Moving Out is a horror roguelike quest about getting the hell out of the house. It will contain themes of dehumanization, abusive places, agoraphobia, isolation, and the upward struggle of recovery. Associated content warnings may include transformative body horror, gore, self harm, imprisonment, and unreality.

Normally I'd say "heavens, no", but if the house is less likely to try to kill you this time around, maybe it's worth it.

Have you ever seen an exit?

Definitely open the door and check out what's making that noise. As far as it seems, YOU are the only one in this place. If YOU can find evidence of someone (or someTHING) else here, that might either be good news or bad, but regardless it's good to know.

Have YOU ever seen other means of egress other than doors? Are there any windows in this house?

It's hard to pick up tone through text, but I think she was just joking. She has been quite well behaved for a sentient being confined to another person's head. If that comment is still bothering Jack he should just talk to her about it before jumping to dangerous schemes.

Fair point however (breast thump)
1. She is installed on Jack. They don't want to fight since they can't get away from each other.
2. She's been open to negotiation, which she won't be if Jack keeps treating her like an enemy
3. She doesn't have to be an existential threat. She can choose not to, and so can Jack.
4. She hasn't hurt anyone, despite several opportunties to do so.

Life is dull.
There’s no other way around it.
You’ve worked hard - you’ve contributed to society. But at the end of the day, all you come back to is that same old TV in your livingroom.

An acrid scent lingers in your hovel. You’d say its the same sight you’ve known for years now, but the truth is that the bits of plaster in the back seem to be peeling off more and more every day.

At least you still had your television set.

You had set the damn thing up a while back - a radio transceiver, typically made for logistical workers hauling goods over long distances. Jury-rigging a spare set to act as a television antennae was difficult, but it was better than nothing.
Still, the microphone dangled off the side, the cord twisting and untwisting as you try to navigate to the mildly interesting soap opera you caught the tail-end of last night.
Turning the knob, a picture starts to form, blanketed under a layer of static. For once, it doesn’t sound like a pre-recorded show.

“I’ll try the middle branch this time.”

Davey continues forward for a short amount of time, heading up the inclined path.

Then, he’s stopped short in front of a thick slab of metal.
“Oh… another rusted door. These tunnels musn’t have been used in quite some time.”
Like the walls of this place, it seems quite weathered.
“I don’t know if we can use the same strategy on this door or not… it seems different to the last one and the sides of it have been sealed fairly tightly by its mechanism.”

Davey leans in closer, the camera going askew briefly.
“There’s an indent for a key in here….”

He looks around nearby, but naturally, things aren’t that convenient. No keys to be found.
However…

“Oh, um. There’s something in the wall nearby too. It looks like one of those little dumbwaiter things, but it’s kinda small. I’d have to crouch to get in it. There’s a button on the side and a green light beside it.”

True enough, there’s a faint glow coming from the wall - you can’t tell the colour, but you’ll take Davey’s word for it.

“Well, there’s still the last branch for me to check out. I’ll head back.”

Pitter patter, pitter patter. In the gloom, all you can hear is Davey’s footsteps inside the tunnels.
After hours of spending time with Davey in front of the camera, it feels surreal seeing things from his perspective. It’s not long before Davey skids to a stop, jumping back a bit.

“Yeep!”
Davey gasps, the sound of crackling electricity audible through the camera’s microphone.
Still water - and the glowing edges of rotten electrical wire.
Even you can see the arcing of electricity above the water, where some of the wiring isn’t fully submerged.

“The floor’s electrified… I’m lucky that the ground near me’s insulated, but there’s been a leak… I can see water dripping from the ceiling near the panel.”

“What’s the panel look like?”
He turns the camera over toward it. It looks rough.
“It’s corroded… even if it still worked, I don’t think I can touch it without some kind of insulation. And there’s enough water that it would go up to my ankles, which is still enough to zap me.”

Davey stops for a moment, the camera on his shoulder swaying a little.

“Uh, maybe I could turn it off somehow? We did see that control room, but I wouldn’t know how to operate it… I could try looking for an instruction manual, but that’ll take time, and I can’t read if I’m in the dark. “

It does seem odd that these tunnels are so dark, despite being man-made. Perhaps the emergency lights are off?

“I’m going to head back to the intersection for now. But we’ve checked all the pathways.”

Davey returns to the intersection, breathing out a sigh as he slumps against the wall.

“Phew… at least we’re making progress. This place is a little concerning, but I can still hear the machines in the distance. I guess they won’t be leaving for some time yet. This is really getting my heart pumping!”

The camera shifts, placed low to the ground as Davey faces you again, his whiskers glinting in the cone of light his torch provides.
“We’re so close… if we can get through to the other side in one of these places, I think we could get saved!”

He leans forward, fingers tracing lines through the dirt.
Soon, a crude map forms, scribbling quick symbols about what each of the rooms are, and the obstacles blocking specific areas.

“When you’re here too, Rory? I think we can figure out a way through this.”
He trusts you. Best not let him down.
“We’ve got time to think, I can just leave the flashlight off while we’re deciding a plan.”
The implicit thing is that he’d be sitting completely in the dark while you think of a plan.

Bridging that gap is the most straightforward plan, and safer than messing with electricity.

It would be worth spending a flare to fully investigate the supplies in the small room. We want long planks, ropes, and maybe a hammer and nails. If you can't find any of those then some insulation to try and deal with the electricity. You might be able to just push the wires out of the water with a long pole, although padding his feet might be enough if we're desperate.
>>
No. 1101309 ID: 3df1ab

Yeah, light a flare in this room.

If you can find a second pole, preferably a hooked one, you could possibly pull the electric wire out of the water.

PART ONE: https://questden.org/kusaba/quest/res/1002454.html

Thousands of thousands of years ago, a Grand Slime was murdered by a mysterious entity known as the Void King.
Thousands of thousands of years later, Nemo reawakens with only a few fractured memories of her former life.
She quickly reunites with two of her broken pieces, and sets out to explore the world in search of the remaining fragments of her shattered core.
After accidentally uncovering and releasing a strange figure imprisoned in stone, Nemo meets another unfortunate end, and it's up to her other parts, Humphrey and Mirrow, to carry on the mission to reunite themselves.
Elsewhere, but not too far away, a runaway Elsekin named Sam is trapped in a dense forest filled with hostile vines.

Walk the path. The thing about people that live in cottages in the woods is, generally they have a path they use to get to the cottage. It's not going to be the main path, but you will see a side path somewhere. If you can't find it at all, that's when we try out the sigil of sight.
>>
No. 1101057 ID: 6c233e

Its just the spooky woods, as long as you stay on the path (avoiding noisy leaves and twigs) you should hear anything stalking you early enough to avoid it.
>>
No. 1101066 ID: c1f120

Caution's good at this stage, let's try to take it slow. Get our bearings in these woods first and all that good stuff.
Sigil of Sight is likely going to be useful in the future, but not now, especially when we don't even know what we're looking for. Sure, it's a slime with a core shard in it, but there could be tons of slimes...

Actually, searching for shards of our core specifically using the sigil is a pretty good idea! If we can ever find some time to cast that (and the energy to spare), it might behoove us to do just that.

Just to recap in case anyone doesnt fully remember, we're here because Grace of the Underworld told us a piece of our grand slime core was somewhere in Froasting and that this piece had the power to heal slime crystal, so we can both heal Nemo and hopefully convince her to join us if we meet her. Grace also wants us to write her letters once a month (not urgent) and find a way to kill the Trickster, which it seem we'll likely need all of our pieces in order to do.

We have a spell phone with "Push", "Pull", "Hot", "Cold" and "Mend" crystal magic spells and Tricky's contact. We have a cloak that channels void magic and know the runes for "Blink", "Ask" and "Beacon". (Also worth noting that void magic only works for us because Cali is bonded to us)

The Void King is also currently looking for parts of a weird gem, that might be our core? I don't remember if that was made explicit, or if it might be some other gem. The map shows the places they've checked. The west set of smaller islands is where we started, and Froasting, where we are now, is the forest in the south. If we feel like it, when we're done here we might want to take the opportunity to go on to the Yawn region (south east) and visit the 'slime university' which the doctor suggested one of our pieces mightve ended up at (also im just super curious what a slime university would be like i bet itd be amazing)

Investigators are likely trained to keep searching when a distraction appears, and hiding someone under the table doesn't work well when it's the first place you kick.

Get Anders and Bellany to an area the Touched doesn't have jurisdiction to investigate. They might notice something, but the more bratty whining you can get out of them, the more red tape they'll get caught in.

Unfortunately I can't think of anyplace on the train Bellany can go that the Touched can't. And even then, the Touched are a wild card in the best of times. Left unsupervised they might just wander in anyway because the voices in their head told them to! Luckily she seems more focused on stuffing her face and hasn't yet noticed us.

I make eye contact with the hired gun and beckon her over. Lo lo lo she is big enough to block half out booth!

When the world was young, at the mouth of a mighty river, upon an island five miles wide sat the First City.

In the center of the First City, at the island's highest and most sacred point, within the First Wall, sat a garden.

The wall has one gate, and the gate has one guard, who is the First Messenger.
The Messenger wields the First Sword, to enforce the First Law, which is this:

-Each day, the garden may have only one visitor.
-That visitor may choose only one of the garden's three boons.
-After partaking, none may visit the garden again until every other resident of the First City has had a chance.

The garden's three boons are a pomegranate tree, a fig tree, and a fountain.

Kasi, dog of the vats.
Proficiency: Adventuring, Brewing, Soothsaying.
Ambition: Warrior

Kasi has found that not all sacred fruits grow in the first garden. Where the mixing of the waters occurs, and the two seas separate out into waters of the ground and the abyss, there lies a seed. And within this seed lies a magical poison. When put into a blessed vessel of fired clay, the poison may transform into a tincture of health, spirit of madness, or a deadly illness. It is not needed for thirst of the body, but rather, for thirst of the soul. And when Kasi leaves the city to seek the sacred seed, she will brew a new and wondrous drink yet untasted, and it will be called kurun, and it will be good. This is the future Kasi, dog of the vats, has seen.

He softly whispers, before giving us an lot more space, an silence fills the air, as we both recognize the severity, and weakness of our relationship, I wish to talk more about our relationship, but I feel too tired to do so, maybe we could go somewhere or do something to get our mind off of this, and change the subject.

Beans, I… I know you were listening, I just have a couple questions to ask, who has been in the right? Me or Alex? What should we talk about next, I… I really don’t know where to go from here.. And where should we go and do?

[A] Go to the Lunchroom, for a quick snack to refresh our minds. I'm probably not going to eat much there for obvious reasons, but it'd be a good way to change the conversation into something more casual.
[B] Go to the HotTub/Elemental HotSprings Together: With just me and him, I’d be a good way to get rid of the sweat from our exercises, as we’ve missed showering, and be an way to cool off after our conversation.
[C] Dream Room: I Don’t want too, as I feel like I’d only bring up bad memories, and be awkward if both of us go in, but maybe it would go fine, and being in an alternate reality, even for an bit beats the scary, endless fluorescent lights of the school, and I’d be an bit more of an safe space then through the hall.
[D] Magical Cewties Adoption Centre: This place has always intrigued me, we could possibly look for treasure, or sabotage it so Magicli doesn't use it in the future for whatever torture he wishes to cook up.
[E] The Stands: We could investigate and think of its future use, maybe get a heads up for what magicli is planning to use with those before we arrive.
[F] The Library: What Magicli is talking about with the “Truth of history”, is outlandish but could be true, we should also consult learning about magic, different magic types, spells, mp, or skills that could help us survive.

I think you're both wrong in certain ways. It is true that you are acting...very volatile, to say the least. Oh sure; its perfectly reasonable to be paranoid during such a scenario, but running around like a headless chicken and screaming at people is literally only going to get you more enemies.

On the other hand, Alex *has* been pretty damn inconsiderate of your own feelings. Even besides the chance of them murdering him or you, it's an asshole move to perv over other women when you're already in a comitted relationship.

My final conclusion is that you both need to make up, realize that having someone you can absolutely 100% trust is pretty much necessary to survive in this manner of game, and that you should try talking your issues more instead of playing this cold shoulder game.

In a more pragmatic mode of thought, if he truly is a bonehead who can't stop thinking with his second brain,it might just be a better option to deal with all his urges yourself, so to say. Think of it as less of a reward for bad behavior and more of an encouragement to stay good.

So, I'm gonna say...[B]

Eh.
You and Alex both made scathing mistakes, but that's not the point. You're both in the wrong environment. You are currently trapped in a prison whose faculty literally want to see some of you die. Your volatility has to be kept at maximum to, as you put it, stay alive. The problem is, that's what the faculty is gunning for: they want you to mess yourselves and each other up, so that the graduating survivors can be molded according to their will. I'd say that's the true purpose of this murderfest; I don't know much about magic but in most universes it tends to gravitate towards emotions and willpower. To create someone who is simultaneously hyper-emotional yet submissive to a specific authority, you'd have to truly screw them up - which is kind of what's happening here.

Your usual social circle, your close friends, social services, and the few rational politicians in government, all of that, is not here by design. There is nobody here you can fully trust, even us, and the only authority figures overtly approve of murder, meaning you're constantly in a state of mild to extreme paranoia because you have to be. These outbursts are going to become more common as the game continues. Just remember this: you and Alex are going to be at your worst in this school. What matters is what you'll become when you're out of it.

Seriously, Alex made a scary face but I think that's the stress.

Important note: we may be magical, but we suck at magic. Logic, technology, and psychology are our stronger suits. So if it looks like we're making crucial mistakes? Just remember we're people, not perfect.

Are you sure she'll even be able to remember anything in the state she is? Sweaty, dirty, emotionally stressed...not exactly the best state to be learning in, no? Usually that just leads to you not learning anything because you keep panicking in your thoughts.

I think the girl here needs some rest and relaxation. Especially since she has free time from those two she's so paranoid about.

I inquire the Agricultural capital governor who is in seemingly paranoia after hearing about the attacks in the main galaxy:
"So the capital has activated an energy source displacement field to supress its signals through spectrums and is currently playing dead apart from the few emergency power supplies that keep everyone alive?"

The governor replies
"That is so, we are much safer like this until core systems send a military power to protect our frontier galaxy, we don't even have handguns on the planet because of gun controls... This is the same demilitarized situation in many surrounding systems, and there are dozens fertile planets out here we simply cannot lose until reinforcements arrive. Core worlds replicate their food, but the frontier galaxies require good organic nutrition for growth and vitality."

I request the governor:
"Please governor, I know you might feel paranoid but you're in the presence of your Super Star Empress, unmask yourself."

"As you wish"

Something along these lines seems right. What he needs to learn is that the other timelines he's been visiting are just as valid, there isn't a 'right' one. You have to live with your decisions and improve your life from there, not obsess on how things could have been different.

C'mon, Dolly, we've got TONS of media that deals with weird time-jumping stuff. Several movies have done it already, so why not stick to the central theme?

It's real. Jason has died multiple times, but as one path closes down, a new one opens if he can just hold out long enough to see it to the end.

And isn't that the point? To keep going no matter what?

Because even if it feels like you're living a dozen different nightmares and you can't remember which of it was real, you'll always be the one sure constant in your world.

If anything, it feels almost moralistic; you've got one life, so you can either wait for things to change or you can make your best attempt at living it.
>>
No. 1100930 ID: b6ea64

No Dolly, the point here isn't "going back in time", it's learning from failures and moving forward! You are right though, establishing what his end goal is now rather than later on is going to make getting there a lot clearer.

The end goal for Jason should be pictured around him and his true love finally being able to stay together. A good way to start drawing in the audience more could be to start kicking up the action. Most of the bad things going on to Jason were focused on him directly. What if now things start to turn, it's bad things happening to the people around him and he has to use his knowledge to save them!

Jason can't win, every time he tries to recover, things change to make it worse. He's given up, and walks onto the highway, intending to finish what was started all those years ago. Hmmm...maybe without Curi to control the rhythm, it's gone quite chaotic, the music slimes just "randomly" barking out various notes - essentially that techno/edm/whatever it's called at raves that are one step from an orgy? - and a few chaos-infused Light and Dark slimes are there just enjoying the madness...and increasing their numbers. Maybe one or two trying to get at the princess. The party wants through, the revelers want the party, and they're not shy about it. The Chaos-touched slimes are getting a neat strobing effect going, making it harder to fight to balance out that they're physically not the toughest slimes. Maybe ten slimes tops, and they need to be either destroyed or "satisfied" in order to get through. Just enough to make it a good speed bump without making it an enormous ordeal. Sophie, of course, is keeping that door locked TIGHT until the slimes aren't a threat anymore.

You find yourself at the mouth of a dark cave. Whether you chose to come here or simply happened upon it, you’ve arrived nonetheless.

Perhaps you're a treasure hunter, or maybe you're on the hunt for a monster. Maybe you're just exploring the strange lands beyond your home, just to see what's out there. Your purpose is yours to determine.

The light is dim, probably late in the evening. You’re not that far in this small cave, but the darkness in front of you feels particularly deep and thick.
There are stalactites and stalagmites around you, some small to medium sized rocks and boulders. Patches of cave moss decorate the walls and ceiling. The air is cool and dry. It smells about how you would expect. There are a few bones visible near the edge of the cave. They look to have been gnawed on, not a scrap of flesh remaining. You can’t see or hear anything from this far away, but it feels like there’s something in there peering out at you.

(you can observe the world with your senses and interact with things. Pairing words like LOOK, TAKE, USE, GO, SPEAK, etc with details will be your actions. you know how this works~)

((this is also going to be a short one, probably. Good luck))

You can't slow down, or stop, or hesitate. The only thing keeping you alive is the next swing of that mace keeping the damned machine off balance.

That's ok, because you love thrashing it to bits, the only ounce of joy you can remember right now is how good it felt feeling that things ankle crunch.

I'm betting it'd feel amazing to see it's head crunch and turn into a pile of splintered circuitry. That would probably heal all the wounds and make things seem positively rosy again. Just don't slow down, for even a second.
