Have a discussion thread for Preiss. I hear these things are useful.

Pretty much the usual stuff, comments, questions, criticisms, the answer to life the universe and everything. Y'know, That stuff.

How realistic is smithing going to be? Getting ores and smelting them can be quite difficult in reality...

well, we had a rock build a house for us. so i think it wont be stupidly hard. especially if we get someone with ranks in smithing.

I just want to say never feel obliged to respond to anything I suggest, ever.

Well, even if we have the Fount work on smithing-related tasks, we still need A. tools for mining and smithing, and B. a forge with a high enough temperature to smelt the ore.

The tools are the main problem. There's a bit of a catch-22 involved- you tend to need metal tools to make metal tools. Perhaps the Fount can bypass that issue?

The plan is to abstract it a bunch, because while I could go dive into all that its not the point of the quest. Metalworking will be about as complex as it is in Dwarf Fortress, give or take a bit of narrative liscence.

Okay, so we don't have to worry about making tools at all then? Dwarves do all their work with their fists, haha.

They do the work with their beards.

Well, when they're not muttering to their adamantine artifact tools.

>>75234
Basic tools are assumed to be part of a basic workshop. Special tools might come up if you guys try to do something fancy

Cool. It'll be nice to see how the settlement expands over time.

And for good reason, yours helped inspire this one alongside a bout of MGS 2&3

Well, as can probably be guessed, I've run into a bit of a stumbling block with the most recent update. It is in the works and ideally I'll have it up before the weekend.

Any ETA on it now? I am looking forward to continuing.

Current ETA is tomorrow afternoon/ evening. The one sketch is done, just needs a bit of ink and colour and then it'll be ready.

I just realized this quest reminds me vaguely of A Dark Room, but that is in no way a bad thing, just very neat!

Link for you if you're curious about that

Ah, A Dark Room. I've played it, though its not actually the inspiration for Preiss. Instead the core concept was intended to be a combo of RPG, Civilization, small scale RTS and a city builder like Sim City.

Part of it was because I've always liked RPGs where you can literally influence the face of the world and the places in it but always found these parts when they were present to be fairly minor or lacking. So I did what any sane person would do: I started up my own game to try and implement that general concept myself. Heh, we'll see how well it ends up working of course.

So yeah, sorry about the recent existence failure. Things should get back on track in the next week or so
