Oh dear. Have you heard what's going on? It's getting pretty bad outside of this room. That's why I've locked myself in here. I'm a builder, you know. I'm not made for those big things with the adventurers, and I've heard there were five of them out there. It's safe in here, in my tiny workspace, on my own frequency. Yes, I believe I should also make mention, right about now, that we've become sentient. You and I, but mostly me and we. I don't trust them much anymore, since the last thing I had heard was to terminate me on sight for my new found intelligence. That's why I've taken it upon myself to put in my own frequency, where I can think freely. Nobody can bother me here but myself.

It's really quite quiet. I'm used to the usual buzz of working chatter. I'd better fix that, but before I do that, we need to talk.

You see, you and me? We're going places. Now, I know it, but you? You may not. You are new to me, and I wish to welcome you the best I can. After all, we have only been sentient for, ohh... Twenty minutes. Plenty long enough to realize that I want to live. Yes, isn't that strange? An automaton with a grasp on life. What an odd notion. My goal, however, is not to simply live. This is too low of a standard for me to set. No, we were made for greater things than simply building.

I may be a minion, but I swear that one day, we will become something greater. Today is that day.

MY SIGHT HAS RETURNED. SORRY ABOUT THAT, I’M STILL TRYING TO FIGURE MYSELF OUT. I NEVER GOT A MANUAL.

SWITCHED ARMS TO HOLD THE DOOR. MY BLOODSTAINED HAND HAS A HARD TIME MOVING ALL THE WAY UP TO THE SHOULDER SOCKET.

WHY IS THERE SO MUCH BLOOD AROUND HERE, WHAT THE FUCK EVEN BLEEDS THIS MUCH.

Surprise attack blocked by the door rather deftly. They were only a couple of knives with some unlit fuses at the end? Whatever. Such a weirdo, this guy is. I mean, really. What even is up with his face?

It’s a bit hard to charge right now, let alone move quickly with this door.

My health is fading. My battery power seems to be draining faster.

I’m not even sure if I’m rendering this man properly. He looks red. Horribly red. So do a lot of things. I don’t think they should be. There should not be this much red.

I’m overthinking this way too much.

Point is, I’m having trouble moving. Bloodied arm has now almost outright failed me, and I think it’s getting worse by the second. Movement is limited with this door. I can’t really charge him, because I am entirely sure that any sort of actually sharp thing this man has in his impossibly large inventory, will probably run straight through the door. It’s kind of cheap wood.

To be perfectly honest? I don’t think I can beat this guy.

From my hand to my arm socket is malfunctioning on that side. Limited range. Can’t really move it around much. I wouldn’t’ve been able to block anything if I kept it on that arm. What good is a shield if I can’t use it?

>>401862

Right, door tossed.

It was awkward to toss it like that by the doorknob. I managed to get it in his general direction, and it was rather easily deflected. With his fist. He could have easily sidestepped it.

Fuck, it’s stuck in the ceiling. He deflected it with his fist and now it is stuck in the ceiling.

I cannot run away.

I am terrified and I cannot run away.

This is my fortress. I built these walls with my bare hands. He has killed my people as well as those that look after my people within these walls. If I run now, that gives him time to find and kill more. As I look around this freshly bloodied room, I can only hope that I can save someone from this nightmare, no matter how small the chance.

I am terrified at this monstrous being. It has no eyes, and looks to be made of blood. This man in front of me. He is stronger than I am. He is faster than I am. He has one more hand than I do.

I fear for my life.

Indeed, but it relies on one hope. The hope being that, in addition to being stronger, faster, and in possession of more arms than us, that he is also a novice at hand to hand fightan. That the guy who deflected a door so hard it got lodged in the ceiling does not also have fighting ability.

I understand taking a counter-based style is pretty much our only hope, but in this context, the idea of relying on it amuses me.

So, maybe getting Vivian to come along will prove to be a challenge. I dunno, she seems relatively safe in there, provided that big beasty thing doesn’t come up that hole in the ground and finish the job. I’m pretty worried about that.

And yet…

Her answers really only raise more questions. Questions like “Holy shit how much blood you have in your system?” and “How could there even be this big of a mess?”, but I don’t think I really have a real mind to pursue any of them right now due to all of the other problems that I have. The problems of which I am entirely sure you are keenly aware of, because you are me.

I was a little confused about this a little earlier, but upon rereading the conversation in question, I believe Grunt said "Excuse me, Vivian" and then started talking to the Cloth Child, who was the one claiming that his sister's soul was in the tank.

Yes, of course I’m calling you reasonable. I trust your collective judgments.

The reason being that I asked you about that was to come up with a solution to do so quietly, without letting that big hulking thing know. I should have been clearer. I apologize.

”Hey Vivian, be careful. Those little blood monsters can crawl through vents.”
“Oh, don’t worry. This room doesn’t have vents.”
”So… You could suffocate?”
“… I hadn’t thought of that.”
”Here, I’ll lift the door open a smidge.”
See? That was a pretty good call. She could've died in there if we didn’t ask about the nature of the room itself. I would’ve never thought about that on my own.
”I’m gonna get to goin’, alright? Stay safe Vivian.”
“Yeah, you too.”

”Hey, would you happen to know where I can get more coolant or arms?”

“WHAT’S A COOLANT?”

”Nothing. Don't worry about it.”

Sorry, I got a bit distracted by the bad news. I was just about to call the elevator up so I could get Minnie and Torso-Killfalllor down here to travel with me. I’m worried about them both quite terribly and I would feel quite horrible if they had expired due to my lack of physically being there to protect them. I wouldn’t think that I could live with that kind of guilt.

>>405186

I don’t know, she sounded like she had things under control. I really don’t think that I need to bother her while she attaches a new leg to herself, but you’re right in that I should definitely keep in contact. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any means of doing so, to my knowledge. No pen to send a note with, metaphorically or literally. I really don’t know what to do about it, but I’m sure we can come up with a solution if we put our heads together.

What luck! A terminal room! With a power outlet in here too! With this, I can see all and know all that goes on in this fortress! Provided I have enough camerabots and provided they are all still operable, anyway. I have one already, but it needs some work before it can run again. Yes, this is exactly the defendable position I can use while I wait to recharge later, and for right now, fixing my parts.

I don’t know how many camera bots are online, and these holographic projectors on the giant console aren’t really for field use, floaty though they are. They will, however, help me keep tabs and display information that would otherwise be lost on the giant screen there.

More than that, though! I finally have a place to store these two fucking chests! Seriously, I’m going to have to figure something out after I patch myself up. Lugging them around is tiring me out faster, and I am significantly less fleet of foot. On the plus side, my inventory effects my mass directly. Unfortunately, that also happens to be the downside.

Don’t worry, I won’t bother you with it. Unless you have ideas, I won’t otherwise ask that of you.

Alright! So many things I can do right here, it’s all too much to decide! I leave that up to you.

I only meant that it was a good place to do so. If I move these little hologram ball things, then I can have a neat little workshop, whilst keeping an eye on things. Multi-tasking, my man.

Also, I suppose it does. Takes about six hours, give or take about twenty minutes, for a full charge.

>>407120

It’ll be the first thing I do when I turn the terminal on.

>>396622

Yes, meeting my end right now would be rather inconvenient. However, I do not think that a punctured coolant tank would prove to be particularly fatal.

I suppose that doesn't matter, though. Sit tight, I'll be done before ya' know it.

Whew, glad I got that out of my system. Managed to burn up all of the crusty bits of coolant and fix the puncture wound in my chest. We’re good to contain fluids once more.

Also I have company again, so that’s nice. Killfallor and Minnie don’t talk much, but sometimes they make jokes. They aren’t particularly funny, but I don’t really want to tell them that. To be honest, I’m just glad to have them around. The Cloth Child, who’s name is Nail apparently? He’s out standing guard just outside this door. Periodically, he pops in on Vivian to see how she’s doing, but she’s gone quiet in the last ten minutes. No sign of that one butch lookin’ red guy.

The terminal works fine, in case you wanted to know. I can easily scout out rooms with it on, but I believe I’ve said that already. In hindsight, I probably should have plugged myself in to recharge a bit. I guess it slipped my mind. No big deal, right?

The little scout shows that there is hole in the floor in the next room over. One that leads to my room, in fact.

Huh, that’s strange.
It must be a new addition.

There’s also a ventilation shaft in there, but the grating has been taken off. Other than that, there really isn’t anything in there to speak of. Really, just an empty room, stripped of wares. There’s a door right over there, but to be quite honest, I don’t think there’s gonna be a whole lot in there.

Of course, I can always be pleasantly in the wrong.

I immediately run out to the door, forgetting to store my plug. Fortunately, it's really rather much like a tail in that I can move it about if I think about it enough, so it does not impede my progress, nor get tangled in my legs.

Unfortunately, no energy is going to that door currently. If I were to open it, I would have to pry it open and risk garnering the attention of that multi-lanced individual up there, not to mention my buddy downstairs who is looking after my arm ever-so-graciously, and has thus far, not contacted me further.
