He has a 'Somewhat off-time' pocket watch with him, but not the one that you accidentally sold. We've only been with him since about when the car driving him most of the way to town dropped him off, and he walked the rest of the way. This was about a day before you bumped into each other in the shop while you were trying to get the watch back. Was that about the time you sold it?

((Sorry for all the deleting and correcting, guys.))

It's just something my father found somewhere out in the middle east, I wasn't on that adventure but there was some kinda cult and stuff.

Apparently this big tower of guys that got cemented in by crazy warlord. I have to stay still while casting, but worth it to be able to close up my wounds. Knowing a related ritual too, more powerful but similar, makes most anything a more potent weapon.

Also have some other unrelated magic my family gathered through the ages. Feuerfelds have been in the buisness since the Renaissance. Used to host some immortal mystery circle, that got driven over the ocean in an Inquisition. However, kept a lot of their stuff and managed to turn a nice profit on the black market.
>>
No. 207457 ID: c4c313

Oh, this may or may not make you feel better, but you were right about the towers. When that laser happened we were momentarily ejected into what seemed like the future. We got a glimpse of a (then ancient) recording of this very day's bridge fiasco from the perspective of the beings controlling it. The recording was described as integral to "The Incident" which you are now part of, an incident that will (apparantly) go down in history, so, congratulations... I guess. May you live in interesting times.

The contents of the recording were most useful though, since it was recording the beings in control of the towers who so destroyed your group. Apparantly the beings in control of the towers could indeed see you, but posed you no ill will personally. They had been ordered by their superior to maintain "quarantine." They also seemed rather lax in their duties, even joking with each other, so despite their awesome offensive capabilities, you might be able to exploit their lack of attention. I can only think that quarantine refers to the flesh monsters you encountered earlier, but it might be something else.

Interesting, but no I lost contact with you immediately after my father's assistant witlessly sold you to buy some useless failing buisness. Said we "needed a new base of local operations." We 'used' to fund the local 'mine' in hopes of opening up a deeper, more profitable passage into the ruins, but somehow the papers changed hands... still have my lawyers trying to track 'zhat leddle problem' down.

>>207457
Lovely, my family has been aware of this site since 1854, shortly after the town's founding, the old Spanish mission here had some 'interesting' tales associated with it. The flesh-beasts however, those are new to me. The fact that the city itself will try to kill you... old news.

Now, which way?

>>207463

Inspect the debris to your right, and then follow the way further away from the bridge. If you follow along those windows it's possible the tower guys could detect movement and take out the whole passageway with their weapons, but you be the judge of the hazard of going that way.
>>
No. 207469 ID: c4c313

Oh, and sorry I didn't mean to emphasize that the city was trying to kill you. That was obvious from day 1. The two points I was trying to make were "The Incident" meaning you're about to make history. And the other is "Quarantine" meaning that those towers were attacking you specifically to prevent the spread of some kind of contagion, transmitted by human (or humanoid) figures. My guess is that directly relates to those flesh beasts you faced, and the towers probably prevented them from reaching this far, but that is just a guess.

You consider the possibility that we ourselves are the contagion? Still, let us try to avoid touching anything too nasty looking today. I would plan to live to see the day we refer to all this as a mere "Incident."

Breathing through my sleeve I give the purple bits a poke. They tinkle and shift slightly. It appears to be a series of glowing crystal plates held in place by old wiring.

In absence of anything else I would suggest transporting them in some of that discarded piping. It's stiff, so should protect them somewhat from being crushed. Plus the deadly radiation those crystals are emitting would get absorbed by the ceramic casing.

Food, not a problem, already have rations even some meat already cooked here, still warm, if we wanted it. It's a bit tough and over-seasoned so we can pass.

Inspected local writings and determined that some of the origional engravings match proto-Lomaran and post-exilic-Lemuran of the rest of the ruin structures. Albeit more syntactic relation to Lemurian than usual, indicating earlier construction than the other mapped sections.

However, graffiti still eludes me, I know it's not Pnakotik at least, no, no. Not curvy enough, no math involved, too artistic and free for Stygian either...

Wait, no, focus, yes have to get out! First must find a fortified place to sleep. Then if we could determine the rough direction of the "Eye to Eternity", and ascend stairwell, perhaps take the way out that preacher came in?

If we go down to seek him or close off this exit the town itself will likely be unprepared for 'anything' that could have just come up from that mine.

This entrance has always been safe from the greater horrors. The roots of the ancient tree here guard it, or so the local Indian legends said.

What, precisely, is the idea here? Obviously, going on about monsters isn't going to win any points, but just getting them to hole up inside won't do much for you either, right? If it seems reasonable, the best thing might be to say that Elias suspected bandits or sabateurs of camping near the old Indian ruins, and the explosion indicates they're armed and might be coming down to rob or rough up the townsfolk, so it would be wise to get inside if you're a kid or a woman, or get armed if your a man of appropriate characteristics. Position is key. We don't want battle to start in the thick of town so we'll want some distance from it. Being stuck far from it isn't wise either, it can provide cover if you need to withdraw and you want any sounds of battle to actually be heard by the citizens. Find a place a small distance away near a chokepoint if you can, or anywhere with some cover and a path of withdrawal. You should ideally be able to keep them at a distance with your gun or engage in melee if they close in.

Basically aim for every advantage and keep your options open at all times.

These things are fast. They have some rudimentary communication, but don't seem to be all that smart or forward thinking. Unfortunately they seem to be smart enough to wait until sundown to attack, because as cave dwellers they would be at a great disadvantage in the sun. If you can use light or fire to your advantage, it should be disproportionately effective against them. They have an unspecified (but small) amount of oval shaped translucent shields which you shouldn't trust your weapons to penetrate. Of course fire can go around shields, but it is a double edged sword.

If you think you can do it without making a giant liability, then setting some blazes around the town might be a deterrent. You should probably wait in ambush outside of the town - maybe half way down the mountain. Are you more effective in melee or with a weapon? Do whichever gives you the greatest advantage. They have some defenses against firearms, and are relatively strong and violent, but possess limited ranged potential.

I wait for it to grow nearer, silent but for the rustle of the dry grasses and the faint stirring of steel on stone.

It moves slowly, but purposefully, sweeping it's head from side to side as it descends towards the village bringing to mind both a lizard and wildcat.

Suddenly, it jerks it's head around and I launch myself forward, putting all my power into a simple, low right hook.

I plant a knee in the back, pinning it and following through the blow to twist it's head fully around. I gaze into the single metallic pit in the mask where a face would be as I hold it down.

For a moment it shudders as I near the snapping point, every limb straining against me, feet digging into the dust, claws pulling against the gravel.

And for gods sake don't screw it up. Among the worst things you can do in a situation like this is refuse their food or women, you got past the food now get past the women.

I'm sure you're compatible enough to figure things out. Being different species just means you don't have to worry about getting her pregnant. Um, probably. Dunno if halfbreeds are possible.

...more than half a meter? That's barely two feet. That's not enough of a size difference to matter. You're making up excuses! Just enjoy it. It'll be fine.

Fine, we step through the curtain of water. It is cold and somewhat salty. Sputtering we slip a little on the smooth floor and sit a moment to clear our eyes.

The air smells of perfumes, cloth, candles and those scents common to a woman's quarters, albeit a somewhat alien edge to them.

She proffers us a cup, holding it in both hands to conceal the slightest shaking, the only sound our breathing mingled with the waterfall.

Take the cup, and raise it to your lips, but don't touch it to them or drink. Take a second to look at her to see if she nods to gives any indication or anything.

Can't turn down a lovely lady, even if she is blue and of a different species. Accept the cup and drink it.

A nod from her and we lift it to our lips, maintaining eye contact all the way.

The drink is is something alcoholic, slightly bitter, but with a sweet aftertaste. She smiles, and looks slightly relieved as we return the empty goblet.

The cup will now turn out to have been laced with drugs or poison of some kind.

Slightly bitter... almonds? You might want to try harder to find an anti-poison treatment.

She turns and places the cup on a small cabinet, leaning against it for a moment as she draws a breath.

For a moment we distractedly wonder if we should do something... why would she bother with poison?... did this kind of thing happen to my father on his adventures?... what was it he said about women who move in gowns like they are wearing nothi-

She sighs, there is a click as gust of wind whirls about the room, extinguishing almost all of the candles. A shiver runs through our body and we hear the sound of damp cloth hitting stone.

Our eyes take a moment to adjust to the sudden dimness, our mind likewise pauses to adjust to the unreality of it all, but our body is already moving towards her, arrayed towards the task ahead.

She reaches out for us and we take her hand, drawing her into our lap. If this is going to be her people's introduction to the outside world we are going to do it right.

She draws our hand to her breast and we feel the beating of her heart, quickening like her breaths, the smoothness of her skin.

"Dotom'kux..."

"ehh?"

She presses our hand more firmly against her skin and repeats herself.

"Dotom'kux"

"Ah... Elias."
