You suppose hitting thing's the most important part, and unleash a volley of stones at him!

Wow, you suck at this throwing business!

Oh, he gets in your face fast enough. You complain (with your fist) about him moving so much while you're trying to practice throwing at him.

He complains (with his club) about you throwing rocks at him in the first place.

You decide put your foot down about the subject. He reluctantly bows out.

We're still not really that hungry yet. Don't really get hungry too fast for whatever reason when you first start out. No rush yet.

>>78503

Thankfully, the hobgoblin only got the one hit in, and he did even less damage than the last gobbie you fought. You're only down to 6/11 HP.

Right. We'll want to avoid confrontation then ... for the meantime, is it possible to practice sneaking? Does that consume more energy or something? I'm not familiar with the system.

If possible, practice sneaking. Otherwise, just go about your business - the business of scouting out the rest of the floor for treasure or cutting tools.

>Skillz

Alright: In SS, you gainh experiance when you defeat foes. This goes into an 'EXP pool'. As you do things, you learn to do them better, and take EXP from your pool and 'spend' it. The more you spend, the closer you get to Lvlup.

Sneaking we could've practiced a little back before, as we had still some 6 exp left in our pool. We're now down to 3 after that fight.

In other news, while gathering up the stones thrown in the fight, (two can't be found) we found our first scroll!

Labeled 'KLYNKYB YTRIU' you have no idea what's on it or how to pronounce that!

Gaaah, so cute!

Anyway, randomly reading these is bad policy, and generally a desperation tactic. Let's wait til we can get one identified proper.
>>

>>78526
Wait until you have the following before reading scrolls:
1 potion
1 glowing _____
and
1 other scroll.
from the results with those available, it's easier to id scrolls.
>>

>>78526

I'll agree that reading it now could be pretty bad, but waiting until we find a scroll shop could be pretty tiresome as well. It's always been my strategy to test scrolls in the early levels when I finish a floor. That really only backfires when you get stuck with a cursed item that really screws you. So long as you did it with no weapon equipped, what's the worst that could happen? Curse the robe? Eh, that sucks, but it's not awful.

Don't test potions this way, of course. A poison potion would kill this poor bastard off right quick. Same with jewelry, some ugly stuff out there.

You rest a little before moving on, healing up to 10/11 HP.

(I'll assume you meant the one to the south-west/bottom left). Following the hall you find a room with a couple of things: a stack of 32 orcish bol- ARE THOSE BREAD RATIONS OVER THERE? FUCK YEAH.

The darts are probably from a wild-firing dart trap, I wouldn't approach them unless you feel confident in trap-disarming skills.

Already done. You do some (accidental) auto exploring and almost immediately find a rat. Asleep.

Incidentally, the bolts are just lying there, and considering there's well over thirty in the stack, if that was a trap, it'd be well spent by now.
