Ohai ;w;

I know there isn't much yet, but I decided to start a discussion thread because I doodled something and wanted to post it somewhere I'm new-ish to questing and wanted feedback.

I've been lurking around tgchan on and off for a long time, and I actually started two quests previously that have since been abandoned, but I was too scared/shy to talk to anyone back then. >< I'm hoping that this time around, I can actually talk and get to know some of you, and hopefully that'll help keep me motivated!

But anyway, feel free to discuss, ask questions, offer constructive criticism, etc. I'd really like to improve any way I can!

I may also post extra information/doodles here.

Thanks!

And here's suitcase cannibal Minty AU for Smik because I'm going to keep ignoring this quest suggestion but I am impressed by your persistence.

Censored just to be safe, though it's really not that bad, just bloody.

Okay, may as well ask:

Is the Candy Kingdom at war with anyone, or preparing for a war?

How have you designed Minty's stat growth; Actual stats or estimated skills? Do we get to learn more about her world, the more she learns from classes and personal experience?

And do you intend Minty to be the only POV-character in this quest?
>>
No. 89725 ID: dfe0d5

>>89724

At current moment, the Candy Kingdom is at peace. That may or may not change in the future, depending.

I guess her stats are more estimated skills. Not gonna get too detailed with it because I prefer to focus on story. So basically, like right now, she's at level one politics, so she only knows the bare minimum. And yes, I will reveal more information as Minty herself learns it. I can't tell you anything that she herself doesn't already know.

At current moment, Minty's the only POV character I have planned, but I have been strongly considering the idea of switching to someone else at some point, at least temporarily. It'll just depend on what direction the story goes in.

Hope that answered your questions. c:

Nah, you don't really want Pepper to be dead; she's too useful as an advisor. Just mutilated enough to be clearly less fit to rule. Of course, if everyone else thinks she's dead, that might make things simpler.

I am now glad I gave Minty something of a personality instead of making her a completely blank slate because otherwise this quest would have gotten pretty dark pretty fast. xD

Anyway, I'm just gonna dump this here because woo flashbacks.

I tried reporting the thread as a request to move it out of the graveyard, but I'm not entirely sure if that works or not. The way I know how threads have been dug out of the graveyard before involves talking to the mods on the IRC channel.

From http://www.tgchan.org/kusaba/news.php?p=faq
" All of the channels use irc.rizon.net for their provider. Room #tgchan is the general room for discussing issues related to tgchan itself. This includes quest discussion. The mods/ops found in this room are part of tgchan staff and should be contacted in case any trouble arises. "
If you can't do that yourself, uh, I can try to ask for you but I don't hang out in that channel very often.
>>

Yeah I didn't see a report but fortunately I check questdis often. Thread restored. >>/quest/629053

I was... too late.

"Look, I was hoping that being 'of age' meant that I could continue my studies when, how and if I wanted. Maybe that's not the case, but you shouldn't be slapping me around just before I'm about to give a speech! The people are also going to think badly of both of us if you go around hitting me and telling me off for slacking! Plus I have a speech to tell and I'll mess it up if I'm panicking because I'm waiting for you to punish me! So what I need right now is for you to stop seizing me by the wrist, and promise me you aren't going to 'punish me' any more, so that I can actually try to be a grown up politician instead of hiding from my responsibilities like a frightened little girl. So please stop trying to intimidate me?!"

Haha, sorry. I saw your suggestion only after I had started posting the update. I am kind of curious where things could have gone with that response. In future, I'll try to leave suggestions open a little longer.

That's not a bad framework, though. I imagine we can reuse the idea later- I expect we'll get another opportunity to stand up to our governess.

With the recent update and suggestions, I thought I'd take this opportunity to address the topic of romance in Minty Quest!

I certainly don't mind attempts to pair up Minty with someone, however, I would prefer that any suggestions of this nature be reasonable and not just try to throw her at people. If you'd like her to end up with someone, try to lead her in a direction where that relationship can develop and a romantic outcome would make sense. I know this is a fairly lighthearted story about a candy princess, and I don't want to spoil the fun, but I've still put a lot of thought into this and would appreciate some amount of thought put into suggestions in return! Some silly/joke suggestions are fine and give me a good laugh once in a while, but I'd rather they not dominate the quest. Minty's trying to be taken seriously here, after all!

Although there is a specific character Minty will be predisposed to liking, it's not set in stone, and she could potentially end up with any available character in this quest. The only limit is whether or not it would be out of character for her depending on the way she and the story develop!

That said, keep in mind that things may get pretty character heavy as the quest goes on (Gotta keep track of all those nobles, servants, and key townspeople after all), so it might not be a good idea to jump at the first romantic opportunity that pops up if you want to keep options open.

Just don't forget that, in the end, you're going to Honeycomb to prove your merit, not find a date!

Thanks a lot for keeping up with Minty Quest! I appreciate everyone who has read and made suggestions up until now~

No. 92965 ID: 6b0329

One thing, for the last couple updates we are having meet and greet with characters that the perspective character knows but we don't. I don't know what to do, or what choices to make. I don't know if this suggestion works for what you're trying to do, but the quest runner Brom helps the players with that problem by presenting some CYOA-style options: Check out either Static on the Wire or Enemy Quest to see what I mean.
>>
No. 92966 ID: ab7529

>>92965
Considering more than half the fun has been our making up rather silly responses to things, I'm not sure we really need hard-options like that.
>>
No. 92967 ID: dfe0d5

>>92965

Yeah, I can see what you mean, and I've been thinking about that issue too. I like seeing the responses from people without too many limitations put on them, but I also understand it can be difficult to know how to respond when you don't know much about the characters. One thing I was considering was putting some brief profiles here for characters Minty already knows. Would that help at all?

Thanks for the feedback!

The hard options in Enemy Quest I can see pushing it if you're trying to retain creativity. The softer option presentation in Static on the Wire where we get IC interpretation of the situation and things that occur to them might work though.

Gotta say, even though I didn't vote for licking, I'm a little disappointed Minty didn't react at all. It's fun to see characters react to crazy impulses / thoughts out of nowhere, or how they reason weasling out, or how vehemently they disown it.

(Although I can see why you didn't. Having to repress the idea in some way validates she wants to, and opens the door).

Yeah, I was super interested with how Cocoa would react to romantic and/or gross actions. Disgust? Joking? Shock? It would have given insight into the relationship between the characters, at the very least. In general, I feel it's better to roll with the suggested punches, (or makeouts and face-licking, as the case may be) rather than dodging them. Some of the silliest suggestions that have ever been made have shaped quests in the most surprising ways.

Personally, I have long held to the philosophy that if the majority of the suggestions in one of my quests tells a character to do something, then I will have that character do that thing, no matter what it is. Using Metamyriad as an example, if everyone told Lily to stab Raven right in the middle of their loving makeouts, Lily would do it. I feel the most important thing about questing is not the story you tell, but the way that story changes depending on the choices people make.

That being said, it is always up to the author to choose how the story progresses, and it is good to have a vision for what you want to have happen. I would just like to stress that, more than anything, suggesters appreciate a visible impact to their suggestions.

also this quest is super adorable, okay feedback over

Thanks for the feedback, I'm definitely taking everything said into consideration!

I actually did originally have a few different ideas for how I could acknowledge the suggestion without actually having Minty do it, and I was stressing over it for a while. In the end, I ended up cutting it though for the reasons stated (Validating it/opening a door).

However, I will keep all of this in mind for the future. I do love showing the effect of peoples' suggestions, and I'm sorry if this seemed like railroading! It's just that up until this point, I've had Minty only act on suggestions that line up with her current character. In future updates, I'll try to make more effort to find ways to acknowledge out-of-character decisions even if they aren't necessarily acted on directly.

I will say though, that the quest actually has been affected by reader suggestion in potentially big ways already, and I'm excited to see how things play out!

Thanks a lot for the advice and continuing to read even as I stumble through figuring out how to run an effective quest!

I would follow up on this by pointing out that a character's person-ness / independence in a quest is complicated. There's really more than one way to approach it (I'll point to this post >>70351 from the quest advice thread for a good summation of the major approaches).
>>
No. 92994 ID: e114bc

I'll voice an opposing view and say that making the character not react is a good way of keeping those kinds of suggestions from continuing.
