A cat sits calmly on a bed inside his cabin. It's his 34th day at this camp, as a SCRIBE and a WARRIOR in training. The cat is part of a group of travelers from far, far away, who've come to colonize this land; their dream land, and seek its golden treasure hidden within.

Although the cat has traveled a long way, he doesn't yet have a name. Why not give him one?

Submit an action. Ask him anything. Do whatever.

Why did the travelers bring you with them? It's dangerous to bring untrained people to unexplored lands.

Mick it is! The cat nods in approval!

>Why did the travelers bring you with them? It's dangerous to bring untrained people to unexplored lands.

As plausible as that is, the group isn't exactly formed by the most professional explorers. They are all from the same small kingdom, if you can even call it that. The king is drowning in debt. And most soldiers are from the same village; and although there are some VERY FIERCE ones, they're not enough to discard the idea of recruiting any other ones who're possibly able to fight.

But worry not; the group has been there for way over 351 days as of now. It'll soon be a year.

It's been considered safe enough for younger and less experienced soldiers to be recruited; and a few families to be brought in too, mostly some of the less wealthy peasants, to populate the land.

The cat was called in around two months ago, to be the new scribe; after whatever happened to the one they previously brought. It's fine though. And as mentioned, he arrived around 34 days ago.

Mick isn't a BAD scribe, just a BAD FIGHTER. He won't need to fight much though, he hopes; the warriors have gotten control of nearly all of the threats they've encountered in the land so far. It seems things are really looking up this time.

>Look through the window.

It's not a window. It's a black board.

Mick does so anyways and just shoves his face onto the blackboard determinedly.

What's in the drawer? Take anything with you that you feel is necessary. I'm assuming you're wearing clothes.

Leave the cabin and meet some people. Who's your favorite person in the camp?

>What's in the drawer? Take anything with you that you feel is necessary. I'm assuming you're wearing clothes.

There's not much in the drawer, other than his scribe equipment; many pens and plenty of paper, notebooks and a few slabs of pure, sacred rock, but nothing he feels he'd need to bring out for a walk around the camp.

And yes, Mick IS wearing clothes, gladly. He hasn't forgotten them today.

>Leave the cabin and meet some people. Who's your favorite person in the camp?

Mick nods and leaves the cabin to contemplate the sunny warm day. A few of his fellow lower-tier warriors are standing by.

Juno, a young feline girl who's also new in the camp; but has been here for a little loner than Mick, around 53 days. They knew each other back in the village, but their friendship really got to a whole new level here. They're very close.

March, a young fox warrior around the same age as Mick and Juno, but with much higher skills in fighting at the very least, although not enough to be considered middle tier. The fox tries his best though. Mich doesn't talk to him that much, however. As far as he knows, the fox has been in this camp for about 72 days.

They seem to be talking about the judgement that should be taking place right now. A shaman from a local tribe. Mick isn't sure what he did, but the cat wouldn't want to question his superiors.

They seem to be taking many wild soldiers from the local tribes lately. A lot more than Mick would normally expect.

Sometimes the cat swears he can hear at least a new one every night being dragged into the huge cabin dedicated for the higher-tier warriors, a new desperate voice among the familiar ones, in the silence of the night.

But Mick doesn't question it.

"Oh, morning! You're finally up!" - March greets the cat with a friendly wave, and Juno does the same.

a. Talk to them about anything!

Mick nods. The cat makes some small talk and soon after he gets brave enough to mention the shaman and the judgement.

Juno and March stay silent for a second, as if they were making sure it was a good idea to tell him; but they trusted him enough. March looks at both sides to make sure no one else is around, and he begins to speak.

"Ah, yeeeah... They brought that one guy in last night. Not sure what he did either, but they say it had to do with a forbidden ritual. It's the 3rd shaman they bring in this month for a similar reason though. I don't know if that makes sense at all, but..." - The fox pauses, looking at both sides again before he pulls Mick and Juno closer to whisper. - "I think I heard Zane and Trinni talking about a fire. A map. Ashes. I picked up mostly loose words, so I'm sorry I'm not of much help, but they definitely seemed to be asking him things too... oddly specific, for a regular judgement of a local shaman."

Mick and Juno stare at each other in confusion, and then at March. The cat wants to speak, and yet he doesn't have the courage to do it right away; not before Juno starts speaking. - "I heard similar things when they brought that old soldier the other day, that coyote. They didn't seem to hold back at the slightest with the whips, but every now and then there'd be a very sudden silence; and they'd whisper. Have you heard anything similar?" - The feline asks, looking at the cat.

"I... heard stuff too at night, sometimes." - Mick says in an anxious and low voice, and Juno just nods. March takes a look around once again before he finally backs away, back to his previous spot, giving everyone space. - "That's kinda weird. I honestly have no idea what they could be asking. But it's not up to us to question it; and I'm late to my training anyways, this is not what I was supposed to be doing this morning. I'll see you guys around!" - The fox waves nervously before walking off in a seemingly anxious pace, leaving the two felines a little confused; but it's not as if they weren't uneasy themselves. - "What do we do? - The young light-furred feline asks in her soft voice, staring at Mick. The light-blue furred male feline shrugs, looking around, with still a feeling of anxiety as if he couldn't breath.

An overwhelmingly unanimous decision!

"Let's go together!" - The cat says as he looks at Juno, who nods and smiles upon hearing that. - "Yeah, sticking together might be the best thing to do! What DO we do now though?" - Juno asks, looking at Mick who's right now scratching the back of his head, trying to think of something.

>>910464
>eavesdrop on any plot relevant conversations you happen by

"I mean, we could just eavesdrop!" - Mick suggests, and Juno tilts her head slightly to the side in confusion. - "Eavesdrop?" - She asks, staring at the other cat.

>>910506
>Look for friends and stuff. It'd be nice to learn about this mystery, but asking around too much could get you in trouble.

"Y-Yeah, we could eavesdrop! I mean, we'll still ask around and such, but asking people too much could get us in trouble. Let's find people that we already know to ask about this, and for the most part let's just eavesdrop a little bit!" - Mick says completing his line of thought, and Juno smiles, liking the idea.

"Sure, we could, but I think we should look for people to ask BEFORE we eavesdrop!" - The feline girl adds more thought to the plan, and the blue-furred cat nods in agreement.

>>910527
>Ask her who might know more about this and go visit those people. After all, these judgments aren't exactly in line with peaceful colonization.

"Uhm, in that case... Do you know anyone else who might know a bit more about the judgement?" - The light-blue furred cat asks, staring at the other feline. - "Now that I think about it..." - Juno pauses for a while to think it over a little more, before continuing to speak.

"We could ask the witch..." - The feline girl suggests looking at Mick, who gasps upon hearing that. - "T-The WITCH? Kambria? Are you crazy? You know she doesn't even like being called a witch!! And she''s... scary! Why would we talk to the witch about this?!"

"Kambria is nice! She's helped me and March a couple times, I don't see why she wouldn't help us! It's better than wandering alone like if it'd solve anything!" - Juno says in an slightly more intense tone, trying her best not to yell in order to not call anyone's attention.

"I'm sure whatever she helped you with isn't half as big as breaking one of the rules in the camp and asking about the details of something as secret as a judgement!" - Mick stutters with a clearly anxious tone now in his voice, which increases more and more with every word until the words are struggling to come out of his mouth.

Juno pats his back softly.

"Sshh... sshh... It's okay." - She says in a calm, gentle voice, patting her friend's back. - "We'll find someone to talk to about this. Let's just go ask around and eavesdrop a little bit first then. And maybe, if it goes wrong, we can talk to Kambria." - Juno pats his back a bit more as she speaks until his breath finally returns to a more normal pace.

"Y-Yeah... Let's do that!" - Mick says in a calmer voice, smiling softly at her, and they both take a breath and calm down a little before wandering off around the camp once more.

- - - -

a. Ask around, look for more friends who're also in the lower-tier in that camp.

b. Look for any acquaintances in the higher-tiers to ask about this, or at least middle-tiers. This would be risky, needless to say.

c. Follow Juno's idea and ask Kambria, the witch, about the judgement of the local shaman.

- - - -

Should they seek people in the training area, the kitchen and/or the nearby field where people tend to go to hang out and/or eat, or the more distant and isolated areas in the camp for clues?

C.
I think we should first talk to Kambria and, if she doesn't know much, then eavesdrop on others or look for clues. Altho I don't see any problems doing it while on the way to her.
To be honest, I don't really think eavesdropping has much chance of working at all because anyone talking about it would most likely be whispering and we wouldn't hear anything.

>To be honest, I don't really think eavesdropping has much chance of working at all because anyone talking about it would most likely be whispering and we wouldn't hear anything.

Clever! Mick and Juno nod in agreement, now that they're really thinking about it. Eavesdropping and counting on the possibility of them hearing something useful could work, but shouldn't be the main objective. Nice!

>I think we should first talk to Kambria and, if she doesn't know much, then eavesdrop on others or look for clues. Altho I don't see any problems doing it while on the way to her.

The feline friends nod although with a slight bit of uneasiness at the thought of confronting the witch about it first-thing like that. Though the witch seems to be the nicest high-tier member to question about this, regardless of how scary she can be.

Mick and Juno head to the witch's place, which is in a more distant area in the camp, but not the MOST distance. She enjoys the silence, but likes to still be close by.

From the entrance of the wooden cabin they can smell the scent of the many candles and the soft slightly rose-colored smoke coming from inside.

"Is she... available to talk?" - Mick asks Juno, already nervous and regretting being there. - "I mean... yeah! Doesn't look like she's busy with any rituals or spells right now, that smoke is just a very usual spell she uses for relaxation." - Juno responds, seeming pretty calm herself, which surprises Mick quite a bit, but helps him calm down too.

"Sooooo it's like super magical weed?" - Mick asks with a giggle.

"I mean... kinda?" - Juno also giggles at the idea, and they both finally take a step closer and call the witch's name.

"Kambria!" - They both chant in an audible but not too loud voice.

And from the thick smoke, an old dark-furred cat wearing a velvet robe comes out, a look of both surprise and mild confusion in her face.

Kambria remains quiet for a while before finally beginning to speak. - "What brings you two here? Did Zane send you?" - She asks in a slightly concerned voice. Juno shakes her head, which seems to make the witch calm down quite a bit. - "Ah, good! Come in then!"

"Thank you so much, Kambria! I hope we aren't bothering you at this time!" - Juno apologizes politely as she walks into the cabin, fanning out some of the smoke with her hands in order to be able to see anything inside at all. - "Yeah, we wanted to know about the judgement!" - Mick says walking right behind Juno, fanning out all the smoke, still giggling about the joke from a few minutes ago, as he now stares at the witch.

A dreadfully eerie silence follows that question.

The witch remains quiet for a few long, dreadful minutes, and Juno stares at Mick with an equally nervous and terrified look. - "The... shaman, you mean?" - The witch finally speaks after so many long minutes of silence, and yet she simply goes quiet again after that sentence. And Mick and Juno don't dare to say a word either. For a few long minutes, it's just pure, dreadful silence.

Mick seems equally uneasy about the name as the witch.

Zane is the leader of the troops and one of the strongest warriors in the entire camp; and who takes care of most matters in the camp related to safety and possible threats. A scary figure even to those who are higher tier.

>C
>Tell her that yep, you heard a lot of stuff last night and felt uncomfortable. And that people shouldn't treat each other that way. Ask her again if she knows what happened and why.

Mick nods. This isn't time to back down, not when she already knows they know.

"I hear it, I hear it every night! And Juno sad she does too! We want to know what's going on, it bothers us!" - The blue cat argues as he takes a step closer, confronting the witch with every little bit of courage he has.

She remains silent.

"Kambria, please, this is serious." - Juno now takes a step further, confronting the witch in the same way. Two are better than one. - "You have to answer us. We know you know. Even if not directly, I know you're always aware of what's happening around us. Around all of us. Please, great sorceress, show us the truth! My every night is constantly tormented by tortured screams from the distance in the camp, screams of wild warriors, shamans, all kinds of voices I never happen to recognize. What's happening? We need the truth! A revelation! Please, a vision, a glance of darkness, at least" - Juno speaks until she runs out of breath, panting softly, the two fellow cats staring at the sorceress. Their legs trembling lightly as they wait, in the pure, long silence.

The witch finally opens her amber eyes, to give a loud, tortured groan, as she finally breaks the silence with a loud, thundering voice. For a few seconds, both of the cats feel their hearts drop.

"What a vision of darkness! I feel it nearly every single night, I see it when I close my eyes, every whip and every squirm. I never, ever agreed to this. I'm not a part of it. I'm none but a sorcerer, I hold NO RESPONSIBILITY. What do you want to know? I'll not compromise myself for you two, you can't stop it!" - The black cat lashes at the smaller male feline, pinning him to the wall of the cabin, the smoke getting thicker as if as a mere result of her anger. - "They want gold! That's what they want! It's what they always want, it's not different from what it's always been like! Have you two only now noticed? You must be new here! They say the shamans are guilty of dark magic, but hell, I'm an avid fan of anything to do with those, they haven't confiscated my books. They want what I can't give. What only the shamans know. As if it made me useless. They barely consult me anymore, can you believe it! They don't! Oh, they don't!" - The witch flails pinning the light-blue furred cat to the wall, Juno desperately clawing at her to let him go, but it's as if it had no effect at all; until she finally lets him go at once, tumbling back and falling onto the ground as if her own legs had failed her.

'I... I know nothing. Why ask the sorceress when there are many others your could ask? Why me? What do you WANT from me, Juno?" - She asks, her vision now targeted directly at the pink-furred cat, the male blue cat panting so anxiously still clinging to the wall, in panic as he watches the pink feline confront the witch with every bit of courage she has.

- - - -

a. Take it as a threat. Defend Juno.

b. Stay where you are. They know each other, you should leave it to them to solve. Bursting in might commence an unnecessary fight.

c. Take no chances. Grab Juno and run as far as you can.

The sorceress' amber eyes glance at Juno without even blinking once, a constant, piercing stare.

>Oh? Does she feel lonely and useless and that's why she's lashing out on us?
Maybe? Mick isn't quite sure.
He does imagine there are certain questions that the local shamans can answer better than she can. She... MAY be feeling quite useless, that's the feeling he gets, too. But... He isn't sure.

>Jump in front of Juno and tell Kambria that you simply wanted her advice because she's a very wise sorceress.
>And uh... if she's lonely then we'll visit her every day, And if she feels useless, then why doesn't she teach you her sorcery?

While Mick likes the idea, he... isn't sure if JUMPING in front of Juno is quite the best strategy. From afar, though, the young feline stutters.

"I-I'm so sorry you feel like this, Kambria! We've only come here because you're a very wise sorceress, and we wanted your advice, y-you were the best person to ask! A-And... I-If you feel useless, w-we..." - The feline stutters until he's abruptly cut off by the witch.

"Useless? I don't FEEL useless, they THINK I am! Can you believe it? They... How do they no longer consult me? They... they..." - The witch cries out, her breath heavy. Juno dares to approach, just patting her arm softly; and the witch just pushes the smaller feline away out of impulse. - "DON'T TOUCH ME! They were right, I'm of no use for this team, none at all!" - She cries out, her voice even more aggressive than before.

"No, no, it doesn't have to be like that! Y-You're not useless! W-We... W-We can come here every day if you want, and... I-If you really do feel useless maybe you... could teach me sorcery!" - Mick tries to calm her down, his voice still shaky, and yet the reaction he gets from her is unexpected.

"Teach... you... sorcery?" - The witch just slowly glances at the blue-furred male cat, her expression showing pure surprise. - "You... you think your fragile, inexperienced flesh could even possibly handle the power of sorcery of my level? You...? A low-tier soldier?" - The disbelief in her tone makes the male cat flinch and shiver, as she takes a step forward, before Juno grabs at her again. - "Is that how you see me? You think I can just teach your my sorcery like that, you think that would make me feel "useful"...? You... you..." - The witch is unable to finish the phrase, before Juno jumps in front of Mick.

"Please, Kambria, he didn't mean it that way! We're just trying to help! Please!" - Juno pleads, as the witch just stands before her, her breath so heavy. Mick is clinging onto the wall. He doesn't know what to do.

>>910783
>B. Don't get angry, don't provoke a fight. But you could still lend her support. She doesn't have to face the witch alone. Stand by her.

Mick nods, keeping a distance, as he speaks in the same anxious yet non-threatening tone. - "Y-You need to calm down, please! W-We didn't mean to anger you, w-we just wanted to know what was going on! I don't find you useless, I-I..." - The cat stutters, not even a little bit of anger in his tone; but it's not enough.

It all happens in a split second. The witch comes forward, Juno stands there, and the small pink feline just gets pushed aside as if she was nothing but a bag of rocks.

The sorceress pins the blue-furred boy against the wall aggressively, her breath heavy, forcing him against the wooden wall of the cabin so fiercely he can hardly breath. Her tone is more aggressive than ever, her button eye glimmering in the sunlight as she yells with a thunderous, violent tone at the smaller feline.

"Y-YOU DON'T GET IT, DO YOU? THEY'RE COMING FOR US. ALL OF US. THERE'S NO TIME. THEY'VE CROSSED THE LINE LONG AGO, IN THE MOMENT WE STEPPED HERE. I've done too much! And even after all I've done, it's as if they had no faith in me. They needed to seek the shamans. They know. There's no hope for us, for any of us! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! THEY'RE COMING FOR US, THEY'RE COMING!" - The witch yells in a tormented, tortured voice as she pins the cat to the wall; Juno watches in terror and flails at the witch in despair, but it's as if it had little to no effect on her. Mick doesn't move. Something in her eye, something, gives him absolute shivers. She does see something. She does, after all.

- - - -

a. Fight. There's no point in wasting any more time, a second more could mean irreversible consequences.

b. Scream for help. Anyone's help. Say clearly that you're being attacked. Let people know, let her know people are coming.

c. Call for a friend. Call for March. He's better at fighting than you two, even if he's still low tier; and by calling only his name you wouldn't alert barely anyone else.

d. Don't do anything. Just wait. Let her take out her anger. Take the risk.

- - - -

The blue feline's heart races as Juno flails at the witch in pure despair, as they feel the atmosphere around them getting darker and darker and darker.

Screaming and calling for help isn't going to work because if someone could hear us, they would already have heard the witch screaming and would've came running.

We don't really know what she's talking about. What happened? What did she do? What do the shamans know?
Anyway, she now seems to be in a panic about some future event. In this case, I'd try to validate her feelings and redirect her to the present.

Tell her that, ok, they're coming. So what does she want to do? What does she want us to do? What's her plan right now?

If that doesn't work, then go with A, that is...
Slap her face and push her away, tell her to look at herself and what she's doing, but be ready to dart outside in case she continues with the aggression.

>Screaming and calling for help isn't going to work because if someone could hear us, they would already have heard the witch screaming and would've came running.

Clever! Mick nods; they aren't being particularly quiet at all right now, so screaming might not do much.

>We don't really know what she's talking about. What happened? What did she do? What do the shamans know?
>Anyway, she now seems to be in a panic about some future event. In this case, I'd try to validate her feelings and redirect her to the present.

Mick nods. He'll have to try that.

"P-Please, wait! I-I'm sorry you feel that way, b-but we're here to help! W-What did you do? What is it the shamans know? W-What's it they-?" - The feline isn't even able to finish the sentence before she slams him on the wall once again; this time, it almost feels as if all the air in his lungs was just taken from him all at once. He couldn't breath.

Juno lashes at the witch with her bare hands, as neither cats brought any kind of weaponry. The sorceress' reaction is minimal yet again.

>Tell her that, ok, they're coming. So what does she want to do? What does she want us to do? What's her plan right now?

The blue-furred cat pulls in all the air he can before speaking as loud as he can in pure despair, breathing heavily, tears rolling down his soft cheeks.

"W-WHAT DO YOU WANT?? Who? W-Who's coming? W-What's your plan? What... W-What are you trying to do?!" - The cat speaks in between gasps of pure despair for air. It's as if every minute, it got harder to breath. Every minute.

"What I want?" - The witch repeats the cat's question, which frightens him even more. - "I... I..." - And yet, for no apparent or obvious reason, the sorceress doesn't finish that sentence.

...

"They... they're here! - The voice of the sorceress echoes through the cabin. The cat feels the witch's grasp loosen up. But he can't tell why.

The cat can't see anything.

A. This will tell us whether we're truly in a different place, or if the sorceress is still holding us.
