

Bedroll.
Trail rations.
Silver and gold pennings
Iron disks
Belt pouch

Champions sword, Langseax, Dane Axe, All your clothes and armor, Trail rations, Silver and gold pennings and Belt pouch. Personally i don't like leaving weapons behind, but the you might just use the rest as throwing weapons, so you will end up losing them anyway.
>>
No. 899846 ID: 094652

You need to pack like a runaway. Take everything light, take your best equipment, and finally, take anything you're willing to lug just so you can throw it at the enemy and not retrieve it.
Weapons: Champion's sword (best), spear (throw), hand axes (throw), seax (light), needle blade (light), shield (other - you will need a way to defend while tired, a shield is your best bet for that)
Armor: All of the above. Start by wearing the regular byrnie, then when it inevitably gets damaged discard it immediately and wear your Champion's Byrnie. Stuff your gear in your Champion's Byrnie using unworn clothes as a pad against the holes.
Clothing - All of the above. Useful as bandage rags.
Items - Trail rations, Silver and gold pennings, Iron disks, Belt pouch. Screw your tent and bedroll, you're not sleeping until dawn.
>>
No. 899848 ID: f75cef

What I suggest for you is to pick the weapon which you are most proficient to use and the one which is in the best condition to be used in a battle. Also, you should consider what would be the strongest to use in the battle. As for the clothing pick what can give you good defense with solid mobility
