You wear a pair of permanent adjustable spectacles given implanted after birth, (you were born with "special eyes") they allow you to dial in and see far away or small things. because of your "special eyes" you can also see things most cannot.

And as for the map...

"It looks like you almost pooped your pants!" he snickers, causing other passengers to glare and shuffle away from you two.

this Billuden seems oblivious to his condition, and to add to that he only has one crack despite his blatant display of Jovius.

Yeah, that looks like the face of someone who thinks he has a better chance of escaping by agreeing to medical trials instead of going straight to the gas chamber. After all, what does he know about the security surrounding these trials? In the choice between the devil he knew and the devil he didn’t, he chose the latter.

>you explain to us the basics of Jovius
>"Jovius is the disease that turns Billudens into Angimen, It manifests when a Billuden experiences too much joy or indulgence.
Symtoms include: speech impairment akin to a child's, Clefts or cracks in mask, Stiffening or hardening of mask, Lowered cognitive ability, Happy demeanor, Seizures, Attraction to water, Pruning or softening flesh, and Leaking. These symptoms show up and get worse over time typically happening in 3 stages. Jovius will progress more quickly with the more happiness an infected Billuden experiences. AB type Billudens are more prone to manifesting Jovius than AA types."
Stages:
1. minor deformities and occasional spontaneous laughter
2.motor control problems, growing deformities, speech impairment, urge to pleasure self and reproduce and minor mental degradation.
3.Fits of prolonged laughter, deformities begin to connect and parts of mask start to fall off, severe mental degradation, seizures, High libido, fits of violence.

After stage 3 a Billuden will change into an Angimen and lose control.

There's any way to slow down the sickness or treatment? Any sickness that's similar? And, of course, what's your type?

Unfortunately the most effective way to slow it down is to not feel happy. other things have been found to help though, like leaving cracks in your mask open. Sealing cracks can actually cause buildup of internal gasses and worsen the effects of Jovius. The city is built to minimize Jovius by keeping residents moods low, everything is connected by subways and other public transport that works on a regular schedule to enforce a clockwork cycle and to maximize productivity while minimizing freedom. It feels wrong, but most prefer this over losing themselves.
In terms of treatment, a few types of medication have shown to help in controlling mood but it only seems to work for a short time before tolerances are built up. Your best shot at a cure is finding the source, which is why today is so important.

Originally, You were an AA. You are a part of a genetically modified class of Billudens type †.
Type † Billudens are highly resistant to Jovius but unstable, You are due to your inability to feel strong positive emotions. Others of your type may have different reasons, we'll learn more about them when you get to the facility.

Speaking of which, it seems your stop is here.

Well then, get off. What is the vector for infection, do you know? And will keeping someone in an induced coma delay the disease's progress?

Billudens are born with Jovius. It's assumed it's always been that way but only the past few decades has it shown itself so often.

An induced coma does greatly slow the progression of the disease, in the past you've studied comatose patients.

>>891327
>any sickness that's similar?
(Jovius is based off of Angelman syndrome, but that doesn't exist in this canon.)

"Hey hey Dr J! Taking the 7:00 metro today?" It's your trusted research partner David. "I saw you weren't at the facility and was afraid you might miss the procedure, Lucky for you the power went out during preparations and bought you some time"
David turns to the three people that came out with you. "You three must be the power division workers we called! Thank you for coming, I'm truly enthralled!" "My name is David but most call me The Mentor, and my friend here is the good doctor Jack!"

The tall one nods and introduces himself "My name is Mumford but you can call me Mumf"

The grumpy looking one eyes you for a bit. "Name's Gary, I'll also respond to Gnumf."

The lady sighs and turns to David "So, what's the problem?"
