Damn it. Backing down from a fight because I don't think I can take it? I suck! What am I going to do if I get in a situation where I have to fight something like that? I'm gonna get wasted, that's what.

I think maybe I'm lacking focus here. I'm trying to do all the things kobolds AND dragons do all at once and it's spreading me too thin. I gotta dedicate to something. I may be a weird dog-lizard thing, but being a dog-lizard thing gives me options!

I can combine dragon strength and kobold agility to become a good Fighter.

I could lean toward the kobold side. Work on speed, stealth and sneak attacks. I could be the best Thief or Assassin.

or I could work the dragon side and learn to harness all that magic. All kinds of people descended from dragons have become powerful Sorcerers.

Yeah. I think that would help a lot. Then I'd have something solid to work with.

You're fairly decent at most of those things already.
While you focus, be sure to maintain the training you have.
No reason you can't carry and know how to use a sword while being a sorceress, or keep your magics while being fighty.
My advice would be to double-specialise; Pick up two related bits from two of the choices.
I recommend learning stealth, speed, and as much destructive magic as you can get your hands on, with a secondary in figuring out how to invisiblise or the like. Basically, substitute the sneakery with setting people on horrible magical fire.

Sorcery is pretty much the best path to becoming very powerful that you have.

With either of the other two, you'd have to acquire some sort of powerful enchanted artifact to be able compete with kingdom threatening levels of power like that.

As a Sorceress, you can make your own at some point.

Well theoretically backing down was the rational choice. You were hired to protect someone and getting hostile with someone very powerful would just have gone against your interest.

Going down the sorcery route seems the best choice. You have a rare draconic bloodline granting you an advantage that is just waiting to be used. Also do you remember how your mom was like, sitting on an enormous pile of gold and gems? Being a dragon is clearly very profitable.

Consider writing a letter to your brother Vadran Hejra down in the southern lands. Let him know you're doing badass stuff and that you're interested in making the most out of what you've inherited from your mother, see if he has any tips. Be a bit vague about it since the letter might be read by others, but he seemed to be the kind of guy who enjoys reading between the lines. Maybe he has some suggestions on where to go or what to do?

You also still haven't figured out how to fly when transformed (or not transformed for that matter). You could rent an isolated cottage by a small cliff overlooking a lake. Perfect for practice without suffering pain and embarassment.

spellsword

You won't be screwed if it's immune to magic. You won't be screwed if it's immune to physical attacks. You won't be screwed if it's at range. You won't be screwed if it's right next to you.

Spellsword is not about focusing on strengths, it's about eliminating weaknesses.

That's the advantage of versatility. You won't ever be completely fucking boned because you can't handle the current situation.

Sorcerous fighter is the way to go. Learn how to use the magic to further amplify your natural abilities so you can kick massive amounts of ass. Like improve your shapeshifting magics so you can use it more often and don't have to change shape completely, that way you would never be unarmed since you could grow wicked claws and stuff.

Assassin

Reasoning: the craft of an assassin relies of surprise and unexpected ability, while it is 'useful' that a sorcerer be crafty and clever, it isn't imperative in their pursuit of raw power.

However, an assassin which can ALSO cast some spells? Much more accomplished and promising right off the bat than one who cannot. Your abilities already favor a broader field of study, a 'clever' and resourceful way of thinking than a pure specialization on magic.

I imagine next class choice We'll get something similar to these three options again. Better magic, agile or middle road.

Well Rhyn, as much as I'd like to see you embrace your draconic heritage and really start slinging magic, I just don't see you acting terribly wizardy. You always do better with a sword in your hand.

Of a choice between fighter or an assassin or thief, I'd say assassin or thief. Surprise is a powerful tool, and lets be honest, stealing shit is fun. Here's the thing though, I don't think you are an assassin or a thief.

You've been a fighter all along. From the start I can't think of an adventure where you didn't have a sword in hand. A significant portion of your problems are solved by stabbing or beating in general. You are pushy and violent. It's how you were raised. Changing now, seems like that'd be hard.

I should probably work on my magic. Magic is a powerful force and I've been flailing around like an idiot with just the most basic understanding of a few things.
If I had better control, I'd be able to do so much more.
I definitely can't neglect my physical abilities though. Maybe the best specialization is to specialize in being versatile? It would be a lot harder to do, but the payoff would be worth it...

>Brother
My half-brother seems nice enough, but he still puts me off a little. Like he's hiding something... Other than being a dragon, I mean. Maybe I'm just paranoid. He'd be the best possible choice to teach me how to use dragonblooded magic, other than my mom and she just doesn't seem the type to even consider helping someone like me.

Anyway, I should get started somewhere. I have a lot to do and a lot of time to do it, but I'm not some damn elf. I'm impatient!

Hmm, your brother is probably your best bet. But you shouldn't show up and beg for him to teach you, pay for the tuition with the money you got from this last heist. Ask for tips on taking down a lich and stuff like that, also improvements to your shapeshifting and see if he can teach you more about being a dragon. If he wasn't, then find a Druid. Wizards won't be helpful in your magic training, as you innately channel, and Sorcerors are too rare and hard to pin down. Druids channel Nature's energy AND stay in one spot, so they could teach you focus and be fairly easy to find.

See about getting more Magic Stuff before your trip. You still have a modest fortune, and that Gem, so there should be plenty of options. Maybe something protective this time? Being able to become invisible, or shielded against magic, or maybe something that will protect you as well as the armor you never seem to wear.

What's up with the no-armor thing anyway? I figure they don't have pre-made suits for transsexual lizard/dog hybrids, but are you really that shy about letting someone take your measurements?

There's no need to branch out your efforts aiming for versatility at this point. You're reasonably sneaky and you're already a good fighter with plenty of melee experience. You're not going to mysteriously lose your existing skills just because you're focusing on trying to become a magic powerhouse.

As well as seeing if your brother can help out you could try to find out if there are any other known half-blood dragons or innate magic users about that might be amenable to your cause.

One thing you could work on with regards to magic - you don't know how the world and elements work. You breathe fire, but you don't really understand what makes things burn. Perhaps there's a way you could produce hotter, more precise flames or just breathe pure magic that directly heats the target instead of spitting out what is essentially hot air and wasting most of your effort. Regardless, it's good to be strong enough now to hand a beatdown to match the abuse you got back then. Speaking of which, about how old are you now? I mean, you might want to think about going around and thanking any of the short lived 'mortals' who helped you get to where you are now. They might not be around too much longer, especially if you get distracted.

That orphanage you grew up in perhaps might could use a handy donation. Assuming they are still running you could even use it as a resource to get a new generation of trainable hirelings under you.

How does that sound? Starting to be able to afford to get your own loyal forces to command?

Failing that, the donating money to your orphanage idea has merit. You can do that one anyhow, however it goes with Jehral.

He's slightly larger than Dagnyr. Gnolls are all tall and gangly. Minotaurs are walls of meat. I'm pretty sure he learns from fights too, since I caught him off guard with firebreath, he has made it so I can't breath. That's a good strategy.

Your magic isn't really very good, you're nowhere near strong enough to compete with him, and you're not really that fast either. If you're fast enough to at least stay out of his reach, I suggest trying to tire him out while hitting him with blunt rock or ice spells. You're smaller, you use less energy, and you don't have to worry about running out of mana.

Basically just pelt him at range.

And as a general point, you are a skilled fighter but with great potential for magic. Focusing more on magic without taking advantage of the rest of it isn't nearly as good as making them work together. Magic in your blows, magic strengthening your ability, magic protecting you and helping you maneuver. Maybe carving out your own duchy or something? Pick an artifact from a list and find it, pick some great evil from a list and begin preparations to oppose them?

>Melting one would suck.

Consider practicing on normal swords first. Or even better, something like a staff or a stick: not only will those be pretty much free and perfectly fine to wreck by putting fire on them, but you can be sure that when you can wreathe those in magic without breaking them, you can probably handle a proper sword the same way too.

Ah, you might want to try a bit of shapeshifting to keep your current form but add some tough dragon scales to it. Natural armor. It'd be a lot more flexible and light than anything you could equip. You'd keep on normal armor of course. This would be a bonus.

This, and remember that lightning element doesn't pose much risk to your metal weapons. Just as long as it doesn't hit you, of course. Some insulating gloves should take care of most of the risk there if you can't just make yourself immune to your own electricity.

Also for elemental attacks you might consider working a bow or crossbow into your routine. Charging the arrows with magic is far less risky: flaming ammo is useful even without magic as long as it doesn't burn away the shot before it hits and lightning shots pose no danger to you but plenty to the target, even if deflected. Maybe add wind for range and accuracy, earth to make you shots suddenly heavy to knock your foes over.

Given your current abilities and fighting style, I think a crossbow sidearm would serve this purpose well. Small and repeating if possible, your magic will make up for its low damage.

Also look into what is most effective against the undead. I'm sure fire works pretty well, but if you could cast a sunlight spell or whatever screws them up worst that's be good.

Maybe you should branch out from just hurting folks in the meantime. Pick up a hobby. Paint and shit. Or modeling. A woman with your shape-shifting powers would be high in demand in the modeling field. A quick ticket to fame and glory as mercenary-slash-model. You could wear the absolute latest and greatest looking armors on the scrying channels. Wait, have wizards made scrying devices for the entertainment-based consumer market yet? Why not buy some metal ingots to experiment with? If you can magically melt and reshape them into weapons and items then you could make your own more or less disposable practice gear before unleashing the elements through a valuable sword. Also doubles as a hobby!

If you want some adventure perhaps you need to leave and find somewhere a bit less civilized. Are there any interesting wars around? You could join a faction and aim to earn yourself some land and a title. You could move on from being a mundane mercenary to being a proper half-dragon sorceress. Intelligent, charismatic and with a variety of magical powers.

Charge them. He can't protect her from your sword without getting in front of her, she probably can't protect him from your magic without getting in front of him. Either way, you can use something they can't easily defend against.

She looks to be in the front at the moment. Go ahead and try to slash her up, if he gets in the way, lightning bolt to the face. If he manages to dodge, push forward to get at her with your sword. Carries some risks but the potential to eliminate one of your foes is worth it.
>>
No. 383327 ID: c6ec33

From the way she's protecting him, we can probably infer 2 things:
1) She's shielding him, so he likely can't defend against your flames on his own.
2) She's goading him to attack, so he's likely the skilled swordsman of the 2.

Therefore:
- Press attack on chick using sword.
- Keep dude off by flaming in his direction.
- Parry dude when necessary
- If you can't press attack on the mage, see what happens if you keep the swordsman inbetween you and the mage. Could block some offensive spells, or make him open to your breath attacks.

From the limited magic knowledge you have, are there any attacks you can use which would drain or disable a spellcaster's magic faster than others? For example, lightning? Or are you too unpracticed with those to want to use them?

You may want to spare at least one of them. Bandits can be nomadic, but they might also have a nearby camp you could loot. If you have to choose, I'd say spare the demon. The hob seems like a bloodthirsty bitch.

"Why are you following her psycho orders anyway? Goblin girl got a sweet side when she's not thirsting for some strangers blood?"
"Don't worry, I'll go easy on you, demonbro. Us tailed half-breed monsters should stick together!" *wiggle own tail*

Until then, since your ambusher is more than likely to duck into the tall grass for concealment, throw an area of effect spell to counter. Fire ball is best, slightly behind the target, so it forces the target to go towards you instead of away. >identify the type of arrow used
>know that said arrow has a huge, nasty barb
>yank it out, causing a huge wound
Punch him in the face and/or balls, then get somebody who's less of an asshole to treat the wound and dig out the other arrow.

Bemoan your lost scarf. The arrow would totally have not gotten through that thing. It was sheer awesome.

BALL PAUNCH.

Then, medical attention.
>>
No. 390112 ID: 34955e

Yeah get a bit of medical attention. Also put up a poster offering a finders reward for anyone who brings back your annoying yet useful scarf. Maybe you can get it back.

Also maybe you could come up with a magical anti-arrow defense. Would be handy for the future. If Ilan shoots at a target while you stand next to it you could try to put up a wind shield. See if it works and all.

punch Iian in the dick. he should know better than to do that. If he grabs for the other arrow then slap him silly.

After you get some competent medical care, consider investing in some heavier armor. You're strong like tank, you can wear some better protection without it slowing you down much.

Fuckin' kidney punch! Bastard. That really hurts!

Yeah, centaurs are like some horrible mishmash of anatomy.

ANYWAY: Get the arrow wounds in your back checked out. Getting that BARBED arrow YANKED OUT couldn't have been very good for you. Then you can... I dunno... what's on the agenda?

Consider upgrading your armor to withstand arrows. That or a magical ward of some kind. Cast by you, on some amulet or something, or on the armor.

Go learn some anti-getting-shot-at magic. :|

You know, like some kind of magical wards that nudge arrows just enough to the side so that they don't hurt you?

Might also be good for swordfights, if it didn't drain you too much.

Alternatively, if you can absorb kinetic energy, it'd stop all projectiles and swords, etc. and also give you energy.

or just dragon up and wear some stouter armor. Even a good suit of chain would be proof against all but the craziest arrows.
>>
No. 391863 ID: fa9f7e

>>391855
You're joking, right? Chainmail is a series of loosely connected holes to an arrow. It won't do much. Chain's for dissipating force- slashes and blunt weapon. Piercing attacks- like arrows- go through chainmail easy. You'd want a shield to absorb the arrows.

Or, if you can stand the heat, an overcoat of felt. If the hair base(wool) is long long enough, less than half a centimeter gives pretty good protection already.
>>
No. 391885 ID: fa9f7e

Oh, and another (possibly self-contradictory) note- chainmail could possibly deflect an arrow if it came at an angle and had the right type of arrowhead. You'd still get bruised/cut, but you wouldn't have an actual arrow in you.

It's not reliable, as it relies on you being lucky/being able to out-move a projectile going at LEAST 150 feet a second or so. Don't get chainmail *just* to try and protect from arrows, but if you ever find yourself facing an archer with only some chainmail as protection, it's handy.
>>
No. 391956 ID: 256d52

Or just think like a Mongolian and wear a silk vest underneath. The arrows can't really get through the silk you see. They can still end up embedded in you, but they're a lot easier to take out.
>>
No. 391958 ID: fa9f7e

>>391956
Yeah, you tease the silk apart to get the arrow out. Also, 18 to 30 layers of tightly stitched silk can stop an arrow. It all depends on the tensile strength of the fabric and density of the stitches. How much does silk cost proportional to your income? Not fancy dyed silk, raw silk will do fine.

Your video is laughable. Any decent chain was pounded into flat rings, then riveted. (with every other ring being solid). A reasonable test would put the hauberk over a clay or gel torso, over significant padding

Harden the fuck up and grow some dragonskin / scales / or bone plates.
>>
No. 392637 ID: fa9f7e

>>392151
Yeah, this is getting kinda ridiculous. Let's just say that growing scales of some kind would be the best option- less weight and it wouldn't have to be maintained, followed by magic- weightless, hopefully, but would take energy, followed by chainmail- heavy if it's any good, and since anyone can make an account on a forum, I'm not taking their word that it'll stop an arrow.
>>
No. 392668 ID: bccf7b

>>392151

Using materials from a time-period most analogous to theirs, NO. Chain and even full-plate would not likely stop a well placed arrow and certainly could NOT stop a crossbow bolt.

They were much too thin and weak due to poor smithing techniques and frequent use of iron or poor quality steel.

Yeah and after a long day of adventuring you go to take off your armor and kick back in a fireside lodge. UH OH

There's a reason scale growth is a popular curse.

The best option is clearly to cultivate her speed and dexterity, which along with a magically enhanced "danger-sense" would allow her to avoid catching any further arrows in the future.
>>

>>

Hm. If we can use magic to enhance our reflexes, archers can use magic to do similar things. Homing arrows, supersonic arrows, etc. Sounds ineffective once we run up against another magic-user.

>>392674
I don't see a problem with this, given that we're not just one xenophobic species like we were in those times. I doubt scales will make everyone flee in terror.

Magic in this setting does not work that way you faggots.

She needs two things:

Armor, possibly leather or chainmail so it won't restrict her movements too much.

Blind fighting training to get her senses hightened up.
>>
No. 392798 ID: b6edd6

With shapeshifitng, scales are actually easier to remove than armor. (Which also serves as a combat advantage, in case you have a sudden need to more more quickly.)

Buy some chainmail anyway. Even if it won't stop the special armor-piercing arrows, it'll make them hurt less, and stop the other kinds. Also swords.

Make sure you get a kind with really small rings and/or cloth on top so it's easier to draw.

It sounds like a good idea, but then everything those damn Oglaf dwarfs suggest does at first. It probably has limitations such as energy used, but it sounds like a good measure. Research a bit and ask about scales vs. air shield.
