I guess this needs a proper thread for this, as it’s not in any of the other canon things I’ve done?
Either way, discuss away about this wannabe Visual Novel.
Who is best girl?
What kind of horrid indecent things do you want to do to them? (Holding hands!? Gods, that lewd!)
Who will win the annual spelling bee at the end?
Etc…

>You know it's kinda amazing how well your art style goes well with the Visual Novel type.
My style consist of drawing the upper body of people and pasting them on static backgrounds… which is exactly what visual novels consist of. Who’d knew they would fit so well together.

I’m not super happy how it came out myself, so it’s still up in the air if that will be how she looks in the actual quest. So until her lower half is completely revealed in the quest proper, it’s still possible for it to change a bit.

Maybe a more gentle curve, so it's not uh.. protruding quite so overtly.

I could stand the Madam's abdomen being about 1/3
shorter, so that she's more disimilar to the overtly serpentine Khrax. The ship may have sailed, already, though

So, some musings about interstellar civilizations!

So I noticed a few things. This setting seems to have modern technology as a baseline, have robots that respond to vocal commands, and have several civilizations capable of interstellar travel.

Based on current projections, that seems to imply some things that older sorts of space opera and science fiction seems to have ignored, or noticed only semi-regularly.

Here's the concepts:

1.) If your civilization is usefully and interestingly interstellar, you are capable of putting together absurd amounts of energetic, computational, technological and material resources and moving them about and doing useful stuff with them. Otherwise you wouldn't be interstellar in the first place.

2.) To get to this point, you would likely need a highly automated economy, and at least somewhat useful AI or lots of expert systems

3.) At that point, most people and most skills would be unemployable, and most of the normal people would be living large on the plenty and the income and credits that everyone gets just by breathing; thus a true post-scarcity economy

4.) There will always be some sort of wealth and something that only a few people (like those that own all the robots and robot factories) have. Those would be the only people worth taxing, and therefore, auditing.

5.) Most people would be spending very little time doing a vocation or actual job for actual useful (beyond baseline) amounts of money. Maybe a few hours a week. A 'computer programmer' would be, say, mostly, 'part time professional AI nanny/mother/grade school teacher', for example.

6.) Most people would, when not compelled to work for food/shelter/healthcare/etc., probably spend lots of time doing whatever interests them. For a good chunk of the population, that would be sampling pleasures.

7.) Most civilizations by this point would, as a matter of course, make a push to develop vices that aren't harmful, so as to not implode. For example, people are beginning to develop synthehol, like as in star trek synthehol that doesn't get you hung over or addicted but gives you the pleasurable drunkenness and there's a pill that immediately sobers you up from it, from the class of drugs that Valium is a part of. Most other civilizations would no doubt have the same thing. Also video games and sports and obtaining social position would become relatively more important.

8.) Our hero therefore needs to open up his goddamn eyes, start collecting his basic income, realize that he can actually go do pretty much whatever he wants, go get some new clothes printed, get whatever neural cybernetic enhancement or neural lace will actually useful plug him into the local infosphere, plug into whatever AI life-assistant service there is, and go partake of the free 'utterly harmless' intoxicants like the synthehol and pot equivalents, and start to actually really enjoy himself and let loose!

As a massive fucking Xenophile myself, I can say damn me for not doing this sooner.
>Dang Kaktus, where can I find shark centipedes in Starbound?
Nowhere, as it’s pretty much just something I threw together in a few minutes in the pixel program I use. The shark head, on the other hand, is apparently part of Starbound’s creature creator or something.
>Someone plays overwatch it seems.
Her logo was the first thing that came to mind when I was trying to come up with something pink and nerdy. On the same note, I’m a bit disappointed that everyone missed the overwatch reference at the start of the quest.

>We should probably take a vote on how okay Vic is with anal.
>Everyone panicking and jumping to conclusions as soon as the word ovipositor is mentioned.
Just according to keikaku. (Note: keikaku means plan.)

>I certainly don't begrude you your popularity, but I wish those other posters would show such enthusiasm for some plot based quests.
To be fair, there will always be more people posting when the question is a clearly defined “choose which character you like the most” kind of deal. I was surprised to see so many people actually discussing which one to choose for other reason than just popularity.
>Nothing gets people to post like waifus.
Also, waifus are best suggestion bait.

>I still cannot see how it is physically possible for madam to get dressed. At least in that thing she's wearing.
Its alien technology, I don’t have to answer shit.
>She's quite flexible.
That’s an understatement if I’ve ever heard one.

>Thus a true post-scarcity economy.
The world the quest is set in is not a post-scarcity economy. While they have robots that can do the more menial tasks at hand (like delivering pizza), the world is consuming more culture than it ever has before, thus creating a lot of demands for more cultural work. Plus, post-scarcity would mean that they can create material and energy from thin air, which they cannot.
>So canonically, did he actually say lots of those suggestions we gave and those were the ones she replied to?
Just assume Vic said everything about humans that you guys suggested… also assume that Xi’ankh is both kind of tipsy and focusing on a game at the same time, so she probably missed some stuff. But yes, she knows more about humans than what was written in the update.

Post scarcity: not necessarily material and energy from thin air. More that they've got enough useful automation and economic productivity (and energy to fuel it) that most people have their basic needs, and quite a bit beyond, taken care of as a matter of course. That large swathes of products that are part of economic output are free or mostly free. A hybrid economy would probably have a basic income, a lot of automation, and a decent amount of things for free.

>Uh Kaktus, that seemed to be a lot out of left field. Usually there would be more hints in the character's thought process to hint he was thinking about this and saw this as the only alternative throughout the night.
Go back and re-read some of Vic’s inner dialog. He does make allusions to what he has planned more than once. Here’s some examples:

“It might be the liquid courage talking… or just the fact that a man on the gallows will do anything…”
“Tomorrow morning won’t be able to be ruined by a simple hangover, one way or another.”
“…but that’s tomorrow… which is already too late. Unless you find someone else first…”
“Going by how things have been going so far, there won’t be a next time…”

That, and going by everything else he says, you can’t blame him for being deeply depressed.
(It’s also a bit of a reference to Leisure suit Larry 1, where he commits suicide if he’s still a virgin when the night ends.)

>...I am not sure where the idea of energy and matter from thin air came from...
It was more of an exaggeration than anything…
>Our income so grossly outstrips our output that we literally cannot spend resources fast enough to run into difficulties.
While they are way closer to that goal compared to humanity, they still have a way to go. They simply haven’t found a way to reliable harvest enough material / energy for the sheer size of their population yet.
>You mean the bag of d.varitos, didn't know gremlins were cannon.

I’m glad that people find my new quest interesting and worth reading.
>Ending abruptly would leave a bad taste in many of our mouths, previous hints and video game references notwithstanding.
I’m not going to abruptly end something I like to do like this without good reason. So unless the whole quest goes down in a big ball of flaming glory, Vic will probably be fine… for the most part.

>I think it's an accomplishment that you made some alien races that are alien enough not to really have any sexual features humans find attractive.
I deliberately designed all the aliens to be as far from the standard “human with wrinkles in their forehead” kind of deal you usually see with this kind of things. It’s kind of the point of the quest, to see if you can still find love in such strange environment.
>Though you're cheating a bit by having 2/3 of them shaped mostly like tubes.
But… but… t-tubes? TUBES! TUUUUBEEES!? You can never have enough tubes!
>I like the quest so far, but I kinda agree. Too much Xeno, not enough phile.
I’m sorry that you find them a bit too strange for your liking, but that will probably not change. If anything, things will probably go even more Xeno before it’s all over.
>Honestly, I disagree. These aliens are all adorable to a teratophile like me.
Wait, is teratophile really the right word to describe interest in something alien? Eh, no matter, good to hear that you find them cute.
>If in the fullness of mission creep, there ends up being a cute blue biped for us filthy casuals, I wouldn't be at all displeased.
That would kind of ruin to whole point of the quest. As I said, I deliberately made them weird and strange to really capture the feel of what something alien actually means, that is to say, something that is strange and unfamiliar.
>>

I enjoy how you've humanized your xeno charachters while still maintaining a believably alien physiology. Too many quests pretend human furries are acceptible aliens. Question though: Will we meet any aliens with totally different mind sets? With different logic, common sense, core values, or perhaps with different mental functions all together? And If you're referring to enemy quest than it sort of does, but mentally every alien is essentially human with one major difference. Which is fine for it's purposes, we see those characters a lot and it helps keep them grounded and relate-able. The same is true for asteroid quest.
That said, this quest has a ton of opportunities to throw us curve balls and I think something completely out of left field could be fun to explore.

>Question though: Will we meet any aliens with totally different mind sets? With different logic, common sense, core values, or perhaps with different mental functions all together?
While I do want to make things as alien and odd as possible, I still have limits to my writing skill. That, and I’m trying to keep the cast at a minimum.
>Are you thinking of doing more in this universe quest wise?
If things keep going as they do now, this quest might get a sequel at some point (with new alien waifu species, maybe with the twist of playing a girl this time or a gay / bi man/woman… or something). First, though, I’d like to finish Strange bedfellows and Will We Dream.

>Is the protagonist of this quest literally an Albino Hunchback?
Albino, yes. Hunchback, no. While he is a bit overweight and unfit, he’s body isn’t deformed in any way. His face, on the other hand… though what extent is up to the reader, as I’m not going to draw him.
>So, lads, how about them alien cloaca, huh?
Technically, only one of them has a cloaca… I’ll let you figure out whom.
>Where do you think the giant predatory carnivore got the idea for a pink bow in the original post's image? Are they just popular ornaments or is it something they picked up from humans?
Khrax thinks pink bows are pretty, so of course Qarka is going to wear one.

>pink used to be a savage color bake in early human history because men wore pink shirts because the blood stains never fully washed out of their white linens.
Pedantic note: Human blood stains cloth a yellowish brown rather than pink. Pink has still been historically considered relatively masculine, but that's more due to a conceptual closeness to the highly masculine associated red rather than a direct connection with blood. (Of course, at least that's the case with human blood.)

Your aliens definitely have their unique traits, but I'm curious: Were you relating to Enemy Quest with the ladies? Madame is a high-class lady, Qarka is part of a powerful, combat loving species, and Xi's species has multiple bodies.
Of course, Madame is a bodymorpher, not an empath/telepath; Qarka purposefully displays a softness and doesn't enjoy putting her violent history foreward; and Xi is more of a one-gender puppeteer, only able to think with one mind and see with one body. I could easily also believe it just being a coincidence.

>Pink used to be a savage color bake in early human history because men wore pink shirts because the blood stains never fully washed out of their white linens.
While I’ve heard that theory as well, the reason why Khrax likes pink / red is because that’s the color of blood on their home planets, simple enough. The color clothes gets when splattered with blood is kind of a moot point for them, as they usually wasn’t wearing a lot fabrics before being uplifted, instead wearing more leather / metal armor for protection. Wearing clothes on their upper bodies for decency is something rather new to them.
>All I could think of was UQM's Orz on that line.
It was supposed to be a bit of a shoutout to the Orz, I just misspelled their name because it’s been ages since I played that game.

>Were you relating to Enemy Quest with the ladies?
The only one influenced consciously by Enemy quest is Xi, as the original idea I had for her was way too close to being Bika and had to be changed. Unconsciously though, I can tell that there are similarities there, but they weren’t meant to be like that.
>We're just missing a cyborg.
Sadly, I don’t think there will be any Cyborgs around. There are species that use machines to interact with the rest of the world, sure, but no real cyborgs. Closes thing so far is the Koye you saw in the Essks’s shop, as they are giant lobster / prawn like beings that needs a big suit filled with water to interact with the surface world.
>I think it'd more likely be a living rock lady.
Rock beings on the other hand… hmm… there might be something like that popping up…
>Alot of those are pretty generic alien stereotypes to be honest.
Or generic waifu material. We have the classy, rich lady with a dirty mind, the shy and meek girl who hides a savage beast behind her shyness and the spunky, tomboyish gamer girl.
>Though it seems all the waifus are more like casual sex partners.
While all three of them are currently looking for something a bit less serious than a full-blown relationship, all three are romanceable, though you will have to work for it.

>If the Raolme are able to shape their bones so easily, does it regenerate quickly as well?
Consider that they seem to be able to increase their bone mass to grow spines and claws, they need to have something like that for it to work, yes. Honestly, I haven’t given it much thought as of yet, as this quest world isn’t supposed to be that serious. Just expect things to not make physical sense at times, alright?
>While games for the blind do exist today, I assume the games Zalia's talking about use the neural interface. Is that thing capable of making a blind species see?
While the Raolme can’t see like humans can, they aren’t as blind as they seems. Sure, they can’t see the screen made for a human, but they’ve had time to invent screens able to show things they actually can comprehend. Remember, they did invent interstellar travel without eyes, after all… they are bound to have a few tricks up their sleeves to make that happen.

>So I just wanted to inform everyone that my headcanon voice for Zalia is officially Tim Curry.

So, I'm not gonna try to have vik reverse engineer which ingredients to buy based on what the universal pizza is made up of (dough, cheese, sauce) even though it'd be simple. Its more fun experimenting.

Also I made a roux and bechamel myself today cause my milk is close to expiring cause nobody in my house drinks milk. It was pretty good, but a bit too sticky and it needed some other spice(I decided on paprika actually. Odd coincidence) for next time I make it.

I have like 10 old cookbooks that I like to use cause they have how to make nearly everything from scratch. My mixer cookbook has temperatures (internal and oven) by pound for like 6 types of meat, and even has how to truss a chicken. Why this is in a blender cookbook, I do not know.

And it's worth it. I like that each of these relationships requires some work, and builds up.

It's going to be interesting how your interactions with each of them change as you build up to a more serious relationship.

Also interesting how they feel about the other two. Zalia doesn't seem to mind that at all, and doesn't seem like she'd mind even if things got more serious with her. Xi is cheering us on, but she's a friend (with some teasing) at the moment; it isn't clear how her thoughts on that might change if our relationship with her got more serious. And Qarka doesn't seem to know about the other two at all.

>Kaktus, do you ignore obvious phone autocorrect typos?
If you mean in suggestion, as long as it’s understandable what you’re saying they are fine. If you mean it the quest proper, then I’m sorry, but as much as I’m trying to make sure there aren’t any errors in my vocabulary, English isn’t my first language (or second for that matter) so there’s bound to be some mishaps here and there.
>I sincerely hope the hiatus is an April Fools thing...
The “give me money to see the rest” bit is an April fools thing, sure, but I’m still getting worn out updating Boldly Coming right now. As it’s starting to become a chore to update it, I decided to put it down for a bit so I can spend time on my other two quests instead.

>That teasing with Zalia turned out better than I could have possibly hoped for; thank you for taking that suggestion and running with it.
Well, she like being teased… and the quest is all about going the distance, no?
>I'm really enjoying this quest. I like that you went so far from humanoid, and that you put so much effort into cultural differences and background.
I do try my best to make then as alien and interesting as possible. I was just in the mood for something weird when I started this thing.
>Also interesting how they feel about the other two. Zalia doesn't seem to mind that at all, and doesn't seem like she'd mind even if things got more serious with her. Both Zalia and Xi don’t see themselves in relationships yet, so thing will change. Let just say that the harem ending won’t be easy… (if even possible…)

>You joke, and I do hope this whole post is an April Fool's gag, but do you have a Patreon or similar? This is really well done.
I don’t have a patreon or the like, no. I simply don’t believe that what I’m doing is popular enough to warrant something like that. Besides, if I actually made one, I would probably just stress myself out that I wasn’t doing enough to warrant getting paid for it…
>Almost none of that stuff is relevant. I just like cooking. Sorry to blather on.

The asterisk I realized as soon as I posted (I'd realized it was a footnote symbol and hadn't tried to figure out what it was, before I realized it was probably the asterisk). But yeah, OP and FG are each just the same base symbol with the accent mark reversed, and I misread the picture.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that you should do any more to warrant a Patreon, or stress out about coming up with additional things to offer patrons. I'm suggesting you should put one up solely as a means for paying you to keep doing what you're doing; it's worth it.

Post about it in each of your quests (including in the inevitable announcement you have to make tomorrow to make it clear that your hiatus isn't a gag), and I'd be shocked if you don't get multiple takers.

There is that. You're always welcome to cherry-pick bits you like, or ignore bits you don't, if that makes it easier for you to weave a narrative.

(As a side observation, quests often have interestingly non-linear dialog. I've noticed that in many quests, the QM will post several things someone says, people will reply to several of them, and the QM's subsequent responses are assumed to be stitched into a linear dialogue as though the main character had responded appropriately to each point as it arose. That's a really fascinating property that I haven't seen in any other form of writing.)

>I noticed you were like, adding dialogue from all the suggestions at once. That seemed to really draw out conversations. Was that the problem?
Probably. I do have a bad habit of trying to get all the suggestions involved, which is something I need to change. The main reason why I moved to another quest though is that I really wanted to work with something else for a while… I do have two other quests I want to finish up, after all.
>To be clear, I'm not suggesting that you should do any more to warrant a Patreon, or stress out about coming up with additional things to offer patrons. I'm suggesting you should put one up solely as a means for paying you to keep doing what you're doing; it's worth it.
The main problem is that I myself don’t think what I’m doing is worth any money… so if I did put up a Patreon, I would be hunted by the feeling that I’m not doing enough to warrant… well, anything. So if you really want to support me, write a suggestion instead, use the dis thread a bit or make some fan art or the like. I’ll probably appreciate that a lot more than few dollars that I won’t feel like I deserve.

Hey, the thing about LSD or MDMA is that, in very low doses, as part of an actual therapy session, it can actually help someone who has the functional changes in the brain that cause depression or PTSD... very quickly NOT HAVE THEM. Thereby physically healing the brain, often with only one treatment. Plus, who knows what aliens with weird biokinetic or psychic powers there are! If there's an actual EXPERT, someone trained in it, these sorts of things would be safe to use.

After all, those substances were invented primarily for mental health reasons, they only later became street drugs, and only because of an overzealous ban-happy, anti-communist administration (they could use making drugs that people they didn't like were using illegal as an excuse to raid them and take away their rights, look it up!), that they're illegal in the first place.

It's likely that these things or similar things are used in a therapeutic way because this society has probably gotten to the point where it realizes that a war on drugs and any sort of prohibition is pointless, and that making drugs that are useful available is actually helpful. So that's what I was referring to when I gave my suggestion.

I’ve simply not been in the mood for Boldly coming and have instead worked on some of my other quests. If you’re new to my quests then I’ll give you a fair warning that I tend to jump from quest to quest and focus mostly on one at the time depending on my mood, so some quest might be put on a hiatus for a month or two.
>Hey, the thing about LSD or MDMA is that, in very low doses, as part of an actual therapy session, it can actually help someone who has the functional changes in the brain that cause depression or PTSD... very quickly NOT HAVE THEM.
Boldly coming is set in a complete alien culture, thus drugs, the culture behind it and their effects is radically different from our norm. Taking drugs created for aliens species is ill-advised, as you’ll have no idea what they’ll do to your human mind. (Also, don’t try to convince me, try to convince the characters in the quest instead.)

It's also why they apparently have their claw arms cut off when engaging with non-Khrax partners, so they don't accidentally get slicey dicey in the heat of the moment with somebody who can't regenerate.

In Qarka's case, her being into bondage as a submissive is a plus in that regard, and they probably have bondage gear made specifically for Khrax. The big squick for Vic is the whole 'cutting off her arms' thing, temporary though it may be.

>Just started reading and I still can't stop giggling at the bredgött. Apparently there's an alien species populated by gothenburgians.
I’m pretty sure gothenburgians are aliens to begin with. I even have a picture to prove it! I’m not sure exactly what it is, but it’s clearly not human.

>I feel there must be some better way to introduce VR players to death than that. They could have used a natural disaster or some other kind of accident instead of an unwinnable fight; nobody likes those in games.
The VR introduction changes depending on which game you chose, thus a sword and sorcery one ends with a sword through your face. Or maybe I’m just making all this up as I just thought it would be funny to link the two quests after I saw someone comment about it.
>Is the bartender going to be a real option for romance? She's not in the title image for the main thread OR the questdis.
She’s not a possible romance, but she is a possible… “extra scene”. Or was possible, as it didn’t seem that many readers showed any interest of her.

>All three ladies are kindof scary for Vic if you think about it. Zalia has teeth and a too-large jaw, Qarka has those ultraviolent urges, and Xi has toxic fluids and wants to put it in his butt.
That’s kind of the point of the quest. All three ladies are very alien, so alien in fact that they are even dangerous. Can you overcome the danger and still find love, though?
>The Khrax allowed on the station are aware of how fragile non-Khrax are, and that they can't treat them like they would other Khrax.
Remember, the Khrax are generally more afraid of you then you are of them. The mere possibility of actually permanently harming someone scares the shit out of them, as it’s kind of a new concept.

Whoever wins isn’t guaranteed to picked, but I will take it into consideration. Multiple picks are welcomed as well. (I’ll probably shift between 2 quests at once for a while if all goes well.)
http://www.strawpoll.me/20623296

For those that are unfamiliar with some of those quests, here’s all the wiki’s:
https://questden.org/wiki/A_Feast_of_Souls
https://questden.org/wiki/New_Horizons
https://questden.org/wiki/Boldly_Coming

As for Boldly Coming in particular, I’d like to continue and finish it, but I can’t find a way to change its current state into something I actually want to do, so sadly I’ve taken the decision to reboot it and try again, this time with some more experience behind me.

With Boldly Coming (probably) getting rebooted soon, I’d thought I’d dump a few things here before hand. First of we have the redesigned Madam Zalia, who will still be the blind, classy time abyss of a lady she was in the original, though this time she won’t be a tube with legs. I’m also considering changing her color, but that’s still up in the air (I’m leaning towards light blue currently). More to come later.

Her weird limbs with joins I didn't understood was disturbing while this drake design is something I can feel comfortable feeling attraction toward. In a normal date quest this would be a significant improvement but I suspect disturbing is the goal here.

Not that my opinion should matter much here. You certainly know what works better for your story.

>You sure? The old design felt more... alien.
The last design was just a tube with legs, which someone already pointed out that Qarka got that covered. She’s currently has the role of looking relative normal at first glance, but getting more alien as you spend time with her. Of course, I’m currently just playing with ideas, so that might change.
>The more alien the better.
Yes.
>Her weird limbs with joins I didn't understood was disturbing while this drake design is something I can feel comfortable feeling attraction toward. In a normal date quest this would be a significant improvement but I suspect disturbing is the goal here.
I’m trying to aim for the sweet spot right between disturbing and attractive, though it is a hard spot to hit. Currently her limbs is probably the first thing I’ll change, as I’ve tried to experimenting with bending them in weird and bizarre ways and it isn’t working as good as I’d hoped. We’ll see what I come up with.

>Ah, she has scales, which means it's less likely for her jaw to unzip halfway down her body. A good sign.
Do I have bad news for you, friend. She still got that winning smile she had last time.
>so you're saying that their species can change color at well?
As fun as that would be, I’ll probably save that ability for another species. But I might just let them come in multiple colors, like the Sakkilians in my other quests. Still haven’t decided.

Also, have some more experiments, including such gems as Madam Zalia rotating her head 360 degrees, her horrifying mouth and a male example of her species (Who might or might not become a husbando in the quest, still haven’t decided how I will do that)

Is one of those drawings supposed to be demonstrating her being able to turn her head 360 degrees? I think the twist lines went the wrong way if so.

I thought of this question after I could have asked it in-quest, so I'll ask it here: With how flexible raolme are, could they literally tie themselves into a knot, and if so could it be one that couldn't be undone without outside assistance? I'm asking because I got the idea of two or more young and inexperienced raolme having sex, testing their limits with positions and in the heat of passion inadvertently tying each other together in such a way they couldn't untie themselves. It's the sort of humorous anecdote that I figure Madam Zalia would share and probably would have been part of.

>Is one of those drawings supposed to be demonstrating her being able to turn her head 360 degrees? I think the twist lines went the wrong way if so.
That’s what happens when you just drawn something without thinking too much about it or using a reference piece. These are just some quick concepts I’ve drawn up to help me figure out how she works, but yes, she’s supposed to be able to rotate her head more than 360 degrees, and yes, it seems like I accidently drew the twist lines backwards (not to mention most of her neck simply disappearing).

>With how flexible raolme are, could they literally tie themselves into a knot, and if so could it be one that couldn't be undone without outside assistance? I'm asking because I got the idea of two or more young and inexperienced raolme having sex, testing their limits with positions and in the heat of passion inadvertently tying each other together in such a way they couldn't untie themselves.
While the old, really long ones would easily have done so, my new design might just be a bit too short to do it on their own in most cases. Two of them, on the other hand, should easily be able to be tied together. I might just need to make a test drawing of this…
>It's the sort of humorous anecdote that I figure Madam Zalia would share and probably would have been part of.
Well, you just have to ask her if she’s has experience in the matter, don’t you?

Speaking of Zal, have some experiments I did with her limbs.

Now, for the big change in the quest, the main character. While I would like to have something close to human, I’m completely abysmal at drawing them, not to mention that I don’t particularly like drawing them in the first place. So my current idea is to borrow either a Sakkilian or a Varkian from my other universe, as they are for all intent and purposes just a human with a funny head on them most of the time.

I’ve also been grumbling over the gender of the protagonist as well, as I have some scenarios I’d like to do about a female main character as well as a male one (in fact, originally I was planning on running a sequel to the original quest starring a female protagonist and a few lads to seduce). The question is, should I just let you choose from the beginning and write from there? Or should I have two different characters that you can control, depending on the thread? (Maybe a pair of siblings?)
Another idea is to have a new character for each lady (and possible gentleman), though that might just make them all too bland in the end.

One last idea I had about it was to make the main character a bit more alien as well. Someone that while looking a lot more humanoid than the other characters, might be able to change certain aspects of themselves, given time. Things like color, height, weight, gender etc. making them a bit more flexible when it comes to how they like to present themselves. But that’s just a silly idea I had.

Any thoughts and ideas about all that? Other ideas are welcome as well, as I’m still just messing around with it in my head.

>Things like color, height, weight, gender etc. making them a bit more flexible when it comes to how they like to present themselves. But that’s just a silly idea I had.

So like a frog or a fish that can switch genders if need be?

If you do decide to make the MC a not-Sakkilian or a not-Varkian, if you wanted to make them a little more alien you could maybe tweak the base designs a little. Like the Sakkilian stand in could maybe be a little more gorilla like as in their upper body is much more dense so they usually walk on their hands like a gorilla does when they move and while they can stand on their back legs it's more comfortable to walk on all fours. Maybe make them larger overall as well so you can have a few jokes where they have trouble in smaller spaces, maybe have it so they're a bit clumsy or something. And the not-varkian could maybe be a bit more harpy like as in replace their arms with wings and just give them very dexterous feet that can act as hands when they need to interact with something with their quirks being they have very powerful legs and things can be awkward for them to use if it wasn't made for harpy varkian in mind.

As for the gender thing, unless you decide to make the character able to change gender, both genders, or just simply make them bi make just pick whatever option has the most options and save the other for a possible sequel or you could just plan out all the possible romance options and then just have the players pick a gender and then just focus on all the romance options that would be comparable with that option and save the rest for later.

I don't know I'm just spitballing some ideas at you to see if any of them strike your fancy.

I noticed the last time there was a lot of conflict on which character to pursue. Might you consider multiple 'runs' of the quest as different protagonists, so that those whose waifus don't get picked can eventually still get theirs and characters we don't explore can get spotlight?

If the protagonist will be a furry that is basic human avoid any species that resemble the aliens. Similarities give the impression of compatibility, so a reptilian having a relation with a draconic creature feel much more natural than a human. I suggest a canine or a monkey.

I would prefer human for this because of the peculiarities of the original protagonist.
From what I recall he was an incel so desperate to have his existence validate by sex that he considered death preferable to remain virgin. His mentality was so pathetic that I would have trouble taking it seriously if I didn't know that people like him exist.
I fear that the further away from human the protagonist get the more difficult it will be for the readers to accept his preconceptions as something we have work around.

Multiple protagonists could be nice because it would allow us to establish multiple stable relationships.
We could start with one character, learn a little about the romantic options, pick one and have a long term relationship established before changing to a different protagonist to interact with the remaining romantic option.
Jealousy could be an element. The partner could feel offended if we pay too much attention to other romantic options once the relationship is established.

For the joints: how about they look normal but the knees and elbows can bend in any direction, and what appear to be normal forearm and shin can actually stretch twice their normal size.

A mostly-humanoid alien species from your other quests would work fine.

I don't think multiple protagonists is a good fit, but I could be wrong. A bisexual main character is always a solution, but so is just having a sequel. Keep in mind that the players are unlikely to want to cheat on anyone, so one character is unlikely to explore more than one character's relationship fully, so just having two separate adventures may allow exploring those relationships more fully.

That’s an amazing idea that I will probably use. Thanks.
>For the joints: how about they look normal but the knees and elbows can bend in any direction, and what appear to be normal forearm and shin can actually stretch twice their normal size.
They are already supposed to be able to bend whatever way they want to, but I can’t really get it too look right. I might just give up and start deforming their body a bit to make it work, like stretch shins and forearms, as you said. Their bones structure is supposed to be more of a suggestion than a fact anyway…

>If you do decide to make the MC a not-Sakkilian or a not-Varkian, if you wanted to make them a little more alien you could maybe tweak the base designs a little.
The whole point of the quest is non-alien dating something very alien, so that won’t work.
>Like the Sakkilian stand in could maybe be a little more gorilla like as in their upper body is much more dense so they usually walk on their hands like a gorilla does when they move and while they can stand on their back legs it's more comfortable to walk on all fours. Combine those two with a silicon based life form and you just described something that I might have been considering making into a datable character. We’ll see how it pans out.

>If the protagonist will be a furry that is basic human avoid any species that resemble the aliens. Similarities give the impression of compatibility, so a reptilian having a relation with a draconic creature feel much more natural than a human. I suggest a canine or a monkey.
Actually, I have never had any mammals in my quests before, so that would be a great idea to add. They are after all a lot closer to humans than anything else while being as far removed from the alien’s ladies as possible, as none of them are mammalian in nature.

I like the idea of some kind of anthro rodent or bat creature… or maybe just a canine? Hmm…

>I noticed the last time there was a lot of conflict on which character to pursue. Might you consider multiple 'runs' of the quest as different protagonists, so that those whose waifus don't get picked can eventually still get theirs and characters we don't explore can get spotlight?
>Multiple protagonists could be nice because it would allow us to establish multiple stable relationships.
Having taken some time to consider it, I’ve currently settled on a multiple run / multiple protagonists’ kind of idea. The base idea is to make a character, chose one a lady (or maybe guy), go on a date, then see how things pans out from there.

So:
Choose gender.
Choose basic personality and looks, for example “nerdy, timid and lean boy” or “Confident and forward punk lady” etc.
Be introduced to the aliens (I’m thinking some kind of dating app or site maybe? That might be fun)
Go on date.
See where things go from there.
Repeat with one waifu / husbando gone.

Thoughts?

I like it so far.

A dating app is the most logical way for the premise to work but I would prefer if we could meet them in a physical space. I don't have a good argument though, the app make sense.

The big ears rat look good.
Have you tried to draw lemurs? They should work well in your style.

For the forearm I was imagining a rail like structure made of three bones. Two bones would have a normal connection to the wrist while the third bone would connect to the elbow with a scapula like sock.

Ooh, neat, The Rodent/Bat designs are cool. Human protag again would also be neat but hey if there's multiple we can go through many protagonists of many types.

I like the idea of it being like a dating app or something, makes the multiple run situation work rather well and allow for disparate camps on who is best boy/girl get their own time with a given person

Heck, going that route could even be something of a government initiative, promote some interstellar unity.

While a part of me preferred a human protagonist I'm okay with animal people as a sort of human stand in, like they aren't technically from Earth but everything (culture, history, species) is basically the same.

I am glad KaKtus is showing the character acting more in line with the idea that they came to an alien world to escape a shitty life where they didn't fit in.

What is it exactly that you want us to do in regards to Zalia?
We can't remove ourselves from her, she's made it very clear that she will be around so long as we continue to date Ztolt. To fully disengage would be be to end the quest.

Since we know she's gonna be around, might as well make life easier for everyone and at least try to be friendly.

Yes she bullied us with a power-play.
Yes that feels shitty.

But from her perspective we're just some alien hussy out to take advantage of innocent little Ztolt. She was in full mama bird mode and realizable threats tend to be effective.

It's perfectly valid of you to not like how she treated us, but some initial hostility does not a villain make. There is nothing here that suggest Zallia might be the Devil.

>What is it exactly that you want us to do in regards to Zalia?
Well, asking that question in the first place is a good start. It would seriously improve our situation if people would consider options besides "give in to her demands", instead of just posting things like this:

>>/quest/978794
>I for one would look forward to being openly threatened in future meetings.

Very few were even acknowledging that there was a problem; when they addressed her actions at all, they were either denying that she actually said or meant the threats she said, or acting like they were Tristan's fault somehow, like saying he "asked for it" even when he clearly didn't. Of the few that did acknowledge it, most of them just went "welp, looks like we have no choice" and decided to go along with it anyway without looking for any alternatives.

Now, to handle the Zalia problem, we need to not give in to her demands all the time. We have to show a willingness to tell her "no". She likes to act like we have no choice but to do whatever she wants because of her political power and contrived situations, but also like she's just having innocent harmless fun because her threats are vague enough to allow for some kind of deniability so she can act like they're unrelated even if they're in the same monologue. She can only keep telling herself that if we keep doing whatever she wants. Refuse, and she'll have to show how she deals with rejection.

If she doesn't do anything evil, and admits that her coercion was just empty threats or a "misunderstanding", then we'll know it's safe to say "no" and we won't be forced to deal with her anymore. Problem solved.

If she does decide to do abuse her power like she said she "could", then she won't be able to act vaguely innocent anymore. We'll know that she's really just a predatory bully, and she'll know it too, along with anyone else who learns about whatever she tries. Then at least we'll know to treat her like an enemy.

But what would she have to gain by manipulating us? We have nothing she doesn't already have more reliable access to. It's not like she's gonna have us deliver unscrupulous packages. Nor is it likely that she'll coerce sexual favors out of us, as that would hurt Ztolt and is antithetical to her character.

However, I will grant that we'll need to be more assertive on the future, if we keep seeing Ztolt.
I'll also grant that Zalia is a terrifying, inhuman, semi-immortal space Kennedy who's peerlessness has surely been gnawing away at her sense of identity and moral fiber for generations the states of which are unknowable for the countless practiced faces learned over the years enclose here decaying heart in a shell born of necessity, the likes of which likely hasn't seen the light of day in over a century.

First, Zalia is a returning character from the original boldly coming. Many of us already know she's pretty cool and are already disarmed around her. Take that as you may.

Second, Boldly Coming isn't Coxxwette, Enemy quest, or a Smik Dating quest.
