It's dark.

Light streams in through the window. Tired eyes stare out of it; despite the light being at a blinding level, they do not look away.

A second line dances in, and spells her name out.

The other line doesn't seem happy and skitters over the place before crossing over the other line.

Actually, you feel fine now. The noise is dimming away and your head no longer hurts.

But, uh.

It appears there is a cat folk staring at you. He glows in the darkness.

Try a cautious hello, see how it responds?

A huge grin set upon it's face.

Don't listen to them, my dear~ I am no harm. To you, anyway.

..He can hear you guys.

Sam sits up, shivering. Something wasn't right about him at all. His voice...it is so very familiar.

"Who are you?"

I go by many names. You may call me Mal.

The devil? No, no; the devil is a fool. I am...an angel~ a leading light.

His body moves like a shadow across the room, and in moment he stands next to Sam.

Poor little girl, thrown in a game that you cannot control~ Things are not for you to worry about. Samantha, weren't you doing something? Bringing that down for dear Axel?

"I...yeah..Dragging it. Right."

She gets to tugging it down, the newcomer hovering around silently.

In about 15 minutes, she's got it down in front of the staff room. She'll need Axel's help it flip it on it's side to get it in.

Sam opens to the door, and Mal sweeps past her.

Axel's awake, standing up, looking like he was about to exit the room.

>"Samantha! What took you so long?"

"I...fell asleep upstairs, sorry."

She pauses, then realizes it's rude to not introduce Mal.

"Oh, this guy is Mal. He found me upstairs."

Don't talk to him about me. He can't see you. He isn't blessed like you. Unlike you, Samantha, he can not call upon to his own mind for guidance. Repay me by staying quiet about your blessing; is that too much to ask?

"...No"

Good. I'm glad to hear.
>>
No. 482279 ID: 1e72ae

Try not to talk to Mal while Sam is there. While he may have heard us(the voices) for a bit, he'll probably think of it as an effect of just being really really tired. We can try to convince him of the shared existence the next time we're with him, but until then don't mention us. Also, anyone that you can see through probably cannot be seen by others.

Go get that water, and have a chat with Mal once Sam is out of hearing range.

"!! Nothing! Uh, will you help me drag the mattress in? I brought one down, it's outside the room."

>"Yeah, sure."

((okay switching sam to firstperson bc im a lazy shit))

I know now that Mal isn't...natural. He's real, but not real, right?

Why should I listen to the all of you?

Axel heads out the room and I follow him. It's easy to pull the mattress in with his help, and we prop it into a corner.

[I mixed up the names, sorry.]

Because we have good advice most of the time? We haven't actually been that useful. I guess you are free to ignore us, but most of what we tell you is stuff you would(or should) already do.
>>
No. 482289 ID: d42c7a

Yeah, we're basically just extra thinkers. We help you come up with ideas and plans maybe faster than you would on your own. We're here to help! (mostly!) And we're pretty transparent, and we don't come with our own agenda or nothing.

Creepy cat dude though... definitely got something going on.

I suppose you guys are right. Everything you say is backed by logic-I'll trust you.

Sam, I can listen to your personal thoughts as well. Do not forget. I don't know what else to tell you, other than what I have. I will guide you through ~everything. If they tell you to do something, and I tell you different...You know who to listen to, hmm?

...Yeah.
>>
No. 482314 ID: d42c7a

...and why should she trust you more than us? We're disembodied outsiders, here. We have no stake in this. No angle to play. The only interest we have to work for is hers. And our own amusement, I suppose.

You however, exist (at least partially) in Sam's world. That means you have your own interest to act in. And what's in your best interest may not coincide with Sam's!

So how about you tell us what your game is? Knowing that would go a long way towards building trust.
>>
No. 482315 ID: 1e72ae

So Mal, can you actually touch anything or can you only suggest like the rest of us?

>So how about you tell us what your game is? Knowing that would go a long way towards building trust.
How much must I say it? I am only here to assist...Same as you.
As for interacting with the world, I cannot-I exist only in Samantha's mind. I suppose if I were to touch her, though, her body would react through psychosomatic means-if I, say, shoved her, she would fall down though anyone else wouldn't be able to tell.

Don't get pissed at him, he's had a long day(probably) and didn't mean it like that; I meant it more as a let him know once you are done cooking. If you want to be mad at him, make him help cook and give him the boring parts.(peeling potatoes) That way, you can get him to learn where things are in the kitchen for when you make him cook next time without him having to fumble for 20/30 minutes.(which should be the next meal)

I don't trust Mal, but that's probably because he was born of pain and sounds creepy. We don't have much of a reason to trust him, but why shouldn't we? I mean, if what he says is true, and he only lives in her head, her probably wants to keep her alive, at least so he can have a host. Also who's making dinner right now?

Born OF pain? Do not discredit me so; I was indeed THE pain. I had to...Knock around her brain a little so that I could properly interact with Sam.

Axel is currently making dinner.

Not helping your case buddy. Sam maybe you outta take it easy for the night, relax, take in this whole "Mal" thing. Axel is already unsure of your sanity, so not mentioning the black-out-inducing-pain-monster-who's-name-literally-means-bad, is a good idea for now. But once he starts to trust you, maybe after a raid or two, he outta know

When you take a rest, put on a blindfold; this should stop you from seeing him shove you which would actually stop him from pushing/shoving you. In this case, seeing is believing, and that belief can hurt.
It should only work if she thinks it will though, on the basis that if she thinks Mal touching her won't cause her pain, she won't react with pain. Since he is only able to touch her in a psychosomatic manner.

nice... now sam has not only us contradicting each other but also Mal with which we are happily distrusting each other...

Also Mal, it doesn't really help her for you to be so clingy...

Let's all settle down a bit, relax and try to survive a bit...

I suggest we first try to do something about this survivor/looting/zombie deal and become a bit more familiar with each other.

Also, you are doing a horrible job of convincing her Mal. I mean, you could have waited until she was used to you and sure of telling him, then you could have convinced her to put it off until tomorrow. (and the one after that and so on)

I'm sorry for being so...Direct with that, Sam. Just understand I am here for your best intentions.

Better; now all you have to do is help her with any big problems that arise and earn her trust that you are actually there to help.

Take a breather, Sam. Voices having an argument in your head is always a strain on the mind. Since you took a martial arts class, they should've taught you some meditation exercises. Try one of those out while you wait for dinner to be finished.
