That voice. That's the... thing I heard on the radio earlier. But, now it's much more clear.

Where am I? And what the hell is going on?

failing that, ask him if there is some way to take out telezeds.

'What happened to me when this whole thing started? I mean, I shouldn't have this huge gap in my memory that encompasses several days of zombies being present.

Plus I woke up still dressed, with blood all over the floor, and a bitemark.

So really, if you could fill me in, that would be handy.

And if you can't do that, how about something a bit different: maybe you can tell me what direction to travel in to get to the nearest place with ammunition and food that we will both be able to reach and raid for goods.'

Jim and Charlie leave Jessie's place and head to the neighboring house. As they do so, they notice something that they hadn't noticed in the dark; spraypainted on three of the houses, in dark red paint, is a message:

"Searched by QRF. No survivors. Move on; safety to west."

Though, oddly, the NE house doesn't have this message.

Charlie: "That woulda been nice to now last night..."

Also, Charlie equips the hammer for dual-wielding purposes.

Jim axes the zombie to death. He's really starting to get used to this axe.

Charlie, not knowing what's going on, starts running over to the front door. He stops half way there, startled by the sight of a young soldier, who apparently dropped his rifle, panicking and running for his life.

Jim then tries opening the door, and, surprisingly, it opens freely.

Inside is a kid, no older than fifteen years old, wearing rather large glasses, scared out of his wits.

>Party member gained!

Meanwhile, Charlie, who is trying to come up with a nice lie to go with his uniform, is surprised again when three large, bone-like spikes impale the soldier. He's dead nearly instantly.

Charlie quickly ducks behind the corner, just before several more spikes bury themselves in the wall where he stood only a second ago.

Jim is about to say something to the kid, but he hears Charlie screaming...

Charlie: "JIM! JIIIIIIM!"

...and decides to skip the formalities and see what the hell is going on.

Jim: "Shit, just follow me, alright!?"

He just nods, apparently frightened even more by this.

As Jim heads back behind the couch, he gets a better view of the scene; other than the dead zombie, there's a human corpse, with a dark red piece of cloth wrapped around his head. Next to him is what appears to be a modified pistol of some sort.

I had five minutes, so I made this shitty little diagram thing to help clarify some things for anyone who's confused about the visuals. Plenty of items/weapons are missing, but you get the idea.

Jim, Charlie, and our unknown party member are labeled appropriately, and both armored and unarmored Jim and Charlie are shown.

1: Normal Zombie
2: Fast Zombie
3: Telezed
4: Tentacle Zombie (Tentacles removed for space)
5: Soldier
6: Corpse
7: Jim's Car (Right: Interior)
8: Truck (Right: Interior)
9: Full health bar
10: Low health
11: Critical health
12: Visual effect of Painkillers
13: Amount of temp. health lost per turn
14: Axe
15: Hammer
16: Assault Rifle
17: Rifle
18: Grenade
19: Pistol
20: Items (Clockwise: Fuel Can, Painkillers, Bandages, Medkit)
21: Knife
22: Hacksaw
23: Spent ammunition casings

There's an alphabet/number/symbol box in there too, for some reason.

I'll make an actual update tomorrow, and then I'll try to keep it up over the weekend.

Also, shameless bump.

Jim hands a flashlight to the new guy, telling him to watch his back. He then steps outside, just in time to see Charlie fire three nails into a fast zombie from close range.

Three more of the chitinous spines thud into the grass near the trio.

Jim and Charlie simply look at each other, then begin walking towards the soldier's corpse. They both look surprisingly... unsurprised. The new guy's still a little shocked, though, but he's recovering.

Jim: "So, uh, what's your name?"

Ian: "...I-Ian. I'm Ian."

Charlie: "Alright, cool. By the way, I'm Deathlord Thundercock, and this-" (pointing at Jim) "-is Fernando, my young Mexican sidekick. Together we fight crime with the power of-"

Jim: "...that's Charlie, and I'm Jim. What the hell were you doing in there, anyway?"

Charlie: "Hey, I wasn't-"

Ian: "I, uh, was just walking down here from the hardware store. Thought maybe there would be other people down here. It got dark, so I hid out in that house. I heard gunfire all night... I guess that was you guys, but anyway, I just hid out until morning. Then I saw you two across the street through the window, and called to get your attention. It didn't exactly work as planned... but you know the rest."

They reach the corpse. The soldier had apparently dropped his weapon, presumably while running for his life, though his armor is relatively intact. However, the helmet was torn apart pretty badly by the spines, and it won't really sit on Ian's head without falling off.

Ian, after seeing the bloodstains, is somewhat reluctant to wear the vest, but he manages to put it on.

As for a destination:

-All of those spraypainted messages hinted to "safety" to the west.

-To the east is Charlie's place, and the accompanying intersection.

-Ian says he came from a hardware store to the north. Charlie and Jim can confirm its location from memory; it's fairly close.

Charlie: "Sorry, man, but there was nothin' we could do. He was already gone by the time we found him."

Saul: "It's alright, you don't have to apologize. It's our fault... I'll make sure we send out a party to recover him. Y'know, give him a proper burial an' all that."

Jim: "...anyway, Saul, what is this 'QRF', if I may ask?"

Saul: "Oh, heh, that's just the name some of the guys came up with for our little group here. Stands for 'Quarantine Resistance Front'. Personally, I think it's more than a little stupid, but it's not like I had a reason to stop 'em.

Anyway, we're just a group of guys tryin' to keep each other alive, led by that Isaac guy I mentioned. We wear these-" he points to his headband, "-so we know who's with us."

Marley cuts in: "Listen, we don't have all day to stand around talking. Do you want to go talk to Isaac or head back?"

Saul: "Oh, come on, Marley, you know as well as I do that we don't have shit to do today." He turns to face the car again. "If you guys have any more questions, go ahead and ask, it's no problem."

Saul: "Who? He almost killed one of our guys the other day; the bastard was shootin' at everything that moved."

Charlie slowly holds up his rifle without a word, prompting an astonished look from Marley.

Jim: "Anyway, yeah, we'll go talk to this Isaac guy now."

Saul nods, and leads the three into the building. The entrance hallway consists of a hard concrete floor, stained with blood, and a small barricade at the end. Behind this is an armed guard with a headband, smoking a cigarette.

Further in, they come across what seems like a mess hall, followed by an improvised barracks, with mismatching beds that were apparently scavenged from nearby homes. They stop here, and Saul gestures towards the door.

Saul: "Isaac's quarters are through here an' to the right. If you have any guns, you'll have to put 'em on the table by the door. See you guys later."

(By the way, I marked Saul with a white cross-thing, and Marley with a black one. Yaaay.)

With that, he and Marley begin to walk back towards the front, while Jim, Charlie and Ian make their way towards Isaac.

Inside the next room is another guard (yellow), armed with an SMG, a bunch of metal boxes, and a wooden table. Charlie and Ian begin unloading their gear on the table, while Jim... realizes that he recognizes the guard. This is the girl who used to live next door to Jim; her name's Amy. ...Anyway, the trio heads into the next room, where another man, presumably Isaac, is standing behind a wooden desk. There's a stack of paper, a pistol, and a monitor on the desk. Also of note is the portable generator running in the corner.

...oh, and Isaac apparently has an eye patch.

Isaac: "Ah, you must be our guests. Good evening, gentlemen."

Jim: "Huh. Nice, defensible setup you got here. Though I imagine you'd have a bit of a problem if a fire broke out."

Isaac: "Well, I'll just have to agree with you on both accounts. We did choose this location because of its easily defensible layout, after all. Though it's not fire we've been worrying about recently.-" He chuckles quietly at this last statement, then regains his composure. "-So, I understand you three are new here, and I'm guessing you were brought to me because you want to get past the gate."

Jim: "Yeah, that's right. What's on the other side of that thing, anyway?"

Isaac: "Well, houses and people, to put it simply. When all of this started, we worked together to cordon off and protect our section of the neighborhood. What you see is the result of that.

But, you look like you've had enough idle chatter. If you're looking for a place to stay, I'm sure we could fit you into one of the houses down the road. There's electricity, and running water, but we don't know how long that'll last.

Oh, and we just recently decided to begin repairing and modifying the weapons of survivors like you. If you're interested in that, you can speak with the girl just outside of my office. Her name is Amy, tell her I sent you."

Charlie: "...well, holy shit, you guys have quite the setup here, don't you?"

Isaac: "Indeed we do, though not for long, it would seem. Like Saul told you, the military has recently begun actively attacking civilians, especially us. And not only that, but we're guessing we'll lose our electricity soon, and we don't have nearly enough generators...

...in fact, you seem like you'd know how to fight. Perhaps you will be able to help with that matter?"

Also, as far as you know, have the soldiers been attacking everyone on sight?"

Isaac: "We've seen and prepared our men for both the normal infected, and 'fasties', as you call them. However, we haven't seen any with tentacles, or any that can... teleport. These 'spiky motherfuckers' are also new. I'll be sure to inform the others of these. And, regarding the military; yes, they've been firing on everyone so far."

>(Firstly, a quick note on gun mods: they will definitely make any gun more powerful and useful, but there's a price; any modified gun has a chance of malfunctioning any time it is used. Once again, I'll roll dice for this, though the chances of failing are much lower. A simple failure will cause the gun to jam, forcing the user to spend a turn unjamming it, but if a 1 is rolled, [it's a d100, by the way] then something really bad will happen. Exactly what happens depends on the gun, but believe me when I say that it would suck.)

And I heard what happened to Saul and Marley. I suppose I understand why the latter... shot himself, they were brothers, after all, but I'm still not sure how the former was killed...

You said you found him outside with a stab wound, correct?"

We are connected to him because it probably is the will of Xom. He made a bunch of us after finding us one time and giving us to a dimension traveler. and he also gave us to a nihilist which exchanged hands with his sisters. and then a little girl found that one many years later. We also are with a hot elf lady and a Volto, whatever sub branch of human that is. Those are people who have us physically.

We've helped nonphysically two godslayers, Rudy Mann and Beardbeard. An adorable little cutebold. A lawyer. A Nevyduor or something like that and his friends. Some sergals. A new life-form we have unidentified but is a hovering ork and a doobie. Another Doobie. An Orc. and some others.

Oh, and please refrain from calling me "dude". The last one who did this was erased from existence.

>>48132
...you have a point. In fact, I'm somewhat impressed that we're having a conversation at all, Orb. One would expect nothing but unintelligible gibberish from an entity such as yourself.

>>48128
The possibility of Xom interfering is... unsettling. Even I must admit that his power is greater than mine.

However, I doubt that he is responsible for this.

...Orb, I must admit that I am surprised. I expected an argument, not a conversation. In fact, I may contact you again eventually, if I ever require the services of an avatar in one of the physical planes.

Now, I have work to do, Orb, and must depart soon. Is there anything else you would like to discuss?
