We've made it to Fai's mountain. Unfortunatly the telestones do not take us to places like people's homes but it's not that long of a walk to there from what I heard.
Su has been quiet lately. I'm sure she's focused on our journey.

Don't you have any concept of hot or cold? Give her all your clothes! Also get a fire going! She needs warmth! Uh, don't set her on fire though that's too much heat.

Find shelter! Somewhere that's shielded from the wind!

I-it's ok-k-kay. I'm-m sure he j-just d-d-didn't realizze.
-----------------------------------

Ah fuck! I forgot humans need warmth! Dammit, I don't have any body heat myself.

He turns to look at Su who is pale and shivering.

Damn it..

He picks her up and runs to a nearby cave. Inside he strips down and gives her all his clothing. Using Item 10 he starts a warm fire in midair. Su puts all the clothing close against herself and shivers.

"Uhm... Hey, are you okay?"

>"I'm f-f-fine G-g-gram."

"Oh okay. Well we'll leave when you're ready."

Good, she's fine.

She devalues herself. Watch out for her, Gram; she's likely to understate her own discomfort. Don't leave the cave until at least 10 minutes after she stops shivering. It takes a while to recover body heat.

That bracelet with the rope attached to it isn't actually that bad an idea; with that you can lead her around obstacles she can't see, without having to hold her hand all the time. Just keep in mind it's rude to yank her around.

In addition to this if she gets sick and dies there's not a 100% guarantee that her eyes will be functional. That is to say it's a good thing you didn't pluck them out earlier. They may be tied to her life force, at least in their own function. Her death or their removal might turn them into junk items until you have the entire collection.

It's been twenty minutes now and she's still shivering... My little layer of clothing and 10 aren't working. Damn it... Should I make a dash for shelter? Teleport back?

You are NOT stealing that. Not right now anyways. You don't want to burn your bridges with this guy, he's probably too dangerous to just take on and he might be the only one who can help you if you get damaged again. Ask him about it though, if it does anything. Maybe he can be convinced to just give it to you if he isn't using it.

And Gram, you ever think that maybe you don't need ALL the Items? If you got most of them, became stronger than anyone else and solved your energy problem you'd have no need for things like Su's eye and trinkets like this.

Anyways, I'm not sure what you can have added... you could use another eye if that's possible. Ask him what some useful options might be.

...Remember what you said about the items? That they were once part of a larger being, and collecting them all would grant great power? Suppose the first part is true, and the second is a lie of omission. All of the items are strong, some massively, so what's special about the whole set? It is all the pieces of a massively powerful being.

Simply put, if you bring us all together you might loose everything. The Items, your life, and everyone elses. Even for us it could well be a kind of death.

But hey we can't be sure. Go ahead on your errand. But if you listen to me you'll take items from every abuser of them, and leave the weak trinkets scattered.

You want it and you don't know why? I'll tell you the only possible reason why: BECAUSE YOUR BITCH MASTER PROGRAMMED YOU TO. Who knows what she meant to do by it, but does it matter? Do you really want to accomplish what she willed for you?

If he doesn't disengage, then use the teleporter stones to go to the other Cecil's place. You don't want to fight this guy, since he will kill you if you try it.
Tell Cecil about this duplicate, and repeat everything it said. You might be able to get a nice reward out of this; maybe re-usable teleporter stones, since you'd be spending your last charge on telling him about this.

The flames are uh... fire magic. Magic armor. Keeps him from being burned, burns other stuff. The blue blades are soul magic, extensions of his soul, quite sharp, non-physical, intended to carve off pieces of someone's soul, such as yours. Avoid at all costs.

>"it's okay. Just keep these things in mind okay? Don't forget that too much pressure is bad, girls don't like that."

Okay.

Gram continues to fondle her. He feels something stir within him but he suppresses it.

>"Are you just gonna touch my boob all day?"

"huh? Oh! Sorry, I lost track."

>"God, you're like a little kid."

she starts pulling down the cloak past her waist.

Or maybe it has something to do with having been repaired? Maybe something inside you was broken all this time, and only now are you truly alive.

Either way, it's nothing to be afraid of, Gram. Accept it, and you will learn to enjoy it, and see where it leads when you find a girl you want to be with. I don't really suggest you do anything but inspect Tikka, of course. That wouldn't be a good first time.

He was gloating over hitting you; this thought is what prompted us punishing him like this:
>Yeah I hit her. And? What are you gonna do?
He'll be fine. Just take him back to the house.
You might need help from Tikka or Cecil fur this part, but you want to use water from Item 21 (That's the bowl one) to heal yourself, then dig your brother's finger out of Gram's possessions, then sprinkle some water from Item 21 on it, and finally jab him with a Phoenix Down.

Tell Tikka she can research him all she wants if she'll help you with this.
This is the process for bringing your brother back. You agreed to help him find the items, and hitting you was completely uncalled for and unacceptable. He doesn't deserve to use your brother's life as a bargaining chip; he knows you can't leave until your brother is alive, and he's abusing that fact. If you want to stay with him now, then it won't be because he's making you.

we aren't saying to leave him, just make it more clear that you are with him because you want to. he thinks you are just with him because he promised to get your brother back. we just can't let him think hurting people has no consequences though. we don't WANT to hurt him but sometimes it's the only way to get to him.
>>
No. 224317 ID: e67080

Su, Im going to have to disagree.

We may have harmed him, but its only because we have no other real method of stopping him from hurting others. If we ould reward him for a job well done, I would gladly consider such an option.

However, as to why we hurt him, as a pseudo-adult Gram must understand the limits of anger. One is allowed to be angry, one is allowed to act on anger, but ones should never hurt those trying to help him. He did NOT need to hurt you, he needed to calm down and think. Or ask you to leave him alone for a moment. childish antics such as attacking someone under his protection are not acceptable. His walking out was not something we would hurt Gram over, it is understandable and does little harm... he is not allowed to take out his anger on the nearest person however.
>>

I wouldn't say that, Su, since we haven't killed dozens of innocent people.

However, you're missing the point. Him being able to hold your brother's life over your head is making it hard for him to think unselfishly.
Once your brother is alive your only reasons for being there are because you want to and to keep up your end of the bargain. He's convinced that you would leave as soon as your brother was alive, and being proven wrong would force him to reconsider how he views the world. He needs you to be there by choice, so your brother needs to come back now.

In the terms you used, as long as he has your brother as leverage he sees no bond between you two.

As far as the hurting goes, we're using a carrot-and-stick approach. So far we've only used this ability when he did something completely an undeniably evil, or when he was ignoring our warnings about something that would kill him.

Anyway, drag him back to Tikka. If you can use Item 6 to carry him that would make it a lot easier.

If there was any other option for us to use to keep him in line, we'd use it. I mean, he could've just shoved you or something. We can order Gram to RUN, STOP, SAVE or KILL, and also PUNISH him. What would you suggest we do in response to his violent behavior? Talk his ear off?

He'd think we were lying to convince him that it would be ok to revive your brother now so you could skip-out on your part of the agreement. He things everybody in this world is as selfish and self-centered as he is, and the only way to counter that is to provide him with a situation that he can't explain away with selfish behavior. We'll just tell Gram we said it was ok, and insisted on it.

Remember Su, a lot of the good he did was at our insistence. Still you and us did have an effect on him and something did stir in his stone cold heart. The problem is he isn't like any other race, he is artificial and his mind is created with limits and rules and compulsions he can't just get over by effort alone, and changes to that can change his nature or just break him. And this is besides what we think was a very traumatic life he's had.

Tikka was... prying into his personality, and he reacted very badly. We think he removed or changed a part of himself by damaging his head. He might have been forced to love his master, but he still hated her so he tore out his ability to do so. Not sure if real "caring" was ever part of him at all.

So please let us help him however we can, ok?

Have Tikka hold the gauntlet so we can talk to her directly.

I believe what you say, Gram does have some good in him. Its just going to be all of our responsibilities to help Gram in our own ways. Unfortunately, with Gram being a fairly powerful person, we have to act as the 'forced stop' to anything he does that can go really bad.

As such, do forgive us, continue to be his guardian angel to lead his path, while we must be the strong hand and pain when things go wrong. Hopefully, eventually we will not need to force his hand at times.

Hey, Tikka. We're Item 7 - the gauntlet on his arm. We have one small favor to ask you, and after that we'll go visit somebody else and leave you to do your research in peace.
Su is currently holding a bone that's the remains of her brother. You're more than capable of bringing him back from the dead, if not on your own than with items lying around the house. It should take you all of five minutes, and we'll answer whatever questions you may have to the best of our ability - which is probably useful, since Gram isn't all that talkative right now.
To sweeten the deal, we happen to know of a paper Golem who will be in the area shortly. If you'd like to do research on a far more cooperative subject then we can arrange that for you.

If you have trouble resisting the lure of a rock cock or want some half-golem kids, then I'm not going to say one word of opposition.

His equipment was recently repaired. We don't know if he even had any before then.

I'd rather you do your part first, but I can't force you. I'll just say that Su deserves this and let your conscience keep you to your word.

Anyway, that Cecil we brought back there is almost certainly a clone. He thought Dart was still alive, and seemed to have spotty memories past that point. Judging from the dust, decay, and damage, he's been there since the place collapsed.

Too late, but it's nothing we haven't seen before.
Have you considered getting stickers with eyes on them, and using those instead of drawing them on every morning? Heck, the I Shop probably has ones in stock that look like just like real eyes.

How have your travels been?
Earned any money while we were gone?

Oh, and Gram's at Cecil's place right now. It's neutral territory so you can't kill him there, but he can't kill you either.
We're trying to stay out of your feud, but he recently did something horrible and we're ready to kill him if he steps any further out of line.

I have to ask, though. What's the flavor of your goal?
Are you out for revenge? Bringing justice to a criminal? Protecting others from the harm he would cause?
The nuances matter here, and will affect how we assist you.

Beyond that, what if your goals were in conflict? If you had to choose between bringing back your mistress or killing Gram, and losing the other choice forever, which would you pick?

What is the least you would accept while still considering your journey a success?

@Tikka: Oh, and if you feel like fixing that crack in his face then go right ahead.

@Teri: So, how have you been handling life without dew drops? Have you been handling life without it? How well does that amulet help? Does it block the pain when you have an attack?

I have no idea what I'm not supposed to be looking at here. Your body is somewhat unusual, to be honest.

Hey, you know how that painfree amulet sounds like an awesome idea? Well, keep in mind that pain serves a useful purpose. It tells you when you've injured yourself. You will want to have her take it off every now and then so she'll know if there's something wrong with her. Like, a sprained ankle or something.

Those are a lot of questions.
No I do not want sticker eyes, those look weird.

I have on me G23. Teri took the rest of the money for supplies. I was able to get a lot of money by hunting down a wild Crocadon.
My journey is one of revenge. I wish to kill Gram so he may pay for what he has done. While I do wish to see master again I will not bring her back until Gram is dead. I will accept nothing less.

@I Shop:
How long will it take?
I'm pretty sure she would rather it be done carefully instead of quickly.
Aside from that, now that we've got the ballpark down lets start the haggling~

You plan to take the information you gain from constructing these artifacts to create cheaper versions for sale. She's basically paying your research costs, so you'll be making money from the word go.
Rather than asking for a cut of your profits or a lower price, how about you offer a permanent guarantee on the artifacts? Any time a problem is found or it needs repair, Tikka or any Von Central can bring it in to have it fixed at no additional cost.
I think you'll agree that's a reasonable offer.

@Teri:
Maybe, maybe not. We're talking about one of the most powerful people on the continent, and curing it might require cross-discipline magic.
Also, he might know about a powerful healing artifact; Item 21 has healed everything we've seen thrown at it, but I don't know if it works for soul diseases. If that doesn't do it then there might be one that heals souls, and a wizard is far more likely to know about magic artifacts than a soul mage.
Oh, and most Dark Elves seem to be strongly opposed to any sort of magic that's an affront to the circle of life or the natural order, so that's another reason.

@Su: Go get something to eat, then. Just avoid touching anything that glows and you should be fine.

Tell us more about what happened when Gram was damaged, how he treated her differently and how things "went downhill". And anything about what she had you two do, and how you she designed you to act and think and feel and such.

What would you do if Gram were fixed? Totally brought back to original condition, not messed up in the head, someone who never would have done what he did when he was damaged in the mind? Because that might just happen.

I was only alive for a short time before Master died so I do not know much about her past. What I do know may answer a few of your questions.

Master had not family or friends that I knew of. both her parents had been killed by the lead of our country Lord Nic for treason. There was no evidence but his word was enough to have them killed.

Branded as the child of a traitor she was given no support from anyone. She had no money, no family, nothing.
Except her skill. She was great at manipulating puppets. With them she could steal food and money and never be caught. She did this for many years to support herself.

Gram is even more unknown to me... He used to treat master just as I did, with love. Even more so then me.
Master had mentioned that she had never had a boyfriend or lover her whole life. I guess Gram was kinda like a replacement for that.
After the attack he spoke to her less and less often.. Soon he just came to hate her. I don't know what triggered it but..

Anyway even if he were his old self I would still hate him. I would still want him dead.

My purpose.... I was made to be Master's companion.
She was always such a lonely girl and created me to keep her company. We spent all our time together.

But many years ago she became attracted to another man. My heart was broken but I was also glad that she found someone else, a human to be with.
The man though was a frequent drinker however and a angry drunk. One night he came in with a gun raging about how they would have been together if not for me. He fired and i took the bullet for my master. It damaged my core however and I could no longer care for her. Things were still okay. i did what she wanted out of respect and simple orders. the man began coming in more and more and my anger with him grew as I watched him push around my Master.
I soon became disconnected with her and only went around her when needed. i also came to resent my position. To her I was now nothing more then a doll and in the way of her new relationship.

I couldn't stand it anymore, one day I went out with the intention of killing the man and in response my Master blew off my arm. I turned my anger to her and attacked. I could lie and say I didn't know my own strength but it was a joy killing her. I beat her more then needed and even when she no longer breathed I made sure no one could heal her.
And only now can I truly feel that sting of losing someone.

There's more to companionship than sex; she created you because she wanted a family. Her falling in love with another person didn't mean she would have just discarded you, and in truth the information we have gleaned makes it sound like she considered you more of a brother or son than anything.
You know this. You keep it buried away in the back of your mind, but the truth makes your misconceptions ring hollow.
Consider: You didn't go out to kill him out of jealousy, you did it because he was hurting her and spoiling your family relationships. You said as much yourself.

You've been broken for a long time, and only now can you look back and weep at the destruction you have wrought.

It shouldn't be that hard; have her vaporize the water in Item 21 then rain it down on the town. After that it's a simple magic of jabbing all the corpses with Phoenix Downs, followed by grave robbing to get the ones who have already been buried.

@Tikka: Short version? His master's abusive boyfriend got drunk and tried to kill her. Gram got the face hole from taking the killing blow for her. That destroyed his ability to feel emotion, which eventually lead to him killing his master and setting off on a quest to get the Items for... Some reason or other.
When we first met him he was walking away from the giant char-broiler he had just made out of Resad. We forced him to save the town from his fire, but by that point there were corpses and ashes littering the streets.
We're going to try to make him at least resurrect everybody.

... Oh, and don't tell Su about this just yet.

Yes... You're right...
I still have someone who depends on me. I have things to make right. I can fix things.

Grams goes to get dressed. Tikka stays outside and waits. He leaves and she notices a different aura about him.

"What're you gonna do now?"

>"I'm sure the voices told you. There's some things i need to take care of."

"But the voices got me a book! I wanna go with you!"

>"We'll be back soon. I 'need' to do this first."

"... here."

She goes into cecil's room and grabs something. When she comes out she hands Gram a golden watch

"What is this?"

>"if you say someone's name into it it'll help point you to where they are. If you're having trouble finding someone, or if you need to find me just use that. And bring it back when you're done with it."

"Will do, thanks."

I'm going to leave Tikka and the Cecil clone here and go back to Resad. Do I have everything i need? should I take Su?

So, what's the plan? It's hard to say exactly how everyone will respond to someone barging in and saying he's going to bring back all the dead. I know in an elf village that wouldn't fly at all. You could tell them that you want to bring back just those who died in the fire, but that seems odd unless you tell them you did it. That might be a bad idea, but its better to be upfront on it then someone recognizing you as the one who did it.

First thing is to wake up Su. Being here with a survivor as a friend will help with first impressions. Next see who is in charge around here so you can talk with them, if anyone is.

"Yes. I want you to come with me while we do so."

>"Gram, you sound different. did something happen?"

Gram finishes packing up. He motions for Su to follow him. As they walk he begins to explain what happened to him. Su listens intently and as they walk she holds his hand. A brief memory of the dream flashes in Gram's mind but he pushes it away. they arrive at Resad and speak to the nearest men

The man describes a group of travelling Wizards who are famous. As soon as he says that two men appear and take Su. The priestess gestures for Gram to follow her and they all enter the temple.
He is led downstairs. Female attendants take Su and walk down one path while Gram is led down a different path.

"Uhm... Where are you taking her...?"

>"We insists that our guests stay in seperate rooms if not wed."

Uhm... Well they're very gentle people. It seems that for some reason they literally can't put up a fight. They're quick to forgive so long as it means no more fighting. If you befriend one they'd give their life to try to protect you.
Of course there are a few who aren't like that but they're very rare.
They're great singers and use Song Magic to defend themselves against animals or to just sound good.
Most of their cities are underwater but they usually stay on land just to interact with others.
I believe their mating season is next month. They can have children all times of the year but because they get prego so easily they tend to save actual penetration for this season. Something about the God of Fertility or something, I forget. The males with the greatest singing voice usually get their mate, this is only if they don't have one since merfolk pick a mate for life. After everyone has a partner they get busy.

They've recently started using the Gold Standard for money because of increased trade with the humans.
Anything else?

Fortunately, Gram managed to wild-teleport away before she suffered anything more than traumatic brain damage, and luck landed them in Temple. When The Collector showed up to finish the job one of the Temple priestesses blew the crap out of him with a Light spell.

Of course you wouldn't have kids, but hey it might be fun with him anyways. Maybe you can say golems "don't count" heh. So, are you planning for you first, who is also the father of your children, to be you one and only? With your interests I'd expect you to sample around, then find "the one" to down settle with. No offense.

Anyways we should go check on our other golem friend, Mu should be headed here sometime not long from now. We want her and Gram to work things out here, and Gram has an item to help Mu's friend Teri. Probably gonna be a little tense but not violent. On the plus side you get to study a paper golem.

Light magic seems to be really effective against him, so it would probably help to practice Holy or something if you want to travel with Gram.

Oh, hey! Cecil has a bunch of grimoires and books on magic, right? Once you get the notebook have it copy down all of those. After all, why limit an unlimited notebook to notes on different species?

Your master still loves him in spite of everything. If you bring her back to find that you killed Gram, then she's going to see you as the person who took Gram away from her and resent you for it. This isn't a conscious thing she would be able to control, this is just how the human mind works.

If you kill Gram before you bring her back then both of you are going to wind-up miserable.
I've been trying to avoid telling you this because it's a complicated subject that most humans have trouble understanding, and since you're not human I don't hold much hope for being able to explain it to you.

You still want me to spare this man?

Remember how you told us before that some of your memories are fuzzy? Well, it looks like your core has suffered a bit of damage.
No matter what your goals are, you'll be a lot more capable and competent if you aren't being hampered by damage.
It's a good thing you're already headed to the home of a master alchemist.

Oh, also, your master's face will be fine when she's brought back. There won't be a scratch on her. Magic is kinda awesome like that.

It seems you are all rather hell bent on trying to change my mind. You mentioned a Alchemist who may heal me? How about we make a deal.

If she does so and I still want Gram dead you will help me kill him no matter what.
In return I won't attack him until I have been fixed. Also you must help me get fixed as soon as possible.

Gram grabbed you and fled here, to Temple, where a Priestess easily trounced The Collector with light magic.

Also, there's an Angel who's going to be coming to Cecil's place with us. Unless I'm sorely mistaken Angels are almost living and breathing light magic made manifest, so The Collector is in for a wold of hurt if he shows up while she's around.
