Since I'm running two Quests I thought, hey, time to make a new QUESTDIS.
For those of you not in the know, I’m EDMANGO, and I’m running CATALYST and SHARDS.

You can read up on my Quests Here
https://questden.org/wiki/EDMANGO

Feel free to theorize and talk about em. I’ll also answer any questions I see here that aren’t too spoilery like on the last thread.

Thanks for making a thread for your quests combined.

I had an interesting idea: what if Pon and Glide became rivals? could help with Pon's growth as a hunter if Pon had someone to compete with and could lead to some interesting interactions regarding them.

I think you've got it backwards.
I think Awakened powers are granted via runescripting inscribed upon the soul.
>>
No. 135752 ID: dfbac0

This is as good a place as any for talking about how rune-scripting works.
One question: Does specifying an absorb run use up one or two runes? Like, is doing ABSORB-BLUE two runes, or is it one? Knowing this also lets us know our limitations, as if we can do the specified absorb rune for one, we can do much more complex things.
Question Two: Do you have an energy system set up where certain runes and situations produce and consume certain amounts or is it just "tinker till it works"?
>>
No. 135753 ID: afe7de

>>135752
Writing a rune in a different color only takes up one rune, it’s like writing the word mother in English vs Spanish. It’s MOTHER one way or MADRE the other way. Still one word.

And as for energy consumption you gotta experiment till it works. Better materials provide more energy over longer periods of time. Also there’s the TRIGGER and INTENSITY runes that you can use to control how much energy is used and when.
>>
No. 135754 ID: afe7de

You gotta learn those first ofc, and they take up a rune slot. Rune scripting is hard cause of the limitations.
>>
No. 135756 ID: 96c896

Does writing a rune in a different color matter?
>>
No. 135760 ID: afe7de

>>135756
Yeah the rune you are writing gets different properties. It’s most easily apparent with the ABSORB rune, it absorbs different stuff, how it works on other runes you’ll have to find out!

Okay, so, the minimum number of courses we can take during the Academy is 1 per year. 4 per year is seen as "hard core" since we took Hunter(2) plus Magitech(1) and then Meditation(1), so... 2 would be normal?! The minimum course load for a full time college student in the US is 4 classes PER SEMESTER! Like, that's how many classes you need to take per semester to graduate in four years, so 4 per semester is normal. 1 per semester being normal means we're expected to take 1/4th the course load. That could make sense, if courses in the Academy take up 12 hours a week, instead of the 3 hours a week that US college courses do(or did in my college anyway).
Just how many classes did Chi have during her pre-Academy school years? We had 2 time points per year then, which is similar to the free time we get during the semester break, so it's like 4 time slots were consumed by school and I guess chores.

I feel like there's the expectation for us to split our time between gaining stats/skills and socializing, but basically any special goal eats up most of our time so we only have room for one other thing, and we've been given a special goal like every year.
Like, how are we supposed to split our time? Let's math it out. 2 time points spent on classes a year is "normal", so that leaves 4 for other things. 1 time point spent socializing, maybe? 1 time for projects, and... since we're reaching soft caps now we need to break those, so 2 time points for each one, considering if trying to learn Eidetic Memory is any indication we'll need at least 2 every time. Trying to get an expanded mind palace is taking us 3 total, ugh.
Anyway, that feels like garbage. Only 2 out of 6 time points every year spent on gaining stats or skills. I'd only feel like we were spending an acceptable amount of time on college if we were taking 4 time points worth, because that's 3 or 4 subjects a year.

On a different note, I think we're wasting our time pursuing teaching skill. It's not going to fit an adventurous lifestyle at all, and I'm not sure there's any benefit to using the skill on our allies. It takes 1 time point to do that, which means our allies have to spend 1 time unit to be taught by us! They could just use that time learning from other teachers, who will be presumably better at it than us unless we take up a career in teaching, which we absolutely will not.
>>
No. 135783 ID: 96c896

Thinking about it more, I feel like requiring practice or meditation to break through a soft cap and gain a specialist skill is a slap in the face in return for wanting to focus in a stat. We should just be able to pick the specialization like a Focus and continue gaining points in the stat. As it is now, we spent two entire time points (I forgot that we spent Meditation class meditating on it!) trying to break the soft cap on Logic and got NOTHING from it except an opportunity to spend extra time points on it to make it bigger.

Oh and if we expand the mind palace, we'll wind up having spent 4 points, not 3. If this trend holds with other soft caps, we're just... not going to break them, probably. There will always be something else to do. Why bother spending 3 or 4 time points breaking a soft cap and gaining some specialist skill when we can spend that time gaining other, just as useful skills and stat points that aren't capped yet?
>>
No. 135784 ID: afe7de

Classes and time points are abstract and gamey. It’s designed so you can’t do everything you want to do. Want to become crazy good in a subject past normal standards, you’ll have to sacrifice something for it. Want to gain photographic/eidedic memory or better, you’ll have to spend time to do it. Forming bonds is the same thing. No person has everything or is good at everything, there will be stuff you lack and things come at a cost.

Also. You are 11 right now. You’re basically an adult with your stats rn, there’s no need to be in a rush you can faff about and afford to spend time points on other stuff. Being an 11 year old that can teach and isn’t patient makes sense but also is fucking wild because you are an 11 year old that can teach like a teacher can.

Also, like. You dont have to accept every request someone gives you or do every goal right away. The challenges aren’t required to be completed the year they are given. The Two ones you have just need you to still be a student. But if you graduate and apply to be a teacher you can still do it.

All I’m saying is if you want to go down the teaching and benefiting your worldplate path you totally can, if you wanna adventure you also can do that. This isn’t gonna turn into a Civ game where you control every aspect of your plate or the world, but it’s possible you might focus on a single track, like becoming a royal scientist or the leader of the hunters or something like that.

You can even do a mix of both, adventure one year, teach another, etc.

You have competent people around you to pick up slack and do the things you aren’t doing. I believe in you all and hope you get the good ending.
>>
No. 135785 ID: 96c896

I mean sure we're 11 but we'll only be in the Academy for four years. After that it's much harder to gain skills right?

How exactly is our level of Teaching skill as good as an adult's, when it's only three stars? All our other stats seem to be age-appropriate despite being higher.
>>
No. 135787 ID: afe7de

You don't know the level of difficulty it will be to gain new skills post academy. Though there's been talks of a university in the CANUS world-plate, you could always spend your own time researching, practicing, or doing lots of stuff. Though at that point you'll need to afford a place to live and have a job or avenue for cash and have less time.

You won't be without options and im extremely confident that you all will get creative even after your stat growth starts to stagnate is what I'm saying.

And the teaching SKILL is on a different scale then the other stats, Stats have a hard cap at 9, Combat skills have a similar cap at 9, regular skills have a cap at 5 for the most part, its possible to go higher then the hard caps, but it's incredibly hard and requires shenanegans. Usually going past a hard cap means you’re doing something really wild with it.

Runescripting's the weird special skill that has a soft cap at 5 and a hard cap at like 7 or 9, but your other skills basically are on a 1-5 scale. I call those UNIQUE SKILLS because they kinda break physics. Meditation’s in the same boat too bc of your karma traits you picked up.

And as for teaching. You did a lot of practiced teaching on other kin, and then with your associated memories it got boosted to 2* from the get go, the teaching class got you to 3*, and 3* is around what a general educator is able to teach at. 4 would be an academy professor and 5 would be like someone completely amazing at teaching that could teach at 2x the rate or something wild.

For reference, even tho saba was a science professor in his prior life, his teaching stat was only a 2.5 at most. He was gifted in the knowledge and logic, but only a little less than okay at teaching.
>>
No. 135789 ID: 96c896

Oh wow so we've got big ups on teaching skills huh. We haven't even read the book yet!

Alright I will calm my tits and just try to take advantage of the academy as an experience instead of a precious missable opportunity. I'm surprised Meditation has that much potential, too... not sure how we can gain skill in it. Meditate on meditating? Study meditation? Take the Meditation class again?
>>

Can we learn multiple specialist skills? Like, can we get Eidetic Memory *and* Visual Calculus?
>>
No. 135791 ID: afe7de

>>135790
As of right now you can, BUT I feel like I'll need to put a limit on the amount of specialist skills you can get. Maybe 2 for now, and 4 when you reach the end of LOGIC? Not sure. I'ts something I need to consider.

ofc I mean specialist skills in a specific stat, not limiting the total ones you can get, while that could be interesting and lead to some interesting choices, IDK if I like the idea.

Well, I said I was going to suggest some Awakened Abilities, So I guess I should put my money where my mouth is. Honestly, not sure how well these will fit compared to whats been shown so far, but maybe they'll inspire something.

(Influencer): The user is more naturally charismatic. The user's voice can easily influence the emotions of those that hear it, causing them to feel anger, sadness, excitement, Calm, etc. The more extreme the change in emotion the more obvious the use becomes. This power only displays its maximum effect when used in person, when used either via recording or a communication device, the effect is very diminished.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Broadening the complexity of the emotion induced.
-Removing the recording downside
-Making usage more subtle and unnoticeable

(Great Communicator): User's Intelligence increases. The user is able to understand all languages they encounter, written or otherwise. Can understand runes and magical symbols as well as non-verbal communication.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Also allows user to instantly speak/write in a language as long as they've encountered it once, regardless of prior knowledge.
-Allows the user to be understood by other non-verbally, through gestures, etc, regardless of familiarity.

(Doppelganger): The User can take on the physical appearance and attributes and mimic another living being they have encountered. While using this power, they will have the same voice, attributes/stats, clothes, etc of whomever they're copying. Can store X number of different copies. X rises based on level.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-If user kills/defeats the original while copying them, allows them to steal a portion of their stats or abilities permanently.
-Allows user to more naturally copy behaviors and mannerisms even while not copying a targets appearance.
-Other stuff to let the user more accurately impersonate their target.

(Banish):The user s able to release harmless waves of energy. Any target touched by the waves is forced a set distance away from the user, relative to the amount of energy used. If they target lacks an unobstructed path away from the user, they will be forced around or through any of said obstructions. The direction and angle of the targets' movement is random as long as they at no point move closer to the user.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Allow user to change the maximum/minimum distance of banishment
-Cause the wave to teleport targets away instead of moving them through obstacles.
-Adds momentum to the banishment waves.
-Allows user to reverse the effect and move themselves away from targets instead of vice versa.
-Allows user to set a target destination

(Supercharger): The user is granted a relatively large energy pool. The user can use energy to amplify and increase one of their own physical Stats, or those of a nearby target. The degree of amplification raises with higher energy investment.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Allow amplification of non-physical stats
-Increase the number of targets whose stats user can amplify at once
-Increase the number of stats user can amplify at once
-Increase energy efficiency

(Cultivator): User can enhance and direct the growth of nearby living beings, both physical and metaphysical. Physically, for example, they could cause a seed to sprout and grow into a full grown plant without the presence of water or soil, or alter a puppy to cause it to grow up strong by increasing its health, muscle growth, etc, while minimizing any defects in its breed. Basically it allows the user to help a target grow better faster. If the target has an ability, the user can increase its growth rate.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Allow the user to induce beneficial physical or Power mutations

Thats that for now, but I have more, including some I think im going to hold back until Cat starts awakening more people because I think theyd be good for characters already in the story or something. These ones I think are just the ones I think I could type out the quickest.

Soul L.Y.N.K.
Description: Devour the karma of others, stealing it as your own. But it comes at the price of enslavement.
Usage: The user must stalk a target for a period of time dependent on the karma of the target. When the target falls unconscious, the user can begin siphoning through a series of 'violent' meditative stances that cause their soul to temporarily shape in what is described as a 'non-Euclidian spear', which can then be fired at the target. This causes a spirit chain to form between the user and the target, and a random amount of karma will be siphoned from the target.
Weakness: Spiritually enslaves the user to the victim. This link influences the user to be dedicated to serving the interests of the target, until such a time as the user has assisted the target in earning sufficient karma to offset the theft. Karma can not be returned until the user or the target are dead. The link does not break upon death. If the target dies first, the target will haunt the user parasitically to their personal custom; the simplest way to break the link is to willfully surrender any karma owed. If the user dies first, the target will gain supernatural powers that are directly linked to the user's spirit, which is extremely painful for the user. If both user and target are dead while the link is still existent, the target will gain control over the user's reincarnation menus as a party; both will reincarnate in the same world, typically as siblings. This weakness is not listed until the user successfully absorbs karma for the first time. It should also be noted that the user feels no compulsion to tell the target anything about this ability, and they will only be notified when one of them dies.
This ability is typically used and preserved by karma cultivators known as 'Thralls', servants who siphon karma from kings and tyrants, slowly biding their time and power as they capitalize on their servile personalities by 'earning' power the slow way. Thralls are looked down upon as karma vampires and insufferable bodyguards to the corrupt and powerful, but some thralls willfully harness this ability to form mutually beneficial relationships with willing partners.

Reality Bleeding
Description: Uses tears in the fabric of reality to swap aspects of one person with a near-similar entity from another reality.
Usage: Target 1 is the target from the user's world. When the ability is used, the User's perception of time slows down and their mind is overloaded with sensory data about potential targets from other dimensions. The user may pick a single target and swap out any physical, mental, or spiritual aspects between the two targets.
Weakness: Using this ability for prolonged periods of time may cause brain damage. The energy signatures of the two targets' souls must be similar to one another.

I See Everything
Description: The user sees everything. Literally.
Usage: An eye near the user's head opens, causing them to perceive every possible thing in existence at once, but from a warped, simplified perspective that their mind can barely endure. Increases Perception Stat by 20 and Crit Chance by 250% (Every attack is a critical hit, the critical damage modifier is squared, and there is a 50%+ chance of multiplying the existing damage multiplier by itself). The user may come up with insane methods which cause otherwise-unforeseeable cause-and-effect consequences to occur.
Weakness: This effect stresses the user, and may cause permanent stress damage. The user can only perceive to the limits of their mind, and all other 'things' in existence are either simplified or blocked from long-term memory.

Killer's Harvest
Description: Instantly liquify and devour the corpse of anyone you kill. At higher levels, this can go even further.
Usage: When the user kills a target, their body immediately explodes into a series of "light particles composed of blood". These particles are instantly absorbed by the closest being with this power. Users will gain permanent experience points that can be spent towards increasing their stats. At higher levels, this ability can devour more than bodies.
Weakness: There is a small chance of developing mutations based on the target's aspects.

Blam Junction
Description: If this world is a simulation, then this breaks the physics engine.
Usage: The user will instantly and passively recognize alternate means of locomotion, in ways which defy all conventional physics. Examples include Moonrunning, long jumping backwards, making love to walls, butt-slamming, and flickering in two stances.
Weakness: User is at risk of lethal physical maneuvers that would be impossible under regular physics, such as getting stuck in walls, falling transparently through the center of the world, sudden changes to physical anatomy, or simply dying of a heart attack.

Is there some way we can make sure we're actually hanging out with all our friends at some point? Right now it seems like if we don't focus on a single Bond, it gets ignored, since Noodle said she thought we forgot about her. Dinners are a thing, sure, but that's one event seemingly taking place on one day, so I'm not sure why that counts for much of anything considering we're apparently not doing anything with them for the rest of the year or semester or whatever.

So you just switched to comfortable which is the spend more time with friends level of lifestyle expenses, but she was more speaking of you not spending a time point on her, some friends want one on one time. Even a dinner works.

You live with her and obvs hang out occasionally, but usually as a group. It’s like having a best bud in a group of friends but not like focusing on them super hard, sometimes they feel neglected and want specific attention. Bonds are important and your lifestyle level means your relationships won’t drop in level. But if you were at the lowest level and didn’t bond with anyone or rest, then there’s risk of bond levels dropping like in reality when you don’t see people forever.

Got some more Awakened abilities. If anything sticks out to anyone about any of these, id appreciate the feedback so I know if im in the right ballpark with any of them.

(Living Weapon):The user can transform themselves into a weapon to be wielded by another, retaining full consciousness. Various weapon forms are possible, with the variety as well as the quality expanding with the ability level. While the user is a weapon, they add a portion of their stats to their wielder, also increasing with the ability level.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Add more types of weapons to transformation, like guns and energy weapons.
-Allows the user a certain degree of control even while in weapon form and being wielded.
-Allow user to partially transform into a weapon, like turning parts of their body into blades, or gun barrels, bludgeons, etc.
-Allows adding special effects to weapon forms, like elemental powers, etc.

(Toxin Absorption): User is immune to poisons and toxic substances. User can absorb/consume them safely, and either process them, or internally concentrate them to use offensively later.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Upgrades to extend effects to acids and pollutants, allergens.
-Allow user to create anti-toxins from absorbed poisons
-Alter the method toxin are expelled, allowing user to secrete it through sweat, saliva, inject it via stinger or fangs, etc.

(Chains):User can conjure chains that extend from their body, and can be used for climbing or entanglement/restraint. Length and strength of chains determined by energy consumption.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Upgrades to changes the chain material to things like Energy, or elements like fire or water.
-Allows chains to inflict debuffs on entangled enemies, like lowering speed, intelligence, strength, etc.
- Adds A sealing effect to chains, restraining powers and supernatural effects of bound targets.
-grants user ability to more easily manipulate the chains after they're created, and form complex constructs from them

(Iron Body): Makes the User's body like iron, massively increasing toughness, slightly increase strength.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Upgrades to extend the toughness buff to mental and emotional fortitude as well too.
-Further enhance strength increase
-Tiered upgrade to cycle through stronger or more specialized metals and materials.

(Mixer): User can fuse two objects into one that performs the functions of both, or has the properties of both materials if the materials were without explicit function. The product of the fusion is generally random but retains the basic shape and function of the objects used.
Possible Achievement powerups to the power:
-Allows additional objects to be fused beyond the first two.
-Adds additional power to fused objects if mixing two identical or similar objects.
- Adds some kind of stacking effect when fusing an already mixed objects to another already mixed object.

It occurs to me I dont actually know what the functional difference is between Inherent Abilities and Awakened ones, except that Inherent abilities arent connected to the System, I think?

Cat said he plans on giving Nipha a power when she arrives on Monday, and considering Willamina said she isn't bringing Gruk and his healing powers, I am thinking we should give Nipha a healing power so that Gruk can help heal the town while Cat is gone and Cat can have a healer.

So Nipha's power can be:

PURRFECT HEALER: whenever she purrs and rubs against a person's injury from the vibrations of the purring, she can heal them. Can even calm someone's anxiety, (Based off of how a real cat's purrs can slowly heal someone).

Nothing too crazy. Maybe higher levels can make healing people more effective or anyone up to 20 feet of her can be healed by hearing her purrs.

Had some Library book ideas, thought I may as well drop them for when they become available.

Dynastic Diary:
A well maintained tome, containing a record from the perspective of Tengu's Queen, as well as her King and Primary Consort(Who was a general of her armies) during the time of the Human invasion. It details their trials in overcoming the foreign threat and the strategies they employed, as well as court drama and intrigue that occurred during and after the conflict. The entire book is compiled from diary pages from the actual involved parties, as well as letters and correspondence between the three as well as records and eyewitness accounts by the queen's Scribe who put the whole thing together. It contains detailed accounts of several noteworthy battles, both on and off plate, numerous assassination attempts, negotiations and bribes, and one particularly interesting incident involving a staged rift between the Queen, King, and Consort in order to expose traitors within the court. Some of the language in the letters gets quite bawdy, but anything particularly risqué appears to be edited out, sometimes quite obviously.
Gives +Knowledge, Leadership, Strategy, and Guile, and contains some information about the other world plates during that time period.

The Winged Monk's Journey:
A worn, hand written journal, penned by a nameless Wingkin martial artist, detailing his travels from Tengu to other world plates to hone his skills as well as learn from the arts of others. The time period this takes place in is unclear, and the writer seems to deliberately avoid naming themselves, which makes you believe their journey may not have been exactly legal. The writer, feeling they had learned all that was possible from the dojos of their own world plate, hitches a ride with a merchant as a guard, and begins their journey, battling monsters, bandits and meeting other warriors along the way. The details that dont have to do with fighting, food, or the acquisition thereof are thin, but the descriptions of the people he meets, the fights he had, as well as the warriors and their weapons are all incredibly detailed, and include hand drawn but descriptive pictures. The level of detail could lead one to believe the writer had some kind of ENHANCED MEMORY, and just didn't care enough about things not related to fighting to bother. The Writer describes the fighting styles and moves of the warriors he encountered and how he attempted to incorporate them into his own fighting style. It also describes A method of meditation he developed that involves building a mental dojo where he could fight a mental duplicate of a foe over and over again, until he could win with certainty no matter what they tried, and boasts that once he mastered it, he never lost a fair fight against the same opponent twice, though who knows whether that was true. Near the end of the journal, it becomes more of a manual, describing a unique style the writer attempted to develop based on what they had learned. Specifically for wingkin, it revolved around recognizing the opponents style, and then using your own wings and natural movement abilities to essentially rob the opponent of their ability to land an effective blow while maximizing your own, via manipulating the distance between fighters, identifying and attacking the opponents center of balance and primary attack method, while maintaining your own. Parts of it are similar to and obviously draw from the Mind and Body style, and you can assume other Dojo styles as well. Unfortunately, the writer never finished it, as they apparently passed away before the end, mentioning a progressing illness before the journal abruptly ends.
Gives +Self Defense, Dodge, describes a new Meditation method and can start learning a new Martial Arts style, that requires further development.

The Gambler's Guide:
A professional handbook, written by the self- proclaimed most successful and wealthy Gambler in Tengu. The preface states that he doesnt feel threatened giving away his tips because if that were all it took to win he'd already have a lot more competition. It goes on to describe many of the games played by the author as well of their primary winning strategies, but also personal anecdotes. The writer stresses that while skill and luck are both useful, the primary way to win is by knowing how to work yourself into situations where your luck can work best for you, and how to do so. It also explains the importance of staying calm, and sometimes just having to trick the other guy into playing himself.

So book ideas are a thing, hm? Well, what if Riichi's story of the twin seductresses - if such a story truly exists - can be found in a collection of other such fairy tales? Here's another such story.
Squawk and the Greenjack: A poor wing-kin named Squawk loses his last gold coin off the side of the plate, but as he flies down to catch it he notices a great big vine attached to the bottom of the worldplate. He follows it down to a strange land where he meets a giant, bigger and greedier than any human. Like the tale goes, he steals something, but when he escapes he flies upward, and taunts the giant into chopping the vine himself. The vine is cut, and the whole worldplate shoots upward, no longer tethered to the giant's realm, and it floats off into the clouds, coincidentally alleviating an ongoing drought.
Aside from that, some speculative fiction might be nice. Would they have science fiction stories written about the ancients?

book ideas:
The Complete Where's Walwren Collection (perception)
It's Where's Waldo. Excellent perception practice.

Internal Mana: Collected Theories and Experiments (???)
A folder marked as Classified, accidentally left behind by a royal scientist. Contains research documents related to mana veins, and experiments done on kin where researchers attempted to manipulate the mana via magitech devices, or by subjects attempting to move it by force of will, or monitoring the mana during physical activity or emotional/mental stress.

(unknown language title) (body cultivation techniques, if somehow translated from Chinese, or whatever the equivalent language would be)
A book written in a language that doesn't match any known civilization. Has an image of a human on the cover with what looks like a network of energy running throughout his body. Has some notes attached from attempts at translating the text.

Library book idea:

Plantimals comic book series
This young author of this Plantimals comic book was said to have had dreams about making a comic about plant monsters every day, and decided to use the dreams he saw as an inspiration to recreate the comic series from his dreams to the best of his knowledge and abilities. (It is actually made by the reincarnate of the Plantimals mango author from FAUNUS 08-C, the only difference being that the weapons are not as high tech, and represent more like weapons wingkin use currently like arrows or spears.) Mysteriously though, before the second to last issue, the plantimals comic series never ended because the author went missing several years ago.

While it is meant to be a fun comic for lowering stress, it actually gives information on how to kill certain monsters on FAUNUS 18-Q with methods on how the heroes kill them if the reader is observant enough, since the plant monsters in plantimals are really just monsters you see on FAUNUS 18-Q, but just with a plant theme to them.

Fuck. I just had a brain blast about the Human plate's motivations. And honestly... I really hope I'm wrong.

We were wondering why the plates were starting to disappear. But the actual question we should have asked since the beginning is...
Why are there plates? None of the other worlds the reincarnates collectively remember worked like that.
Why is there seemingly exactly one copy of the gate tech on each one, plus one wild tech?
Why do the humans' tactics seem to go beyond mere GREED, almost like they couldn't afford to let anyone catch up?
What if knowledge of tech isn't the only thing they're depriving the other plates of?
I suspect there's another truth they've been systematically erasing, along with the tech.
And it's likely something along the lines of...
"There's fucking win and lose conditions to this world the world-plates must compete to achieve and avoid, respectively."

And it makes total sense now why they're so vehement about keeping the other plates in the dark; the best way to win is to convince everyone else it's not a competition.

IIRC, the HIVEN plate did manage to claim one of their own ruins... so, assuming they did, in fact, learn the truth about why we were all put here... Man, it's no wonder they're associated with WRATH: They see what the humans are trying to do to make their victory uncontested, and they're PISSED - especially since they did succeed in stealing HIVEN's gate tech.

The thing I cant figure out with all these theories about the Humans is, If theyre so adamant about not letting others progress in Runescripting, why would they allow any teachers to be sent at all? Why trade any Arcanum at all, no matter what the price? If they just hoarded it they could deny their supposed enemy any research material. If its really all just down to greed, and the consequences are as dire as we think, thats some seriously overpowering, Capital 'G' greed there.

On a separate note, so I dont forget, I think we should give Pawn the design for the improved Scripting Pen. He's the only one who currently knows microscripting, so he can properly test it, and might be able to further improve it.

Hey Edmango, sorry to hear that it feels like Catalyst isnt going like you intended. I have some ideas, but its only what I can give based on my perspective as a reader from what ive seen efore and what i'd like to see in the future, I hope it helps.

Okay, so, If I had to choose where to go from here, I'd spend the rest f the current thread and maybe some of the next tying up loose ends, cementing the central characters and their skills, personalities and such, And have it get up to the point where Cat and the group set up their company/guild and have a base or whatever.
Once thats done, you can switch into doing like, episodic parts focusing on major events and incidents with the main cast as focal points, skipping forward into the future as it gets closer to the apocalypse. That would let you leave a lot number work and busywork in the background and just focus on the scenes you want to write/see, characters you want to have interact, etc.
For example, you could sip forward to stuff like, them eventually opening an office in the City, recruiting people there and how that turns out, the first assassination attempt and how that goes, major dungeon and artifact encounters, Confrontation with the League, Maybe meeting demons or angels, that kind of major stuff and its consequences, until getting up to the point of the apocalypse.
That way, I think you'd be able to still finish the quest of as a 5-6 ish thread thing while still getting to play around, by keeping the more simulation like aspects and upkeep in the background. Kind of thinking of it as a somewhat less linear and structured version of the Academy portion of Shards.
I hope this helps at all somehow.
>>

Yeah in it's current iteration I can see Catalyst running for 7 more threads.

There are not too many loose threads in Lyst to bog us down. - Good
We are assembling a crew, which will narrow the narrative focus AND reduce our waffling. -Good
Polyamorous relationships have proven to reduce Coxxwetting - good

Cat is way too powerful. - Bad
The apocalypse was introduced too early. - Very, very Bad

Cat's power isn't scalable with the long timeframe you intended for this quest.
This is exacerbated by the high stakes. Cat MUST use his power. Every day he sleeps with energy remaining is a day wasted.

Once the crew is assembled Cat can worry less about abduction. The anonymous thing shouldn't matter much in the long run.

However...
Over the minimum period of three months, if Cat is being responsible he should have DOZENS of Awakened minor characters and animal familiars. If we take the Awaken items mutation replace some of those with minor artifacts.

At best it's gonna make back end administration a nightmare.
At worst it's going to put us in a "prepping" loop and you'll burn out long before we get to play with the toys.

That said you are on the cusp of having everything you need for a straightforward super-powered dungeon romp, and perhaps a straight forward super hero team adventure after that.

Unless you want to depower Cat (or alter the setting such that his power isn't super useful) I propose that an Asteroid Quest style permanent perspective change. We could play as a character or characters we power up. (You could even kill off or damsel-ify Cat of you wanted to be extra spicy.)

That would preserve the setting and characters, give us suggestors the feeling that our actions paid off, narrow the narrative enough for you to control how long this takes, and maybe change things up enough to stave off burn-out for a bit.

I'd argue cats power isn't op given the stakes we're up against. rather, it's as much a danger to us as it is a help thanks to agencies like the guild. like I said on the thread, this seems to be shaping into an intrigue plot thriller.

>>136073 (me)
>>136074
Oh the story's deffo shaping up well, and Cat isn't terribly op for US. Not yet at least.
But think of the logistics.
If Cat awakens 1 person/animal/roach a day that's 30 new superpowers he has access to per month. That could easily balloon to hundreds by the time the apocalypse happens. And that says nothing of the item awakening mutation. Catalyst has worked so far because we've been at our absolute weakest and most vulnerable.
Things are going to speed up soon.
>>
No. 136077 ID: afe7de

Speeding up CATALYST is definitely unavoidable id say. I already planned for the dungeon to take place over a few months with each update being a chunk of a day until you beat the final boss, then it would skip around to important events, and prep work for the final boss fight.

I do like the idea of doing a POV change though. Rn I’m thinking finishing this thread and reaching a sort of conclusion on most of the major plot threads you have, or at least enough of a conclusion you feel like you were making some progress.

Then I’ll probably drop CATALYST for a while. POLTERGEIST has that PABE quest he wants to run, so that’ll be Catalyst tangential for a while, and then after I do another quest or two (I wanna do something short text form Tippler style) I can review and see where I can take Catalyst.

>>

>>136084
Oh snap!

I believe the phrase refers to the fact that karma is gained by having an impactful life, so it's not necessarily directly related to reincarnates so much as someone who knows about karma. Which, admittedly, is probably someone that has something to do with reincarnation.
>>
No. 136091 ID: 96c896

I don't think so. EDMANGO said that Cat's dimension is a shitty one where nobody reincarnates into normally.
>>
No. 136095 ID: afe7de

>>136091
Yeah most people don't reincarnate into that one, maybe there's a small number cause randomness, but its unlikely.

People could potentially study Karma, and know about that in a macro sense, but actually manipulating it is hard.

If we had to calculate the odds, finding a karma cultivator in this world is like 1/10^1000000000 power or something like that. It's hard to find. And the chance of them being on faunus are even higher.

Also there could be religions that believe in that kind of thing or have that as their tagline. Not Ratiolatry, but maybe the one specific goddess worshiping one. There's many options for what it means and it doesn't directly have to be because of a reincarnate.
>>
No. 136097 ID: afa6f6

>>136084
Maybe theres more to the whole Goddess thing then we know. After all, people refer to it even in other worlds if Shards is anything to go on. Maybe she just usually doesn't get involved and Cat is an exception.

Anyway, I told myself I wasnt going to do anymore Artifact suggestions until there was a new Catalyst thread and here we are sooo...

High Tier Artifacts:

Liquid Death: The essence of demise and entropy, condensed into a fluid and filtered into an ornate and stoppered black bottle. If you do not wish for something to die, its best not to open it at all. A single drop on any organic matter is all it takes for the affected instantly fall dead, and no amount of resistance or immunity to toxic substances will mitigate it. A drop on any already dead matter or inorganic matter causes it to quickly rot and deteriorate until the point of nonexistence. Allowing any of it to touch bare land will render a sizeable area around the contact point cursed and unable to sustain life for many years.

Your Best Friend: A Homely stuffed doll. When ownership is taken or given, manifests a seemingly imaginary friend, based on traits the owner desires and/or admires, which exists to comfort and protect the owner. Though only visible to the owner, the being is quite real and can interact with the world, though its bound to a certain distance to the artifact. The being manifests powers and abilities based on the owners imagination, and the limit of that power seems to only be the limits of that imagination, so it becomes vastly more powerful in the hands of someone not overly held down by belief in whats possible, like a children. Even beyond the physical protection, it remains a great tool for easing stress, trauma and other mental issues that might plague the owner. The imaginary friend being is linked to the users mind.

Tabula Rasa Device: A high tech, vaguely oval shaped handheld device seemingly similar to a grenade. when held it can be store energy by draining it from the holder.
When powered and thrown, the device releases a weak shockwave and flash of light, the radius of which increases based on the amount of energy stored.
For the entirety of the area touched by the wave released by the device, all knowledge and information is wiped from existence. Minds are rendered devoid of thought or memory, writings, letters and numbers are erased, pictures and paintings are reduced to blank spaces, sculptures and carvings are smoothed to blank nebulous shapes, And computerized devices are rendered empty and unable to function. Other than the device's information wiping effect, which appears irreversible, it appears incapable of causing any kind of physical harm.

Bottle of Ambrosia: An exquisitely crafted bottle of wine. the label bears no name, but has anrand bearing the image of a Satyr surrounded by ivy and grape vines. The Bottle automatically refills itself. Any drinker will agree upon drinking that it is the most delicious and exquisite wine, Ever. Drinking the wine provides numerous effects that differ based on the number of cups consumed in a night.
Drinking one cup alleviates minor physical maladies like minor illnesses and wounds, soothes pain better then drugs, and has a general mood elevating effect.
The second cup can alleviate emotional or spiritual suffering, as well as purge outside magical or psychic influence from the drinker. Its also guaranteed to get you pleasantly and comfortably drunk, without the downsides.
The third cup unlocks powerful psychotropic effects, causing temporary madness as the drinker loses their grip on reality. While under the effects, which can last several hours or until unconsciousness, the drinker will be bombarded with visions, of past and future, sometimes prophetic or illuminating, but can easily be confusing or frightening. Its not unusual for drinker to become violent towards themselves or others during the episode, and the process is often traumatic.
Hidden Effect: Drinking the Ambrosia on a regular annual basis can drastically increase drinkers youth and natural lifespan.

Ive been thinking a bit about a couple of things on innate abilities.

First, do all innate abilities come from eggs within a person's meditative mindscape across all dimensions? Or is that just for Chi? Because if innate abilities come from eggs, maybe one of the prizes that come from the lucky egg in CATALYST could be an innate ability depending on how it is opened or hatched?

Also, it was said that the innate abilities are held in the person's body and mind but not the soul https://questden.org/kusaba/quest/res/1002288.html#1004937 though it's interesting that at the start of SHARDS, Saba was able to use [UNDERSTANDING] as a soul in the afterlife. I think maybe because of his karma, he was able to keep his mind in the afterlife despite losing his body and thus keep his [UNDERSTANDING] as a soul.

Nah, wont be updating at that time. Or at least I’m gonna try not to. I have to wake up at like 7:30 now, so I’ll probably just start working on the updates earlier. Once my schedule adjusts I’ll probably do two shards updates a week on my days off. Catalyst on off days I’m not gaming to relax, and the other one will be whenever I get around to drawing, sometimes same day as a catalyst update, other times not. Either way updates will definitely be at night, but not at early morning.

>>136174
The eggs are abstract, its different from person to person an egg just worked for Chi and its symbolic. The LUCKY EGG can be a lot of things, but you need to fuck around with it. If you just leave it as is I’ll have a random table pop out the result, but if you mess with it, incubate it, try to feed it things, whatever, it’ll narrow the range. It could also be a DUD, thats how luck works sometimes, sometimes its luckier for it to be nothing (from a cosmic perspective).

And to your speculation, I’ll say this:

Imagine you are a infinitely small tadpole in a pool of water. And your whole life you’re slowly trying to build a bowl or a plate to carry some water in. Most people just make broken plates and it doesent work. Some people can make a regular plate, others can make a bowl, some can make a tank, others can syphon water from other pools, and some can even keep their bowl as they move from pool of water to pool of water.

Did some fanart of Iraphena from CATALYST. I had a specific image in mind, and wrote a short story to lead up to it. Ed suggested I repost it here, so here ya go.

---

After a long negotiation, Bobby promised you a random artifact in exchange for just one crate of imported slushee syrup. You had no idea what flavor it was, but the sickly black color made you not want to ask. Your Demon Eye Amulet wasn't reacting to it, and that was all you could ask for. (DEA - The sooner it's gone, the better. Trust me)

Once Slurps is gone, you give the mirror he'd handed you a closer look. Your amulet immediately gives you a breakdown on it.

MIRROR SPY - A round hand mirror with a wooden handle. To use, the person holding its handle must say the name of a person they can clearly imagine, while staring into the reflection. As they focus on the glass, they will be shown the person named through the lens of the clearest available reflection, if any are available. This could be another mirror, a metal doorknob, or even another person's eyes. This will only be visible to whoever is holding the mirror. You will be visible in the surface the mirror draws its view from, but only to your target.

You: Huh. That's kind of neat, maybe I should try it out. But on who...?

Maybe you'd catch her moving some of her artifacts, and get a better read on what all she has? It would be good to know in advance.

Picturing the thicc elf as best you can, you stare into the mirror.

You: Leshanna Iraphena...

The glass begins to cloud, blocking the normal reflection. You lean in closely in anticipation...

The cloudy image swirls, before clearing slightly. The view is still a bit blurry, but through it you can clearly see a figure.

The sooner we build the battery, the better as it will help out with a lot of projects, and even get us on track with making a mana pistol!

Especially since we started practicing precision with Nico, and even strengthening our claws so we can potentially mix them for the GUNKATA technique. I feel by the time we get a mana pistol done, our precision will be good enough, especially if we getting started on the battery soon.

New artifact ideas:
Friendliest Fire
A gun mod which utilizes a complex form of quantum phase transition to disable friendly fire. To use this, select a target with the alt-fire targeting laser, then hammer the trigger until they die. Upon contact with solid matter, any stray projectiles (and the casing, and even the gunpowder) will teleport and reform in a compartment next to the gun mod for quick reloading. The gun mod requires energy proportional to the ammunition used; it will lock the gun if the energy reserves are empty.
The downsides include: you cannot perform trick shots, any stray shots that make contact with an enemy will never deal damage, and you can't reload the gun while bullets are still reforming.
Warning: This weapon modification has never been tested by its maker with magic, or in non-Euclidian environments. There's no telling what will happen if you use this in a magical gravity well.

Absorbing Coin Maker
A mystic coin minting machine which takes any material whatsoever and makes a coin out of it. Whoever holds this coin will have any of the same material slowly exit their bodies and merge with the coin.
It's a godsend to gelatin-kin, but can be fatal if mishandled, especially if there are materials in the brain.

Well, Considering where Catalyst is at/going, I figure I should go ahead and drop the few Awakened ability suggestions ive been holding onto for likely candidates. I doubt anyone cares too much about them anyway so I might as well.

(Magic Fingers:): The user can summon free-floating hands, Which are initially somewhat nebulous in form but can eventually have more defined form based on the user's preference. Initially, the summoned hands have the same relative size, strength and dexterity as the ability holders real hands, and can either be controlled remotely, or can be set to operate independently via orders. As the abilities' level rises/achievements are completed, attributes such as the size, strength, and number of hands can be increased, as well as the distance and level of dexterity at which they can operate.

(Shadow Mirror):The user can control and manipulate pre-existing shadows, changing their shape and allowing them to interact with physical objects. The relative mass and power of the shadow controlled mirrors that of the shadows host object. The ability holder is able to stretch and pull shadows to a great degree, but cannot detach a shadow from its host object.

(Second Sight): The ability holder can see the aura of all living things within a certain radius of themselves, through walls and obstacles, etc., without the use of their eyes. Anything with a soul will have an aura to observe. The state of a beings aura can inform various information on a target, such as power status, general health, mood, etc. However, that is all based on various fluctuations in the aura that are up to the ability holder to realize and interpret.

(Oathkeeper):User can make a promise, or oath, to complete a single task or accomplish a goal and set a time limit to complete it. Once the oath is made, the user is granted a random skill or ability that will facilitate completing it, though the user has no choice over what they are granted. Generally, the more dangerous or difficult the goal, or the shorter the time frame, the more powerful and high level the granted skill/ability is. Until the oath is completed, the user cannot make another, or be granted another ability.

(Lightspeed):Allow the user temporary transformation into a light energy form and incredible speed, but can only move in straight lines while doing so.

I thought of this one as something that might work for Nipha as a potential healing ability with other uses. Based it off that old myth about cats stealing your breath while you sleep, but could probably be tuned to a kinda Hamon-like ability.
(Breath of Life):The user can inhale/exhale life energy via breathing. Inhaling can draw in life energy from the surroundings or a specific close target, while exhaling can breath that energy into others. Linked to and augments Stamina, and user's breathing ability.

And heres some more artifacts:
Armors
Aura Guard: Armguards that turn users Energy/mana into an armor of faint but solid energy around themselves. Aura can be used to boost physical strength, but require either lots of practice or precise control of own energy to utilize.

Spriggan Vest: A hardened leather vest of unknown make and source. Allows the wearer to triple in size, or shrink to a third of their size, with the appropriate alteration of mass.

Juggernaut Mail: A strong set of full body armor, makes it harder push, pull, knockdown, or stop the wearer when they are moving. User gets an additional increasing buff to momentum while moving.

Heartwood armor: A Wooden armor breastplate, which grows plants to cover the rest of the body once put on, therefore will fit most users. Once worn, it can mimic and grow any type of plant the user knows of, as well as mimic their properties and attributes, such as thorns or toxins, etc.

Cast-Off Armor A set of armor made of what seem to be scraps of iron. Great protection, but very heavy. Can 'cast off' the upper layer of the armor leaving only a very thin lower layer, Which somehow greatly enhances the wearers speed above what would be normal even without the armor, but great lowers defense.

other stuff

Uncanny Model: An incredibly detailed, but not alive anatomical model of a humanoid body. Everything from skin to hair and organs is accurate, and it even produces a lifelike amount of body heat. If cut, injured, or altered in anyway, it quickly regenerates over the course of a day to its normal state. Though technically identical to a living being, it's too generic and artificial in features to be mistaken as real. Comes off as unsettling more than anything.

Java Espresso Maker: A high tech and fancy espresso machine with an incomprehensible brand. Makes Stimulating Coffee once a day, Per person. This coffee increases energy, alertness, enhances stats, and effects fades over the course of a day. Over indulging can have serious side effects.

Broken Boomerang: An oddly shaped, ominous grey boomerang. Its image shifts and breaks at regular intervals, and visual or spatial aberrations appear around it, seemingly like its constantly glitching in and out of reality. When thrown, it constantly pops in and out of position and sight, and things in its path are warped and torn in a disturbing manner. After it reaches a certain distance, it simply disappears and pops back into existence in the position it started in when thrown.

If we have some time at any point, would our knowledge of tension-based traps and spears be enough to innovate a crossbow? Bows are a thing, right?
>>
No. 136488 ID: afe7de

>>136487
One of the advanced traps you could have made was a hidden hand crossbow, so yes, crossbows are definitely a thing. Also bows are definitely a thing.

With your knowledge of traps and string and tension you can make one with sub-par materials, get some FLEXIBLE/SPECIAL PARTS and you can make a really good one. The only problem is you're not skilled in it so you'd attack with some penalties. And you'd also have to make bolts for it or arrows, which wouldn't take you long, but would require TIME to do so.

> What IS normal?

Basically any form of stuffed person that has normal stitching is “normal”
So half fur, half ash, half cloth, etc all fall within the realms of “normal”
Tentacles like Octopi and Mimi are uncommon, but not unusual
Fish fur kin are uncommon too bc lack of water, but I just think they’re too cool not to include

If you see someone with more than 4 limbs that are functional, typically that’s unusual
If you see someone stitched together strangely, like they were put together from more than one part, half their face is fucked up and from another creature, etc, that’s very unusual
If you see someone coming at you that moves with an unnatural gait and has needles for teeth, run.
I will typically point out to you when something is VERY unusual. All the kin you’ve bumped into at least on the outside look like normal, albeit uncommon races. The buttons for eyes thing is just aesthetic though because the concept looked cool so we kept it (thanks PEA).

> What about the felt?
The felt haven’t been discussed more than briefly by your CLUTCH MOTHER, but they look sorta like these sketches, they’re needle felted abominations, yep that’s totally a slur to call them that, but also they’re cannibalistic, meaning they can eat paperlings but actually mostly eat other stuffies if they can. Oh and to make one you need the stuffing and cloth of another stuffie, then you need to stab it with a wood needle for a while and they can get… wild looking.

They also don’t have traditional blood and are slightly more fragile, but can put themselves back together easier as a result. They’re civilized enough to communicate and have their own civilization, but are commonly distrusted due to their incredibly aggressive and cannibalistic behaviors.

There won’t be any in “THE INVASION OF THE BODY-STITCHERS” But this should give you a clearer idea. I’ll have you talk about it in more detail at some point in the future.

=====

TLDR: As long as it looks aesthetically right it’s typically normal. What you saw or didn’t see at night was definitely out of the ordinary though. Two distinctly different eyes and weirdly shaped head and scar all points to something weird. That is if it was real at all.

Fanart and non-canon short story of a hypothetical meeting between Chi and one of my own characters.

---

After a showing like this, you felt it was safe to say that ARBOR DAY MEETUP wouldn’t pick up as other holiday events had. The attendance was poor all around, and although you all tried to make the best of it, the activities hadn’t been all that exciting. You were HAPPY you came, there were certainly a few nice people here, but you DOUBTED you’d return if this ended up being an annual offering.

As you’re all departing though, you notice a young girl going in the same direction as you. You remember her name to be TEMMIE, but you hadn’t talked to her much during the event. Something about her stood out, and it wasn’t that she was a HUMAN. It takes you a moment to figure it out.

[UNDERSTANDING] She’s staring at us, and yet she her attention seems to be somewhere else.
[LOGIC] Perhaps she’s spacing out?
[UNDERSTANDING] No, I don’t think that’s it.
[SABA’S KN] …I think she’s staring at me.
[LOGIC] That’s impossible. You don’t even have a body to stare at.
[SABA’S KN] And yet, I feel her eyes bore into me alone. Do any of you feel the same?
[LUCK] Nope.
[COURAGE] Not even a little.
[SABA’S KN] My point exactly.
[GUILE] Do you think she can hear you?
[SABA’S KN] Hmm… It’s hard to know. Perhaps we can study her expressions more closely to see if she reacts to-

Temmie: “I can Hear you.”

You’re taken aback, stunned at the thought that your mind was being read.

Temmie: “I have never known one who spoke so casually with their own past. Chi is a very interesting woman indeed.”
Chi: Wait… Can you read my MIND?
Temmie: “I cannot. If I focus, then I may hear the words of your soul. What I have mostly heard though is the Spirit who you seemed to be conversing with.”
Temmie: “Hello there, spirit!”

[SABA’S KN] What?
[INTUITION] I think she’s talking to you.
[SABA’S KN] That doesn’t make sense. I am merely a personification of Saba’s knowledge and experiences, not the ghost of the man himself.

She smirks.

Temmie: “If you think like your past self, know what your past self knew, and respond in ways your past self would, then what is the difference?”
Chi: Even if they're similar, my stats aren’t the same as spirits. There is a PHYSICAL difference in what they are.
Temmie: “Perhaps it shouldn’t work, but then Chi and I come from different worlds do we not? Consider that Chi’s world works on a more Strict set of rules than Temmie’s”
Temmie: “Even if it Shouldn’t work, it does. It must be a strange concept to encounter when you come from a world that doesn’t work in that way.”
Chi: That’s…

[UNDERSTANDING] She is at least correct about our own reality.
[LOGIC] I refuse to accept that explanation. It reads like a personal attack to me.
[CREATIVITY] I like it!
[LOGIC] Of course you would.
[SABA’S KN] I can at least confirm that she doesn’t come from where I did if what she says is true.
[UNDERSTANDING] We’ve seen hints of stranger realities than that at this very event.

You and Temmie exchange a few more words, before her expression shifts to DISAPPOINTMENT.

Temmie: “Ah, I appear to be Waking Up.
Chi: What?
Temmie: “May your future see us meeting again.”

You blink, and suddenly she’s GONE. All that remained was a commemorative GIFT BAG she’d been holding, which hit the ground moments after her vanishing.

That had been a STRANGE encounter, but that wasn’t unnatural for these kinds of events it seemed. Perhaps one day you’d UNDERSTAND what she really meant.

[LOGIC] I refuse to ever make sense of that.
[UNDERSTANDING] I believe that would be MY job.
[LOGIC] Then start slacking on it!

What happened to Shards?
>>

Nothing really, I’ve just been tired and had a lot on my plate. Crystal Spire development took basically half of last month of pure dedication, then I wanted a break and to draw/animate/play games.

But thinking it over a little bit now, Shards is just dense and unreasonably complex (my fault). It takes me forever to update, basically a whole day off work and I end up lacking the energy to do anything else that day. In truth I’ve been trying to figure out how I can reduce the workload or make the text smaller because I write way too much in these updates but I also feel like it’s important for the tale I’m telling.

It also doesn't help that I’m also running Crystal Spire at the same time (which I enjoy) and my brain is finally relaxing enough to let me want to do non-quest related art.

How about this, How would you guys feel about the quest honing down on one or two specific things. Chi is basically her own person at this point with stats and such, and it’s more about picking a specific plotline to follow and having that be the focus.

Or we could also have updated reduce text significantly with TP mostly being a lot shorter descriptions and only having one larger block of text per update.

Or something else, I’m open to a discussion about it.
>>
No. 137434 ID: 96c896

Each update right now covers potentially 2-8 things happening:
2-3 TP spent, background tasks completing, research tasks completing, bonus Bond events, dinners, and plot events. Plus we wind up voting on goals and tasks half the time.
Chi's life is rich and active, and we get to see a lot of it. I'm sure we don't need to keep track of all of it, but I'm not sure what to cut. You could split up updates a bit more, where we vote on 2-3 TP but don't use them all-- it's split up into two updates. The first update we suggest for social stuff or react to special events, but no voting on TP or whatever. The next update ends the phase and finishes spending TP, then we vote on the next phase but no general suggestions. So basically, an update where we make plans, then an update where we react to things.

Hmm, one thing that's increasing the complexity is there are several plotlines running right now. There's the black lotus stuff, the election, and all our Bonds. Maybe stop adding in new plotlines until some of them resolve?

Choices are usually presented 1 TP at a time anyway, why not make the next activity multiple choice? Cutting down on the description of choices might help too.

I knew Ed's gang were antagonizes. Too much shit keeps circling back to them. Two of them always gave off the impression they either want people they don't agree with out of qd or change them to suit their liking. Maybe there is credence to abusing Roaway after all.

I was wondering, how big is the Tengu worldplate people-wise?

Am I right in assuming Qara Tengu is the only big city, Tengu Academy the only place of advanced education, and the Royal Library the only library bigger than three 2m×2m shelves?

Chi: I will admit that I have not looked at the Tengu census data as of yet.

[UNDERSTANDING] That's okay, allow me!
[LOGIC] I already did the math.
[LOGIC] The TENGU worldplate is around 200km in radius, and a majority of that land is livable, sans the water sources, since wing kin can just fly.
[LOGIC] There's also a lot of land underneath, filled with caves, earth, minerals, etc that have yet to be fully tapped, but they're not really colonized because of the chance of monsters and because birds want the sky, not the underground!
[LOGIC] QARA TENGU is THE big city. There are other town squares that operate as pseudo towns/hamlets surrounded by 6-8 other clumps of land that are residential areas where various wing-kin live. The only settlement that is nearly as big is the one next to the WORLD PLATE TUNNEL. It's currently unnamed and mostly a merchant hub for those who cant fly.
[LOGIC] All this to say that TENGU is a small place and most of the activity is centralized to the main city since travel is super easy. Given that over 800 years have passed in the history of the plate and that a lot of kin just go and fly out of the plate due to wanderlust, die due to being a hunter, have issues during childbirth, die of old age, and that having twins or more is seen as rare to uncommon-
[UNDERSTANDING] There's more data but that's enough to estimate that there's AT THE MINIMUM, a population of around 40,000 permanant wing-kin residents, supplemented by an additional 10,000 beast-kin residents at the minimum. Give or take around 10k.

Chi: That's.... not that many wing-kin for 800 years...

[SABA'S KN] It's actually not too bad, though it would probably be higher if less kin left
[KNOWLEDGE] Or if historically Wing-Kin didn't become sellswords
[LEADERSHIP] Or if they were better educated, which is happening now

Chi: We're so behind...

So. SuCHESStion's graveyarded. Is it dead? If so, I'd like to reveal the absolute madness that SVilHQ's full motives had.

Even if it's not dead, I'll give a piece of the puzzle. He was playing his own game rather than the one everybody else was. He had a way to "cooperate" with the karmalings once he'd "won" the game he was playing.

>>139553
In that particular case, I'll reveal how he planned to "cooperate", but leave the rest as a mystery to be solved.

He went outside the box to find unorthodox solutions. One thing he figured out early was that the orders he gave did not have to be good ones.

Once he had the ability to gain and use karma, he'd offer tactical advice to karmalings for a price. He would also give hostiles orders he was paid to give, though he'd refund half if they refused to follow the order stated. If his services were used enough within a single battle, he'd effectively "swap sides" for the rest of the battle by ordering hostiles into bad tactical positions, ambushes, preset traps, etc. Gods could also pay him to aid the karmalings via the task system.

If he judged that the karmalings were outmatched, he might even swap sides for free. Otherwise, however, he'd aid the hostiles as "incentive" to pay up.

What were the rest of his motives? FIND OUT IF SUCHESSTION IS EVER UNGRAVEYARDED! Of course, he also has to "win" the game he's playing, too...
